I enjoyed ITT tonight. Joanne's CC was really informative.

Sam and Nikita were on the sofa. Isn't week 2 early for a (hockey inspired they revealed) charleston?

EsmaCannonball · 24/09/2024 22:25

Danny and Oti's Misty Blue is one of my favourite Strictly dances of all time. Don't like it when they reuse songs from iconic routines (although the effin' public landed them in the bottom two with that one. Fuckers.).

I said a couple of threads back that I wanted Wynne to VW at Blackpool to Libiamo from La Traviata, doing a big, operatic ballroom scene. I suppose The Blue Danube is a bit different for Strictly and, literally, a proper VW, but it's a bit pedestrian in comparison.

The bastards need to stop with the abysmal ballroom song choices. Do they think Gen Z-ers with spontaneously bleed to death from their ears if they hear more than one jazz standard in the space of an hour, or something?

<climbs on soapbox>

Bring back Week 1 & Week 2 - Waltz and Cha Cha Cha ONLY!

<climbs off>

I am coming round to this way of thinking more and more each time we have dodgy Week One dances.

AlexaSetATimer · 24/09/2024 23:40

Oof a rumba in week 2 yikes!

Agree with the comments about song choices - with all the music in the world, why do some of the same songs get so constantly trotted out series after series? Yes ok they might fit a dance style well, but surely there are many, many others with the same beat pattern?!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/09/2024 00:07

And some even without the correct beat pattern can be arranged so they work — there's a lovely waltz version of Closest Thing to Crazy, even though that's originally in 4/4.

Ah - it will be hockey sticks as canes, won't it? - Charleston has been done week 2 since 2013 (Bobby and Nikita last year, Kaye and Tony the year before, Tilly, Chris R, Joe, Lauren, Ruth, Susan, Tameka, Ed, Anita, Dan O'D, Frankie, Gregg, Sophie ICONIC, Tony (golf clubs).
Sometimes as a lifeline, sometimes it hasn't worked (Tony, Gregg, Kaye)

Same here, that was a fantastic dance.💕 I miss Oti (and Danny should have won).

His full name in our house is DannyWhatWuzRobbed.

I’m sure he has a real surname 😂, but we’ve never forgiven the voting public for that travesty of an outcome.

That is the correct name and sounds better than his real surname.

EvilRingahBitch · 25/09/2024 07:09

I foresee a high risk of nose-booping from Dianne with that song.

I'm still bitter that we never got to see Sophie perform that Charleston in the final. It was amazing just in week two!

Someone did a nose bop on Saturday's show-can't remember who, it was a looong show

I think it was Sam and Nikita. It certainly put a brief dent in my love for them, but thankfully I got over it. Grin

Ellmau · 22/09/2024 18:31

Pete Wicks is giving me creepy Russell Brand vibes.

Me too. Like Graziano. Looks like he needs a good wash.

dollybird · 25/09/2024 11:47

Kelvin and Oti's rumba is my favourite rumba on Strictly. Jamie will just not have the same 🔥

Not sure if this link to FB will work, but they’ve released some mic clips from Saturday night.

EsmaCannonball · 25/09/2024 20:20

After watching ITT I'm going to guess that the Toyah and Neil partnership isn't really working. He seems unwilling to adapt his choreography to her needs and she seemed very keen to imply that any failings on Saturday night were his fault. Any thoughts that he was brought off the bench because they had great chemistry have gone right out the window.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 25/09/2024 20:23

@EsmaCannonball

Interesting. Would you say she came across as a diva or arrogant or just frustrated?

EsmaCannonball · 25/09/2024 20:44

No, she definitely didn't come across as a diva. It felt like she wanted to get it across that the weird bits of choreography and being dragged around with her feet not touching the floor were not things that she could help. All the other couples on the show (even Tom and Nadiya) had some kind of chemistry but with Toyah and Neil it's like it hasn't gone the way either of them wanted and they are both imagining if it could have been different with another partner.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 25/09/2024 20:46

Ouch. It does seem that Neil has no luck.

Arconialiving · 25/09/2024 20:47

That's part of the reason I don't like Neil @EsmaCannonball - he never has chemistry with any of his celebrities and out dances them every time. Even when they're decent (Alex Scott), he can't bring out the best in them & play to their strengths - she was so much better the week she was with Kevin!

gingercat02 · 25/09/2024 20:53

Maybe Neil will get a sudden injury, and Kai can step in.

Toyah slipping and accidentally kicking him in the groin?

periodiclabel · 25/09/2024 20:59

Neil is a bad teacher and charmless individual. Why why why did they take him off the bench and put Kai and Carlos there?

xsquared · 25/09/2024 21:28

In Neil's defence, he only had 3 celeb partners in his 8 years on Strictly.

Alex Scott was good enough to be in the quarter final.

I think Nina Wadia only had Samba and Tango, and didn't really shine in either of those, but I also got the impression that she wasn't taking it as seriously as he was going from some of the Strictly social media training clips.

Toyah just looked very clumsy and far, far too skippy in that Tango. She couldn't even get the head whip right. It was embarrassing. Perhaps Neil should have toned the choreography down to something she could manage.
