ELLIS - thur 8pm ch 5 - TV PACE. NO SPOILERS

Unusual for ch 5 to do a police drama

Their usual dramas are thriller /romance /murder etx

3 part drama - 2hrs each Episode

As a black woman in the police force, she frequently faces underestimation and disregard from her male peers, yet she shines as a "first-class murder detective, with a determination for justice and a deep well of compassion for those who need it".

Mirroring the structure of popular shows like Midsomer Murders, each instalment of Ellis will span two hours. Sharon D Clarke, whose credits include Showtrial, Lost Boys and Fairies, and Rocketman, takes on the lead role.

The series will follow titular character DCI Ellis, who is sent into various police stations to help solve their failing investigations.

Andrew Gower, recognised for his performances in The Winter King, Carnival Row, and Outlander, portrays DS Harper, Ellis's trusted colleague.

In every episode, the duo is tasked with integrating themselves into a new police department, challenging Ellis to gain the trust of the local team.

It'll be no easy feat for the seasoned copper, as she'll have to win over new teams and local detectives who don't appreciate her involvement.

Channel 5 ought to show more police dramas , this was much better than the flimsy dramas they normally have on .

Sorry to see there are only three in the series , hopefully they'll make another .

I've watched all of Ellis now. I like how multi faceted she is, but how she knows when to be quiet and still, it's quite a powerful thing in the role of a police officer.

I also liked how she faced off the casual racism and embedded misogyny that she encountered. The two hour feature film style suited me too, for the story to develop and be resolved in one episode that I could focus on right to its conclusion.

The phone charger situation bugged me though. I kept shouting at the screen to just buy a bloody new one, which is a bit rich because a couple of mine are failing just at the same point, it's a real failing with them.

Oh I didn't realise the series was over already! I was enjoying that!

Great actor. Loving all these strong women at the moment. Love that we're just getting a teeny bit of her personal life and it ended on a happy note.

I've given up on watching second episode.
Not sure I got all of what was going on.
And don't particularly like Ellis
Neither is it capturing me at all
A bit unimpressed

I watched them all but got confused and a little lost

Couldn't find recaps either

I just don't think any of the main characters have any charisma or give me much reason to keep watching really

Disappointing to me

Just saw on Ch 5 that a new series (4 episodes ) is starting on Tues 10 March . Might interest those that enjoyed the first series with Sharon D Clarke .
Great detective series . I think it is 2 long episodes for each case

I thought it was really good , had 2 great leads . Loved Sharon D Clarke in this role . Liked how they swooped in to solve a major crime and faced the usual tensions from the existing staff on site .
There was the usual cliche that the lead detective whilst successful in her career had a less successful home life . I think she was always anxiously checking her mobile phone and waiting for her daughter to phone.
