The BBC has acquired Apples Never Fall, a limited drama series based on Liane Moriarty’s (Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers) #1 New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, for BBC iPlayer and TV channels.

With a star cast led by Annette Bening and Sam Neill, the seven-part drama is adapted for screen by writer, showrunner and executive producer Melanie Marnich and produced by Heyday Television, which is part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group.

7 episodes. On weekly

Apples Never Fall centres on the seemingly picture-perfect Delaney family.

Former tennis coaches Stan and Joy have sold their successful tennis academy and are ready to start what should be the golden years of their lives.

While they look forward to spending time with their four adult children, everything changes when a wounded young woman knocks on Joy and Stan's door, bringing the excitement they've been missing.

But when Joy suddenly disappears, her children are forced to re-examine their parents' so-called perfect marriage as their family’s darkest secrets begin to surface.

it opens a floodgate of revelations as this perfect family is unveiled as being anything but.

As tensions between Stan and the four adult children mount, the investigation into Joy’s whereabouts fuels an addictive mystery.

The series stars Annette Bening (Nyad, American Beauty) and Sam Neill (Peaky Blinders, Jurassic Park) as Joy and Stan, with Jake Lacy (The White Lotus, How to be Single), Alison Brie (GLOW, Mad Men), Conor Merrigan-Turner (Thai Cave Rescue, Shattered) and Essie Randles (The Speedway Murders) as their four children.
Sue Deeks, Head of Programme Acquisition at the BBC says: “Suspenseful and sinister, Apples Never Fall is a compelling mystery drama that will keep BBC viewers intrigued until its riveting final episode.”

What no Nicole Kidman?😀

WomanFromTheNorth · 16/09/2024 22:19

Thanks for this. I like her other stuff.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2024 22:35

Yes I thought she might be in it but nope

I wish it was set in Australia, don't know why it has to become American.

Having said that, I think Annette Bening will be a good Joy, although Sam Neill isn't how I envisaged Stan.

westisbest1982 · 16/09/2024 23:10

I’ve been looking forward for months to see this (it was broadcast in the states in March and April). I knew it was filmed in Australia and assumed it was set there but clearly not as @Romeiswheretheheartis says it’s set in America.

I don’t have the patience to stretch this until November so I’ll likely watch all seven episodes next week.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 17/09/2024 06:31

looks promising, thank you

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/09/2024 09:04

I had never heard of it

So based on a book

Wonder if they will stick to the book or change the ending like so many series do

I've seen this , they left out or changed a significant plot point and it really irked me. If I hadn't just finished the book it might not have annoyed me so much

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/09/2024 14:48

So annoying they do this

I watched Wolf last year. Loved it

Then read the book

Ans book ending is diff from series

I loved Big Little Lies but wonder if the tv execs just picked up everything she wrote on the back of that without it necessarily being a potential big hitter?

I enjoyed the book, and this looks promising.

westisbest1982 · 21/09/2024 23:03

It feels a bit basic, like one of those mediocre drama's you usually get on ITV. And some of the American accents by Australian actors sound distracting. But I'm intrigued to find out what happened to Joy. and Annette Bening is always amazing.

Ilovetea33 · 22/09/2024 03:56

I fell asleep in the middle. Have to try again tomorrow.

autienotnaughty · 22/09/2024 05:04

I read the book three years ago and really enjoyed it so I was looking forward to this. It's been good so far. Luckily because it's been a while since I read the book I can't fully remember it so it's not affecting my viewing.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/09/2024 07:50

I haven't read the book but I find often the book ending and series ending are different

I loved this book and couldn't put it down, but it was massive and a slow burner. I can't quite remember it now, but will probably watch it all today, so thank you!

purpleme12 · 22/09/2024 15:15

Oooh a tele programme where I've actually read the book!
