Are there any other Jilly Cooper fans out there? I feel ridiculously excited about Rivals coming out.

Can't wait! Placemaking.
Tonight I might cut my fringe with some scissors, forgetting I've used them to remove the rind from the bacon, a la Lizzie Vereker.

I'd recommend listening to this weeks 'The Rest Is Entertainment' podcast with Richard Osman and Marina Hyde who were absolutely raving about it

They are both avid JC readers and Marina has some insight into the writing process and what else might be coming down the line from her books.

They reckoned it could be the best tv show ever made so I have high hopes!

Off to listen. Love this podcast (the disgust about Boris!! Loved it! And Pip Schofield!)

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 16/10/2024 20:14

I’ve never read any of JC’s books. But today I was listening to Richard Osman & Marina Hyde talk about this adaptation on their podcast (The Rest Is Entertainment) and it sounded so great, I’m about to read Rivals and then I’ll watch.

in case anyone else is interested: podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-rest-is-entertainment/id1718287198?i=1000673090118

Ahaha, crossed posts

NeighbourHitMyCar · 16/10/2024 20:25

@FanDann I adored Marina's take on Philip Schofield's show 'a voyage to the limits of self pity'. Spot on!

She has an acid tongue but uses it wisely!

If there is any hot water left, I suppose ai could wash my hair

You can wash your hair if your nails are dirty and that's the only way to clean them.

If you don;t have a dress then wear your man's striped shirt tied at the waist with his old school tie .

There was a recent interview with Jilly on the beeb. If anyone hasn’t seen it it should be on the iplayer.

Reminded me of growing up reading her Emily, Octavia, Prudence, etc., books. I didn’t realise that they were all pictures of Jilly on the covers! She looks ravishing.

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 16/10/2024 20:31

I confirm that at the appointed time I shall be drifting into the into the sitting room in an air force blue cardigan matching my eyes (swiped from my nearest female relative), reeking of Fracas and swigging icy Krug from the bottle

ConstantlyFuriosa · 16/10/2024 20:32

I don’t mind the casting of Rupert. I think Alex Hassell has a wonderfully cruel look and I’ve always found him rather handsome.

I agree.

I cannot wait.

Pretty much exactly like this

OMG yes! Lord Flashheart.

CallMeMousie · 16/10/2024 20:35

Signing in! Super excited for this Friday. Not convinced on RCB either but the jollity and humour seem firmly in place. LOVING the idea of Jilly-themed snacks, i often think a Jilly cookbook of beef daube, kedgeree, meringue castles and gulls eggs with celery salt would be fabulous!

Seagall · 16/10/2024 20:38

At the appointed time I will be drifting in from the garden, rather red faced, with dirt under my fingernails, followed by three dogs, looking not in the least fashionable, but kind and warm. If you like, I can introduce you to my very rich but troubled friend, he looks like a red setter but he's terribly sexy.

Patienceinshortsupply · 16/10/2024 20:38

I'd forgotten how much I loved Jilly Cooper books and I'm sad that I haven't been able to read her latest stuff - too many characters and jumpy writing. Rivals has to be my favourite book of all time, so I am not sure about watching this.... it'll be utterly brilliant or utterly awful.

TheSilentSister · 16/10/2024 20:40

Super super excited. Read all the books. Disappointed at the choice of RCB. Need a tall lean blonde chiselled chap really. And Taggy, I always imagined her tall, willowy and earthy blonde. But, I guess with costume, wigs etc all will be good. I'm in for the Ride!

Seagall · 16/10/2024 20:40

RupertCampbellsBack · 16/10/2024 19:47

I am sure the 'styling' became more dramatic as the books went on. If Jilly Cooper had written during the TOWIE era, Sharon would have had a bejazzle.

I only ever remember bushes being trimmed.

TheOnlyAletheia · 16/10/2024 20:45

Tony Baddingham was thick set and a bit swarthy. DT is bit too refined.

Shinyandnew1 · 16/10/2024 20:49

Can’t wait for this! I hope Janey is in it-she was one of my faves!

Taggie is tall and willowy - but with clouds of black hair, no?

Seagall · 16/10/2024 20:53

Yes Taggy has clouds of dark hair. She's not as young in the show.

bryceQ · 16/10/2024 20:53

I'm so surprised at the RCB casting.... I think he only works as a character because he is so insanely handsome and charming...... As he's a right bastard! But then I can't imagine they will cock it up so badly.....

I think I always liked the orchestra one and the film one was pretty brilliant.

1clavdivs · 16/10/2024 20:54

I was excited enough about all this to visit the Cotswolds last week purely so that I could pretend I was in Penscombe. Only mildly disappointed to not have seen any ravishing polo players leading ponies four abreast along Painswick high street, or to have not been offered a glass of Krug from a heavenly man going pulling up outside the Bar Sinister in his Ferrari even though I'd drenched myself in Diorissimo and splurged on a new geown.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 16/10/2024 20:54

General placemark. I'm starting Rivals (the book) tonight FOR THE FIRST TIME in preparation for the show.

little pies full of smoked salmon and scrambled egg
coronation chicken
pureed parsnips with curry powder
one of "Brickies Teas" ( kitty who fell in love with Lysander and ran away on The Prince of Darkness -huge horse- to be with him) the sandwiches were more filling than bread

Of course if you're a true JC Heroine you "forget to eat" so everyone will ask if you're on the Scarsdale Diet

TheOnlyAletheia · 16/10/2024 20:56

Geown 😂 Mousie
