Bake Off 24 Part Two: a meltingly light and fluffy thread taking us all the way to the final.

The last thread filled up fast in a heated debate about Alison's acrobatic antics. Join us here for the last two episodes.

Whose patisserie will carry them through the semi final and who will experience the frustration of missing out on the final 3? Will anyone fall off a stool, workbench or just trip over their own feet? Will the finalists surpass their previous efforts or will the last showstopper be a series of damp squibs? Not long to find out.

Gill was robbed. Dylan did badly in the signature and didn't complete the showstopper brief of 12 entremes. I think they just wanted him in the final.

This!

They seem to favour him.

Webbb · 19/11/2024 21:23

Bye, Gill. You're a true joy.

CrushingOnRubies · 19/11/2024 21:23

I'm gutted that Gill went. Especially as it was such a subjective reason based on taste.

Pah! Georgie's histrionics piss me off.

She did at least laugh at herself being ridiculous with the "I'm just going to stand here". I don't mind someone that knows they've been daft.

I wasn't an Alison Hammond fan and found her over the top on lots of things but I think she's been excellent on this series. A nice mix of a bit of a laugh but supportive so I'll have to eat my words on my criticism when she was chosen.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 19/11/2024 21:28

Georgie annoyed me tonight. Sad to see Gill go but loved that she took a bowl😂.

I like Dylan and Christiaan so pleased they got through.

cuddlebear · 19/11/2024 21:37

I would have preferred it if Gill stayed and Georgie left.

KohlaParasaurus · 19/11/2024 21:45

Surprised Gill went. It was interesting to pop on here after the event and see that you were all calling it all the way through.

Xmasmusings · 19/11/2024 22:16

I reckon Dylan will be the overall winner too. I'm sorry to see Gill go but she wasn't as ambitious as the others. Very often, though, I would have preferred to eat her dish than the ones that were more like edible art.

Fizbosshoes · 19/11/2024 22:40

Agree with @Bitofashithouse Alison looked amazing tonight.
I'm sad that Gill went, all the showstoppers were amazing but I think she has generally done more safe designs or less adventurous....but always done them really really well. Sometimes the more ambitious ones have been disastrous.

I’m in two minds - I like food that tastes good and prefer substance over style. However, this is Bake Off and contestants can’t rely on just good tasting bakes. They need to stand out in flavour and artistry.

Artistry will not trump flavour, as Sumaya found out but the contestant that can deliver both, fairly consistently, is likely to win.

They seem to favour him.

He’s been consistently very inventive and his favours have been unusual and creative.

I think if they seem to favour someone it's usually because they are consistently good.

Gill was an amazing contestant but always stayed on the safe side, and for the last few weeks she had messed up the first two challenges and pulled herself through with her showstopper. Her strawberries were smaller and less complex than the other 3 entremets.

I loved her as a contestant and her exit must have been the best ever - snaffling the lilac bowl was brilliant.

I've warmed to Dylan over the series. He's shown real determination and a little bit of vulnerability. Georgie is obviously exhausted and not coping with the stress, though she's a great baker. I thought Christian was very middle of the pack at first, but he is calm, creative and has toned down the jarring flavours, so he's earned his place.

Team Dylan here now, I think he's earned it.

Great semi final, and I think the right 3 are in the final. Dylan for me, though it;ll depend on what happens on the night.

Gill was just lovely - I want a T shirt now that says "Northern portions!", and I'd love to see her have a spot on daytime telly like Morning Live.

LilacLilyBird · 20/11/2024 09:14

Gill really grew on me over the series

But yes the best 3 got through imho on this occasion

I love them all. They're all being edited for us viewers so we never get the whole picture

Great contestants this year so it's been an excellent series to watch

LilacLilyBird · 20/11/2024 09:15

The standout contestant for me was Nellie

I'd love to see more of her on TV she's fabulous

LilacLilyBird · 20/11/2024 09:16

Ha yes getting the lilac bowl was touch

FizzingAda · 20/11/2024 09:16

I felt really sorry for Georgie. Tired and stressed, in front of all the crew and cameras, pestered by idiot Noel, her mind just went blank and the instructions may have been in Swahili - I feel, like that when my boiler goes wrong.
Gill was lovely, her cheeriness will be missed. How nice to see someone really happy as they leave, and not weeping. Best of luck Gill.

LilacLilyBird · 20/11/2024 09:16

deeahgwitch · 20/11/2024 10:16

I thought it was odd that none of the other contestants gave Georgie a bit of a dig out.
They usually do.

I know the feeling she got. She was so stressed she wanted to dig her heels in and make the wrong decision, sabotaging any chance she had.
Glad she prevailed.

Fizbosshoes · 20/11/2024 10:34

One thing that I've just realised that this series has been quite light on "nan-shoutouts" . Andy mentioned his nan and got voted off that week so maybe that was a warning signal...?

In previous series, some contestants have managed to mention their nan virtually every week!

hopeishere · 20/11/2024 10:51

I was sad to see Gill go but I think it was too safe. The others entremets were amazing looking. Hers was very safe. It was lovely to see her hug the cameraman. They must get close to them throughout the show.

She also had a meltdown earlier in the show and wanted to walk out because her necklace broke. One of the team had to go and buy her another chain . So I think they were probably a bit fed up of the histrionics by that point and wanted to focus on doing well themselves.

RonSwansonsChair · 20/11/2024 11:07

Did they show that @TheMoonismadeofcheese ? I don't remember that happening 🤔

TheMoonismadeofcheese · 20/11/2024 11:27

No I read about it online when i was researching the necklace she wears.

That's a bit harsh, she said it broke and they went and bought her a new chain. The meltdown was because she thought she had lost the pieces which were a hand and foot print of her still born daughter not because the chain had broken.

Context is everything.

They aren't allowed to confer in the technical so that's probably why they didn't go and comfort her.
