I agree completely Reise - he lost his rep and arguably, some opportunities/his livelihood and she suffered immensely from trolling as well as impact on her career. But this compromise of finding in her favour for some, not all, means both can save face to a degree and claim a moral victory.

itsnotabouthepasta · 30/09/2024 21:04

I just hope they both just go away with a dignified silence now. Gio can focus on the Italian show and his tour next year, Amanda can do whatever she’s doing - but just accept the findings and bloody well shut up about it now!

periodiclabel · 30/09/2024 21:22

to be fair to Gio, he did not start this and has said very little – she is the one who now needs to shut up and as I think someone above said a BBC lawyer has probably ensured that she now will

Well of course he didn't start it.
He wasn't accusing anyone of abuse.
Amanda was.

Ultimately, Tom would have gone sooner rather than later ... Toyah will go soon. The best people will go through to the end. The only real travesty in all the Strictly years that I recall was the early booting of Aston Merrygold by Len. I see Nadiya is on SM saying she's too upset to talk about it

I vaguely remember feeling quite cross when Gaby Roslin was voted out. She was up against Penny Lancaster, and neither of them really deserved to be in DO as there were some real doozies in the table below them.

Lentilweaver · 01/10/2024 06:40

If anybody is interested, I have shared a video of Giovanni dancing the samba with his new partner Bianca on Ballando Con Le Stelle ( the Italian version of Strictly) in the videos thread. I am glad he joined that, so we can still enjoy his great dance and choreo. I miss him on Strictly, even if I can see that his conduct may have been questionable.

Giovanni has posted in quite triumphalist fashion on IG about, basically, how he's been vindicated and always knew he would be.
So not a dignified silence but a spin on the outcome.

Amanda's statement is also a spin on the outcome, but more neutral and clever IMO.

Giovanni lost any sympathy he had from me when I read that he said to a live audience, 'Let's see what that mad woman has to say.'

Voters really didn't like Gaby Roslin. The show took the position 'she left too soon' (it was even a line in a song Bruce Forsyth did in some end-of-series skit, IIRC), but she didn't; she left when people wanted her to leave.
She was accomplished, but she and her partner were so nakedly ambitious and entitled about winning that it was very off-putting. They were highly unlikeable, IMO.

tennissquare · 01/10/2024 09:19

@it was Gaby Logan and her husband carried on for a few more weeks. Gaby had no fan base, her husband had the Scottish and Rugby vote

tennissquare · 01/10/2024 09:21

Is anyone else missing the Strictly Jo Suggs podcast on BBc Sounds? I did think I might be the only listener and I'm not surprised it has gone (as all resources have gone to the cost of chaperoned etc) but I miss it.

D'oh, yes, Logan!

Indeed yes.

dollybird · 01/10/2024 10:30

I stopped following Gio on IG, as I got sick of all the comments on his posts. Everyone being so nasty about Amanda and kissing his 🍑 I felt he was loving the extra adoration and lapping it up a bit too much. A shame, as I loved his partnership with Rose, but the whole episode had left a sour taste in my mouth.

Lentilweaver · 01/10/2024 10:45

I don't follow any of the pros on IG as all.the selfies and pouting are too much for me on a daily basis😁

@MarkWithaC I saw that video, and I agree, it didn't come across well. Absolutely he had the right to say he was pleased that he was cleared of physical, mental and even sexual abuse. But he was found guilty of swearing and being overly critical, so he should have acknowledged that he will be reviewing his teaching methods from now on to make sure that each student gets the best out of their experience.

But it all comes back to what I said earlier - six of one, half a dozen of another.

The fact that both are claiming the moral high ground is hilarious and shows what a bloody waste of time the whole thing was.

xsquared · 01/10/2024 15:51

List of songs and dances are out for this Saturday.

I think might be right in thinking Toyah may be the joke act, along with Wynne. It's really not fair on them.

Redcrayons · 01/10/2024 16:15

I watched his video, it’s OK, but some acknowledgement that shouting and swearing at people is not OK or professional and he’ll learn from this in future would have been better.

The comments though…

Punam has a banger. " Bole Chudiyan" is a great Bolly number, far better than Jai Ho..It means " Speak, my bangles! " so I hope she has bangles up to her upper arms!

Where is the list, please? I used to look on the BBC site but can't find it there now!

xsquared · 01/10/2024 16:57

@munchbunch12 You can find it on their Facebook page and probably Indtagram as well. I'll copy and paste when I get home.

munchbunch12 · 01/10/2024 17:05

Thanks @xsquared

GrouchyKiwi · 01/10/2024 17:11

I hope Sarah's gown is covered in white feathers.

You can't bloody samba to "Poor, Unfortunate Souls". The hell are the dart-throwing monkeys on this year?

The Elvis song is actually in waltz timing (well, 12/8, but that's fine). It's a Movie Week Miracle.

EvilRingahBitch · 01/10/2024 17:52

I'd have Sarah as McGonagall in tribute to the late Dame Maggie. With Vito as....errrm...Snape? Dumbledore? Generic wizard? He's not really built for Hagrid.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 01/10/2024 17:56

For those who are still interested:

There's an article in the Mail now about what Gio actually said, and I wouldn't be happy with the sexualised gesture and remarks if I'm honest

CaveMum · 01/10/2024 18:31

Well that’s Toya’s being styled as Ursula then, no doubt with distracting, flapping tentacles attached to her costume.

Neil as Flounder or Sebastian do we think?! They could recycle Scott Mills’ costume if it’s still in storage!
