You must sing it along to the tune or it won't work.

Abusers need to be able to summon up something likeable about themselves to find and keep their victims. I hope it is just pillows Alex is punching to vent his anger at those who can see him.

kenyaswhiterefrigerator · 25/10/2024 17:39

I hope Holly went away and realised how much of her personality she's had to compromise to appease him.

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 25/10/2024 17:41

I've decided I'm going to watch all three Terrifier movies this weekend to make it feel like MAFS is still on. Just slightly worried that the characters in Terrifier 1, 2 and 3 will be better dressed, more likeable and less violently aggressive than the couples on MAFS.

🤣 I loved Terrifier 2. It has an atmospheric 80s vibe which I really enjoyed.

It's ridiculously gory but the CGI / prosthetics are laughable so it's less traumatic to watch what happens

You will laugh if you can keep your eyes on the screen when the protagonists Art the Clown does his work! It is quite stomach churning though.

It's a better laugh than MAFS for sure anyway 😁

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 25/10/2024 18:03

@Tittat50 I'm off to get the popcorn ready - a good slasher horror can't possibly be as much of a blood bath as a MAFS dinner party! It's likely to be more cerebral too...

Maybe I’m reading it wrong, but it seems like a lot of those who really don’t like Alex as those have been in abusive relationships. I said I liked him because there’s something very cute and attractive and insightful about him certainly much more than most of the other men on there.

Doubleraspberry · 25/10/2024 18:33

I get zero cute from Alex. I’ve never been in an abusive relationship thankfully but I’ve seen nothing in him but control, aggression and manipulation.

Jesus Christ!
Have I entered another dimension?
Got to be his Mother writing this utter shite.

Doubleraspberry · 25/10/2024 18:35

@Todaywasbetter also doesn’t it strike you as meaningful that people with experience of abuse are the ones alarmed by watching him? What does that suggest to you?

Todaywasbetter · 25/10/2024 18:39

Yeah, that’s a good point. It must be really hard to trust anyone again.

Donttellempike · 25/10/2024 18:46

Wow. Are you trying to be offensive Todaywasbetter. Or just succeeding?

People who have survived abuse, and are seeing all the moves being played on their screen in the name of entertainment have flawed judgement?

Buttercup33 · 25/10/2024 18:51

Having been in a very long term abusive relationship and then done a lot of work with experts to understand why and the psychology of abusers, I can spot one a mile off. MAFS seems (predictably) to attract them. Alex is absolutely imo an abuser and Holly is a strong woman to recognise that in the end. Insidious and dangerous.

murasaki · 25/10/2024 18:52

Well I am lucky enough not to have been in an abusive relationship, and I see him.

Cute he is not.

Doubleraspberry · 25/10/2024 18:54

DH, who has been in an emotionally abusive relationship and has found some of this series very hard to watch, said immediately last night ‘he’s only apologising to the others to annoy Sasha’. Just before the so-called experts praised Alex for his maturity. Spot the difference.

You need to learn more about abuse and coercive control as it sounds like you may be very vulnerable to it if you do not.

Tittat50 · 25/10/2024 19:18

I personally haven't been in an abusive romantic relationship. I unfortunately have sociopath/ narc relatives and grew up in a coercive family. Years and years of counselling required to help see it.

Many people would never believe me if I said do you know x,y,z is actually like this? No, you're just being a bit sensitive etc etc would be the reply. And you believe it.

There is a formula to the behaviour, it's very weird. But Alex does all the things that they do, including being incredibly likeable in moments. It's disturbing to see him get away with it as the getting away with it is what makes it so psychologically torturous for victims.

It's likely he will put some poor lady in therapy in his lifetime if he hasn't already. I hope he never has children.

They also make it their mission to destroy anyone who sees through them and calls them out. Sasha has been immature but he will never forgive someone like her because she sees him.

Tittat50 · 25/10/2024 19:22

@Todaywasbetter I totally get that. He has an almost boy like smile and a vulnerability when everyone seems to gang up on him.I felt that even though I see him.

It is why these people are so terrifying. Behind doors he will psychologically destroy women by all sorts of means such as gaslighting and making them question their reality. He will never take responsibility. Where he did, that was just for the cameras.

wrongthinker · 25/10/2024 19:24

Alex is only apologising to others in order to isolate Sacha.

The fact that the so-called experts can't identify what is clearly aggressive, abusive, misogynist behaviour when it's right in front of them is just disgusting. The whole thing is horrible.

@Nextdoor55 have you seen all the episodes and interactions involving Alex because it's telling if you watch them all. There's a collective pattern of behaviour. He scares Holly. She's a fishwife, she's unpleasant and like a bully with other women. But with Alex, she's so unsure of what acceptable behaviour is, she can't see it in its entirety. She'll keep coming back until it sinks in. Terrible self esteem.

I've seen every episode, I think Alex is a bit dim isn't he? Plays games but really isn't clever enough to be too manipulative I don't think. I think Hollie is worried about how she's coming over as she's being filmed surely? She is deeply insecure I agree though. Those lips 👄 😂

I think you have to be careful about characterising people as abusive, I mean the behaviour of some of the girls has been so appalling & aggressive. What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, I personally was sickened by the way Sasha treated him, she's absolutely toxic as is Pol pot

menopausalfart · 25/10/2024 19:43

I imagine when images of fishlips surround you daily, and many of your friends have also injected pollyfiller, they become the norm. I suppose it was the same for me in the 80s when everyone had mahoosive hair and thought we looked the shit instead of just shit.

Nextdoor55 · 25/10/2024 19:45

Nathan though, he's so cute, I just want to take him home in my pocket. There's something really innocent about him I think
