Let’s hope it’s better than the opening ceremony!

Starts at 7 pm on BBC 1.

Alex Yee will be carrying the GB flag.

I just got a server error and that would have been awful. With whom would I have shared my incisive commentary.

These bits are always wank. I love and hate them in equal measure.

WhitesAndStripes · 11/08/2024 21:26

Mummy (the ancient Egyptian type) vibes now.

Pebbles16 · 11/08/2024 21:26

So the French have been suitably existential in the opening and (now) closing ceremonies. But the actual games have been awesome and really highlighted the beauty of Paris.
I lived there for two years many moons ago and it became the backdrop of my life. DH is absolutely not a Francophile (perhaps the opposite but can't think of the word), but even said today he thought he might like to go back as it looks so beautiful.
Admittedly the crowds probably still had to side step le merde du chien.
Just to leave you with a Sartre quote which I hope the Olympics has stamped out:
Every existing thing is born without reason, prolongs itself out of weakness, and dies by chance.
And yes, I studied philosophy in Paris!!

Is Mumsnet crashing for everyone?

Yes.

Crashing under the anticipation of one more glimpse of Tony.

ApolloandDaphne · 11/08/2024 21:27

Slow here too.

Bruisername · 11/08/2024 21:28

Super slow reloading

the lights in the crowd were cool. Rest is meh so far

JaneJeffer · 11/08/2024 21:28

In the hopes that this will reach you all eventually may I just say Daft Punk

TheYearOfSmallThings · 11/08/2024 21:28

TellyUsername · 11/08/2024 21:24

Is Mumsnet crashing for everyone?

Yep. The sparkly gold fella jinxed us.

Peony15 · 11/08/2024 21:28

I really enjoyed the opening ceremony, quirky, stylish, cultural. Then again, love anything French / France.
Was told by an LA resident , the city , known for it's endless traffic jams will have everybody going to events in 2028 on public ( non existant ) transport 😂

littlbrowndog · 11/08/2024 21:28

Crashing all the time

Goinggreymammy · 11/08/2024 21:29

I'm finding this dance/dramatic sequence a bit drawn out.

Bruisername · 11/08/2024 21:29

The show director really hates pianists

covetingthepreciousthings · 11/08/2024 21:29

SwedishEdith · 11/08/2024 21:23

How are they doing the lights in the crowd?

They're LED bracelets I think, like Coldplay had at Glastonbury. Very effective I think

JaneJeffer · 11/08/2024 21:30

Unravelled cassette couture

MotherOfCatBoy · 11/08/2024 21:30

Yes slow for me too. Just like this ceremony.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/08/2024 21:30

Poor pianist, having to perform in a bin bag whilst clinging on for dear life. Maybe they were worried it would rain on him again.

WhitesAndStripes · 11/08/2024 21:31

And now a vertical piano played by someone who has lost a battle with some video tape.

Halsall · 11/08/2024 21:32

I didn’t know they had pianos in Ancient Greece 🤔

Or bad mime

ArabellaScott · 11/08/2024 21:32

I like the hanging piano.

RealHousewivesOfTaunton · 11/08/2024 21:33

It's Goldar and the Putty Patrollers vs a Dementor.

GrouchyKiwi · 11/08/2024 21:33

I think the feed is out of sync. The pianist's fingers were moving at the wrong time too.

DameBroad · 11/08/2024 21:35

This is dreadful. Sorry, but it’s just visually not pleasing and has gone on far too long.

SwedishEdith · 11/08/2024 21:35

ArabellaScott · 11/08/2024 21:20

I went and did the laundry and seem to have missed some batshit Power Rangers display. Alas.

Didn't see that. Are they remote controlled then for the pattern/sequence but the audience just wear them? Very effective

Raahh · 11/08/2024 21:36

MN has been down for me all the time the Mummies and the hanging Piano of Paris have been featuring.

Maybe it was one of pianos from the opening ceremony, that got wet, and it's the only way to dry it out?

I'm sure this is all very symbolic, but I don't really get it.

Bruisername · 11/08/2024 21:36

Some did back flips, some just jumped…

if the whole thing is going to be at this pace I may not see the end
