Unusual for ch 5 to do a police drama

As a black woman in the police force, she frequently faces underestimation and disregard from her male peers, yet she shines as a "first-class murder detective, with a determination for justice and a deep well of compassion for those who need it".

Mirroring the structure of popular shows like Midsomer Murders, each instalment of Ellis will span two hours. Sharon D Clarke, whose credits include Showtrial, Lost Boys and Fairies, and Rocketman, takes on the lead role.

The series will follow titular character DCI Ellis, who is sent into various police stations to help solve their failing investigations.

Andrew Gower, recognised for his performances in The Winter King, Carnival Row, and Outlander, portrays DS Harper, Ellis's trusted colleague.

In every episode, the duo is tasked with integrating themselves into a new police department, challenging Ellis to gain the trust of the local team.

It'll be no easy feat for the seasoned copper, as she'll have to win over new teams and local detectives who don't appreciate her involvement.

I didn’t bother with season 2 of DI Ray as felt it was all a bit far fetched but Ellis looks more promising.

I was so confused when you said Casualty and I didn't remember her so I looked it up and it says she was in Holby City!

The actress in the blurb says she's never seen a black dark skinned female in a title role in a cop show ever.

But surely Chadder Vale had a female black person in as the main title role?

That was good , I stuck the two hours because of it and it was wrapped up . So I guess each one is going to be a murder solved in the one programme , like Vera .

I've not really warmed to Ellis yet , she seems cold . I reckon Harper will bring out another side to her though , they'll make good partners , the boss and her sidekick.

Just watched this and liked it. Reminded me of Vera in that its one murder and 2 hours long. It also throws in multiple suspects as Vera does, all which then get eliminated as they reveal their own secrets until it all comes together and we find out 'whodunnit'. I liked Ellis. I didn't find her cold, I thought she was actually quite compassionate and I did like the way she put the men in their place. I think her DI will bring out a softer side to her, as PP said.

As long as the stories remain strong and interesting this could be a keeper. Especially with Vera finishing soon! 😭
