KEEP DANCING

Someone up thread said that Chris would not have won if he wasn’t blind.

How do you know that? He’s done phenomenally well blind, but with sight I bet he’d nail so much more technique, posture etc. He’s also clearly got rhythm, very likeable and funny. He’s no duffer even blind, and his personality alone would carry him far. Another Bill Bailey, perhaps.

Because he was not a good enough dancer. You can't speculate on how he would have been if he could see, it's impossible to know. My comment was based purely on the dancing as shown.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/12/2024 13:31

Fucking exactly. His achievement in getting to the level he did is FAR greater than the achievement of people who have both danced before AND CAN SEE.

Precisely @NoWordForFluffy

Tasha's Show Dance was Fab U Lous!!
There should be decree going forwards that all Show Dances should ooze class, with proper attire and definitely no wafty matching PJs or gussets a go-go outfits allowed!

Edited

But you said he would NOT have won, surely that’s speculation? That he would have danced exactly the same, if he could see? That’s why I said “how do you know that?”

Anyhow, not worth a tiff on here is it - it was a lovely, well deserved win and should only be celebrated in my opinion.

Alright and it’s lovely if that was the feeling that you got watching Chris, and he was a worthy winner. Of course he was. All of them were. But your comment is pretty unnecessarily arsey, what if Chris didnt make us feel stuff? What if we found him a bit samey, week after week? I thought what he was doing was absolutely spectacular but I didn’t get that ‘feeling’ that you’re talking about.

JB made me feel stuff. I thought it was so joyous to watch him dance every single week and that’s why I voted for him and wanted him to win over Chris. I also can’t bear all the mawkishness (see Pete and the barefoot dead nan stuff) so actually all the sobbing at the end of Chris’s last dance only made me feel annoyed tbh. And that’s ok. It’s a dance show, not the Nobel peace prize. It’s really not that deep!

This is exactly my point! I also felt JB. He was amazing and Lauren is fabulous too.
It is all about who you 'feel' and not about the exact science of dance which is what so many people are going on about.

Oh and I'm allowed to be arsey that's ok too!

I thought Chris was amazing but almost all of his dances bored me whereas I loved just about all of JB's dances and most of Sarah's.

I cry at almost everything (including tv ads) but did not cry last night and all that sobbing I found pathetic. I absolutely hate You'll never walk Alone so that didn't help.

Motsi and Shirley crying were bad enough but Craig with that awful awful poem!

Figgygal · 15/12/2024 14:57

In case anyone didn't get everyone was so excited at JB saying merry Christmas
Not sure if it's been explained already

The poem was bad. It went on and on. Bloody hell.

I did like the YNWA dance tbh. I thought he did really well. He did well with the first dance too (although didn’t really like the lights out bit as it was done better by Rose and Gio when they turned the music off - it doesn’t really have the same impact without the lights on!) - they were very in time which must have been bloody difficult. Plus it was fun! His second dance was just…terrible. He looked like he was going to pass out. Across him and Aljaz huffing and puffing all night, it was like a dance off for the very unfit.

Motsi didn’t even cry at YNWA, even though she said she did! It felt like they were trying to make me feel which I did not enjoy - I mostly just end up feeling annoyed. JB was just consistently cheerful. Sarah and Vito seemed like they got on well (plus he is fiiiiiine) and although it’s a shame because Tasha is probably a nice person, she was the ‘proper’ ringer of the series. I just can’t warm to anyone who’s been on LI either, because I think it’s tosh.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 15/12/2024 15:32

all that sobbing I found pathetic.

That's not very nice. I cried a lot last night and I'm not ashamed of it. Chris's achievement was colossal and the positive representation is huge for people with disabilities

Same here. I thought it was very moving.

Same here. I thought it was very moving.

I did too!

He's clearly surpassed what he ever thought was possible, and his own amazement is just so touching, alongside his achievement.

Maybe take a leaf out of the books of the pro judges who all find his achievement both phenomenal and moving. The fact that he's astounded them shows how amazing his achievement is.

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 15/12/2024 15:45

I might be on my own here, but I liked the poem. I thought it was a lovely thing for Craig to do.
I have absolutely loved this series of Strictly. I've had a rubbish year, with losses and other miseries to deal with, and Strictly has really cheered me up every Saturday. I have loved the banter between the contestants this year, and watching Chris and Dianne has been amazing. I was moved to tears yesterday. The positive message Chris sent out last night was brilliant. I don't often comment on these Strictly threads, but I read and enjoy them all - thank you.

MrsPeterHarris · 15/12/2024 16:20

I completely agree @Thmssngvwlsrnd (& hope next year is a better one for you)

No speculation because it was based on the dancing as shown, which is all we can do. 🙄

I did find his achievement amazing and I am pleased for him that he won even though I wanted Sarah or JB to win.

I did not like the sobbing though. The YNWA dance I didn't like the first time (as I said I hate the song with a passion) and didn't like it any more last night. I don't want sad or moving dances and songs in a light entertainment show thank you.

I am sure it came as no surprise to almost anyone that Chris won. He has been favourite for weeks and weeks and, according to polls on here, facebook, twitter, digital spy etc, has been receiving a very high proportion of the votes. Unless none of the other contestants, celebs and their families and friends ever read a paper or look at social media I am sure they all expected him to win

but i didnt follow the polls regarding Chris.
until a couple of weeks ago when I read it in the telegraph.
i never imagined before then that he would win

Nor me, in fact I didn't think it would happen before that final performance.

No.

He’s got his own (comedy) tour in the New Year.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 15/12/2024 17:27

I don't think I'll articulate this very well, but although we know Chris is blind, the fact that we saw him each week already there on the dance floor, in position, doing his dance, made it almost like you could 'forget' he couldn't see. We never saw him navigating the corridors, eating his lunch, travelling around, all the things where his blindness would be much more obvious. It hit home when he was reaching out for the glitterball - and when Craig commented on how visiting him in the practice room made him really appreciate just what he was achieving. All the people on social media going on about him not being a deserving winner might think again if they actually saw what it takes for him just to navigate day to day life.

Huonneyywisshful · 15/12/2024 19:14

Right result, I’m very happy that Chris won and very happy for the brilliant Diane.

lightsandtunnels · 15/12/2024 10:46

I am so over the whole 'but Chris wasn't the best dancer, so shouldn't have won' narrative this morning.
His dances made you feel. You felt them, his energy, spirit and bloody effort it must have taken to achieve what he has done. But actually he is a great dancer and Dianne is also fabulous to watch.
It's like saying that the best song ever can't be by Coldplay because Chris Martin isn't the 'best singer' ever. It's because he makes you feel. His lyrics, his aura, his performance.

Should the best technical singers always be number one - are they always the top selling artists?
No. Because we love the things that make us feel something. They are our favourites.

Now that's off my chest, I can move on with my day!

Until next September where it will happen all over again of course ...

Yes, Chris Martin makes me feel like changing the radio station.

The word on the street (ok, the Daily Fail) is that Vito and Jowita are an item. Sorry, ladies!
