M.R. James.

It's a leftfield choice but I'm all for it. Food will be described as eerily good or having a haunting essence, Egon Ronay will join the critics' round via a ouija board, and it will transpire that the eventual winner died in an incident involving a chestnut brazier in 1857 and everyone who ate his chocolate fondant is cursed to die at the hands of faulty kitchen equipment before the next asparagus season.

That's made my Sunday @EsmaCannonball 🤣🤣🤣

Lots of votes on another thread for Si King as the next presenter which is a good shout. I'd love Fred Sirieux but I can't see him wanting it and much as I'd love to see Jay, Jimi or Grace presenting MC I'm not sure whether they would see it as an attractive option either.

Maybe a past contestant - someone like Dean 'Digger' Edwards?

Sunbird24 · 02/12/2024 12:48

Apparently some people are calling for BBC to stop showing MasterChef - is it bad that I actually want to see the rest of the series and think it would be unfair for the competing chefs if they do that? Surely they could edit out the Speaking Cock and his inane feedback on the dishes instead?

TheDogsMother · 02/12/2024 13:05

Eeek they are talking about pulling tonight's episode. Oh no Gaston !

It's only one MP (Rupa Huq) from the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee which has been singularly useless at holding both Secretaries of State and the BBC to account for many years. I'm one of many women who have written to its chair, Carline Dinenage (Con), without a response, about the abysmal BBC complaints process.

Meanwhile Rupa Huq thinks that screenings might be 'triggering'. Presumably she's unaware the episodes are already available. And that 'off' buttons exist.

Lisa Nandy, bewilderingly the current secretary of state for anything for culture, media and sport, has 'held talks' with the BBC. Ooh, get her.

ilovesooty · 02/12/2024 13:58

I would have thought it would be in Lisa Nandy's remit to discuss this with the BBC. Plenty of people would be criticising her for not going her job if she didn't.

Rupa Huq is I'm sure aware that the episodes are available. And no - I think they shouldn't be cancelled.

Words · 02/12/2024 14:00

I'd be very annoyed if the rest of the series is pulled. So unfair on the contestants. And on its core audience of middle aged middle class.......

They just need to say this episode was filmed before the recent allegations involving WalllAce and leave it at that.

I have to say the female comedian was very wet on Today though, and as far as it being 'triggering'... oh dear oh dear.

Nothing to do with MC or the baldy pervert, but I know how much you all love a forager

I did a quick Google when Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall (talking about Gregg on the news) said he had a chef on the show this year and it turns out the farm Chiara works on is actually the River Cottage estate. Yep, that figures.

As for the idea of the show being taken off air in case the audience is triggered by Gregg being a knob; surely the average MasterChef viewer is like the battle-scarred shock troop commando of Gregg Wallace knobbery by now?

(Not the Gregg style of commando.)

Damn straight!! We’ve had years of it. We are immune and impervious to his epic level of wank spannery

(🤢)

I like to think any Chuffian faced with Greggg in real life would respond with nothing more than a witheringly raised eyebrow and look of utter disdain.

I agree. But if you are a young hopeful chef then you might not feel you can do this.

As has been said already, it is middle aged, middle class women who can stand up to the likes of him.

PotterHead1985 · 02/12/2024 20:58

I ain't middle class and I would have told him to get to feck!

I'm assuming since there is nowt to the contrary we are still all systems go for 9 bells

ilovesooty · 02/12/2024 20:59

Off we go in a minute!

TheDogsMother · 02/12/2024 21:00

Evening Chuffs. Woman of a certain age checking in.

fourquenelles · 02/12/2024 21:01

Evening all. I wonder if they have been busy with the scissors all day and have trimmed some unwanted fat from the programme.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 02/12/2024 21:02

PotterHead1985 · 02/12/2024 21:02

I’m hoping by the final he’ll have his apron on his head and will be wearing only a string of onions

GrouchyKiwi · 02/12/2024 21:03

This had better be Michael's last hurrah.

Old enough that they won’t put up with his shit.

I’m about 20 minutes ahead here. I couldn’t be arsed to wait. Lots a Greggg still.
