KEEP DANCING

OP posts:
CurlyhairedAssassin · 14/12/2024 23:10

BTW, I'm not sure the singer forgot the words on Like A Prayer. I think it was the dodgy lyrics "I'm down on my knees, I wanna take you there". I don't think it's about praying. 😆

Do we know what happened to Vito’s trousers? I’ve just watched the dance again, and he was clutching the waistband from quite early on in the dance, whenever he didn’t have to do something else with his arm.

Whatever it was seemed to happen during or shortly after his cartwheel, based on when he started putting his free hand on his waistband. Not that I’ve gone back and watched it twice or anything…

BogRollBOGOF · 15/12/2024 00:10

Just finished. Missed voting as I forgot it was during the show, so my set a timer for the shoe ending was futile 🤦‍♀️
I would have voted 4 for Chris and 2 for JB as I was out

So pleased Chris won. For can-do determination. For improvement. For sheer entertainment from a lovely personality. And what a wonderful first win for Dianne. For great teaching. No resorting to gimmicks. Not shying away and taking things easy. For teaching to where Chris was at.

It was a great final with a lot of variety. JB had a great night. It was Tasha's best night too- I loved her showdance. Maybe not the best night for Vito's wardrobe... 😂 I've enjoyed Sarah throughout and voted for her consistently, but there wasn't the additional layer of sparkle that even Tasha found.

Maybe the strong odds of Chris winning eased the pressure and made it a go out and enjoy it night. It was lovely to see all other finalists look genuinely delighted for Chris' win.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/12/2024 05:23

If he'd been terrible I doubt he would have got very far. It was the right result as he's the only one of the finalists who didn't have any dance training at all.

I've just been musing this and I think you're right. If he'd been another Nick or Paul, he'd have gone. He's won because he absolutely can dance, and has overcome his blindness to achieve this. Both he and Dianne are exceptional.

OlympicWomen · 15/12/2024 06:02

At the end there was a moment when he was supposed to lift the Glitterball Trophy and of course he didn't know where it was. He's come across as so capable.
All of the contestants have been great this year, and all the finalists put on enjoyable performances. They all seemed genuinely delighted for Chris.
I think Strictly has been rescued.

A good summary. There was no hiding behind props, standing in hold when Dianne danced around her, etc. He actually danced, and danced well. I imagine everyone , including him, expected him to go out in the early stages, maybe week three or four but he proved to be a worthy finalist.

Shout out to Tasha for her show dance, the best in my opinion for a long time. Loved it.

Clawdy · 15/12/2024 08:14

Great result, but still wish it had been JB.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/12/2024 08:22

JB was the one I rooted for after Chris. Sarah and Tasha both left me cold.

peppeRomia · 15/12/2024 08:23

StarDolphins · 14/12/2024 21:27

I wish they’d said who came 2nd,3rd etc.

I'm glad they don't. There's no need.

buttonousmaximous · 15/12/2024 09:07

Happy with the results if it was ability Tasha should have won but I would say Chris is probably most improved.

A good final I thought.

HelenWheels · 15/12/2024 09:18

searching wiki for Dianne it puts her as coming 2nd with Bobby Brazier
so perhaps they will say the 2nd,3rd,4th positions?

ChessieFL · 15/12/2024 09:23

And if you look up Nikita it also puts him as coming 2nd with Layton. All the runner up finalists are treated as coming 2nd because they really don’t reveal the actual voting pattern.

HelenWheels · 15/12/2024 09:24

thanks @ChessieFL

SoupDragon · 15/12/2024 10:22

Didn't Ellie do a similar style of show dance to Tasha last year?

dollybird · 15/12/2024 10:26

I was watching behind and missed the entire first final thread! So happy that Chris won, although I voted for JB. That was an emotional couple of hours.

JB was my favourite judges choice, Tasha/JB favourite show dance, and Chris favourite couples choice (not CC). Sarah was fairly forgettable last night, apart from Vito's rubbish cartwheel and trousers malfunction.

They all looked so happy that Chris won 💕

hooplahoop · 15/12/2024 10:33

Do we know why Tash looked upset about her amazing show dance?

lightsandtunnels · 15/12/2024 10:46

I am so over the whole 'but Chris wasn't the best dancer, so shouldn't have won' narrative this morning.
His dances made you feel. You felt them, his energy, spirit and bloody effort it must have taken to achieve what he has done. But actually he is a great dancer and Dianne is also fabulous to watch.
It's like saying that the best song ever can't be by Coldplay because Chris Martin isn't the 'best singer' ever. It's because he makes you feel. His lyrics, his aura, his performance.

Should the best technical singers always be number one - are they always the top selling artists?
No. Because we love the things that make us feel something. They are our favourites.

Now that's off my chest, I can move on with my day!

Until next September where it will happen all over again of course ...

SoupDragon · 15/12/2024 11:20

Yeah, blindfold the other dancers and see how good they are in comparison!

Would he have won if he hadn't been blind? No. However, what he achieved was exceptional - far in excess of what the others did. He deserved to win.

Wasn't she wearing some weird tin foil outfit and had amazing lifts, one of which nearly went spectacularly wrong? You might be thinking of her American Smooth.

Fucking exactly. His achievement in getting to the level he did is FAR greater than the achievement of people who have both danced before AND CAN SEE.

If you can't watch the dance before you learn it; can't watch your performance to see your errors; and can't watch your teacher to see what to do, your disadvantage is HUGE.

Maybe. I remember her doing a "Fred and ginger" routine in the final but not which of the 3 dances it was allocated to!

Alright and it’s lovely if that was the feeling that you got watching Chris, and he was a worthy winner. Of course he was. All of them were. But your comment is pretty unnecessarily arsey, what if Chris didnt make us feel stuff? What if we found him a bit samey, week after week? I thought what he was doing was absolutely spectacular but I didn’t get that ‘feeling’ that you’re talking about.

JB made me feel stuff. I thought it was so joyous to watch him dance every single week and that’s why I voted for him and wanted him to win over Chris. I also can’t bear all the mawkishness (see Pete and the barefoot dead nan stuff) so actually all the sobbing at the end of Chris’s last dance only made me feel annoyed tbh. And that’s ok. It’s a dance show, not the Nobel peace prize. It’s really not that deep!

Someone up thread said that Chris would not have won if he wasn’t blind.

How do you know that? He’s done phenomenally well blind, but with sight I bet he’d nail so much more technique, posture etc. He’s also clearly got rhythm, very likeable and funny. He’s no duffer even blind, and his personality alone would carry him far. Another Bill Bailey, perhaps.

I agree with the Bill Bailey comparison.
