I've just caught the end of an interview with Amanda on Newsnight - really feel for her. I know the threats have been mentioned on here before but shocking to hear about them directly from her. So very sad that people respond this way.

I hadn’t previously heard the description of Giovanni outlining his erection in his trousers when she got a dance move right and telling her she had made that happen.

Appalling behaviour.

Eww!
Envy>not envy
God, that reminds me of two crap boyfriends I had when younger
Where did you read that or is that your interpretation of the "I want to fuck you" praise?

Edited

Amanda said it very clearly and unambiguously in the interview.

ellebelli · 03/10/2024 09:56

So joe varney went about getting erections when dance partners did a move well!
Revolting!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/10/2024 11:09

I have known it happen very occasionally, but it's usually embarrassing for all concerned and you have a break and both pretend nothing happened!

Really grim to draw attention to it like that.

Also he's 34 and a professional dancer! It isn't like a 19 year old boy's first attempt at samba rolls...

I'm going to have to watch Newsnight, I said upthread his sexualised behaviour would have bothered me but the likes of The Mail have clearly played this down.

Thank you. Just watched it now. Mail were always Pernice's voice but their reporting on the report sucks.

i wish they didn't have movie week so early(or just bin it) you hardly know the "celebs" and they dress silly.

Agree; most of them aren't really good enough to do the songs and themes justice, and there's a big crossover with Musicals Week, so they kind of cancel each other out.

Coruscations · 04/10/2024 09:44

I always enjoy Musicals week but it comes so late in the series that there aren't enough dancers left to do it justice. So a good compromise would be to swap it over with Movie week.

They are doing a Minions themed dance for the pros group dance this year. I know they are trying to appeal to a wider audience, but could they not have chosen a theme that didn't require them to wear silly fancy dress?

The other thing that bothers me about themed weeks is that some contestants get to wear something glamorous and elegant, and others have to wear a costume that may distract from their dancing.

Take Wyne for example, although he's taking it all in his stride, this is the second time in 3 dances that he's been made to look daft. Hopefully Katya's choreography and his enthusiasm will do all the talking, but contestants with daft costumes often suffer on the leaderboard.
Don't even mention Toyah and Neil with their costumes!

I agree. It's one of the ways in which the producers try to manipulate the results. And Movie and Musicals Weeks are always both basically Children's Weeks; it's so infantilising, for dancers and audience alike.

I have no particular feelings about AA one way or another but after watching the Victoria Derbyshire interview I felt very sorry for her.

The way she described the rehearsal process read like the pattern of classic domestic abuse. First belittling her and her ability, then showering her with extravagant praise (albeit in a sexually inappropriate manner). Like a victim of domestic abuse she never knew what would come next, she would cling on to the memories of the good times whilst dreading the next bad time.

Giovannsi's comment about her being mad is also a classic abusers line. 'My ex was crazy'.

And finally she said she didn't know why she didn't walk out sooner, that she was was so caught up in it she had forgotten what normal was. Again something we hear over and over again from victims of abuse.

i know some people will dismiss it by saying she is an actress who is acting very well but IME most actors are only good at interpreting other people's words. They aren't so good at telling a story themselves. Her story is very convincing.

Namechangefordaughterevasion · 04/10/2024 10:56

I agree the Musicals and Movies should be amalgamated.

I also wish they'd stop (or at least tone down) Halloween week. It's painful watching potentially beautiful dances being mangled by being forced into themed songs and costumes.

And while I'm on the theme of changes, please stop all the CGI. I want to see the dance not be distracted by non-existent elephants or psychedelic patterns.

I've just put a video on the videos thread you might enjoy, a Hallowe'en pro dance.

Harking back to the days when the pros actually did the different dances.

@PolkadotsAndMoonbeams Now that's a proper pros group dance. Very elegant, no faffing about or props or dodgy costumes getting in the way!

It's been a while since I've enjoyed a group dance by the pros. The recent group dances are more like pop videos and what is with the rubber glove obsession?

Samcro · 04/10/2024 14:44

Also after 20 years it's either the umpteenth time of use for a song/theme or a really, really tenuous Halloween connection. I want to see dances that showcase the skills (or lack there of) that the celebs have not a samba that is disco dance because that is the type of music they have been landed with but noone can find a samba track that fits the theme.

Bowednotbroken · 04/10/2024 15:57

Nick is injured and won't be competing this week - according to the Strictly fb page. Gets a bye till the following week.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 04/10/2024 15:59

Is it still his arm or is he very accident prone?

Shellingbynight · 04/10/2024 16:08

It's an injury 'sustained in rehearsals'
