Ready for the final on Wednesday!

Will Luke be a drag?
Will Ailsa's nerves hold out?
Will Pascha's cheery competence win the day?

Marking place. Luke has grown on me in the last few weeks. I like them all - Pascha’s dress last week was outstanding. Ailsa’s trousers from an earlier episode were amazing.

Brefugee · 23/07/2024 08:17

thanks for this - must remember it exists!

AndYesTheWeeDonkeys · 23/07/2024 08:25

Having never watched the show at all until about halfway through this series I’ve now binged all ten seasons. (It’s amazing it ever developed when S1 was so stiff and depressing.)

Now I’m wondering what on earth I’ll replace it with. (Not actual dressmaking; I have no patience.)

It really ought to be Pascha or Luke - but I think there’ve been a few instances where the underdog has won it with their very last outfit. (I should have made notes!)

There was a series where a man made a very structural dress for his wife (Matt, maybe?). That's the only series where I remember disagreeing with the winner.

This definitely hasn't been a great series. Normally there's loads I want to try, but this time it's only Ailsa's trousers weeks ago that really stood out

Thank you @SoupDragon for the new thread.

BiscuityBoyle · 23/07/2024 09:06

Checking in. Is it tonight or tomorrow?

newpussmum · 23/07/2024 11:01

This year has been very poor tbh, Suzy in the semi-final and doesn't know how a hook and eye goes on?

Last year was incredible and I will never forget the swirly dress in the final, truly incredible. Can you see any of the finalists pulling that off this week? No chance!

There have been some good garments but few and far between.

Still love it though. And Patrick Grant... 😍😍😍 if I was 10 years younger what I wouldn't do with him! 😛

deeahgwitch · 23/07/2024 11:16

I agree with you @newpussmum that this year's contestants have been poor compared to previous years.
I was gobsmacked that Suzy didn't know how to use a hook and eye,
I'm not a sewer iron on hemming is my forte but even I could do that.

Pascha for the win.
Patrick consistently praises her sewing skills

CheerfulBunny · 23/07/2024 11:20

Suzy = Bubble from Ab Fab

Pascha for the win, I think she's been the most consistent and her skills are the strongest. That bias cut dress last week - sublime! I must say I do admire Luke's creativity.

AndYesTheWeeDonkeys · 23/07/2024 12:32

I knew Suzy reminded me of someone! Grin Do you think it’s conscious emulation or just … her?

BestIsWest · 23/07/2024 12:34

Suzy also reminded me of Grace Dent.

CheerfulBunny · 23/07/2024 14:03

@AndYesTheWeeDonkeys she's probably too young to get the reference tbh but when she wore a massive, bright pink faux fur coat on one episode it just did it for me. It's a compliment really, Jane Horrocks is so pretty.

AndYesTheWeeDonkeys · 23/07/2024 14:08

Absolutely!

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 23/07/2024 14:08

I think it should be Pascha. She's been the most consistent, though in previous years she would have been middle of the pack. Luke has grown on me.

longtompot · 23/07/2024 20:23

@AndYesTheWeeDonkeys
Now I’m wondering what on earth I’ll replace it with. (Not actual dressmaking; I have no patience.)

I have just recently set up my sewing machine and gathered all the projects a
from around the house, mainly repairs, and taken over my ds's bedroom. He lives with his gf but they come back several times a year so it's free most of the time, and everything is in boxes so easily moved when I need to.
I have also bought the pattern for the top they made one week from tablecloths which I am looking forward to making out of my dd's old duvet cover which has a lovely embroidery detail. I do have two of the table cloths some of them used, with the embroidered flowers, but I love using them for their intended purpose. I might have a look in the charity shops and see if I can get one to use to make another top.

I haven't sewn for years. I mainly do crochet and knitting, but used to sew a lot when I was younger. When I was at school we had to bring in some fabric to make a top. I couldn't buy any so used an old worn out bed sheet.

I'd love Pascha to win, but also would be happy if Ailsa or Luke do

PickAChew · 24/07/2024 11:59

I'm looking forward to car crash opera gloves 🍿

Brefugee · 24/07/2024 15:24

no spoilers please - i always switch off before the "next week's preview" just so i don't see what they'll be making.

I will watch live, as an exception (it's 10pm for me) so i may also be along to chat

Hatty65 · 24/07/2024 19:05

I will probably watch it on iplayer on catch up as we have plans this evening.

Hedjwitch · 24/07/2024 19:45

I'm rooting for Luke or Ailsa. Find Pascha really irritating.

SoupDragon · 24/07/2024 20:12

i don't actually mind who wins I don't think.

I like Pascha but I don't mind if one of the others wins.

EvilRingahBitch · 24/07/2024 20:48

Thanks for the new thread. Placemarking - I'll be watching on catch-up from about 9:30.

Yes I do too!
Think she'll win though.
