Ready for the final on Wednesday!

Will Luke be a drag?
Will Ailsa's nerves hold out?
Will Pascha's cheery competence win the day?

It does help if the presenters either give the appearance of feeling some affection for the participants (Claudia) or have at least a passing interest in sewing (Kiell).

Otherwise, yes, we get the glazed eyes (Sara) or unbelievably tediously declaimed ‘jokes’ (Joe).

CwmYoy · 26/07/2024 12:45

I was disappointed with this series compared to those that went before.

TokyoSushi · 26/07/2024 12:49

Yes this was definitely a poor series, I skipped a few episodes and wasn't really bothered. My favourites were Clare the Dr who won and Nicole Akong who was also in that series. I also loved the Annie, Brogan and Man Yee series. And of course the absolutely divine Aasma. This one has been nowhere near.

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 26/07/2024 13:37

I've enjoyed all the presenters since it came back with Joe. Kiell has been a lot of fun and I hope we see him again next year.

BiscuityBoyle · 26/07/2024 13:59

I loved Kiell as a presenter, but then I too love Ghosts. I think he struck the right balance between host, keeping spirits up and being an Everyman

SoupDragon · 26/07/2024 14:23

I've decided that it was actually quite refreshing having sewers who made the same sort of mistakes I would. It was the series for sewers who have caught an arm whilst sewing the hem, put something on back to front or had their machine simply decide that today wasn't going to be a day for sewing.

Piano is an adjective and an adverb as well as a noun but I see what you mean.

Is it? In English? Ah, I've looked it up. So it is, although a bit obscure for most of us.

I don't think you can deny Luke's got genuine talent. That tie transformation last week was phenomenal. And Ailsa's trousers and sari/kilt mashups were amazing.

And Pacha's m2m dress in lingerie week was amazing, along with her kid's fun outfit from towel and coco chanel inspired dress. I am so impressed with her being so talented at such young age. She is only 20.

Yes she was great. The Riviera trousers were fabulous too.

deeahgwitch · 27/07/2024 09:31

Could you give me an example of piano as an adjective and adverb please @SantaMariaMaggiore ?

Uiommpourting · 27/07/2024 09:43

I didn’t enjoy this series as much as every other series. Everything thing was engineered towards a win from Luke, just to show how woke the BBC is.

I hate drag, it demeans women.

What’s with the pronouns? Luke is very clearly male and gay. So what!

Piano, pronounced pee-ah-no, mean quiet or quietly in music notation.

deeahgwitch · 27/07/2024 09:55

Thank you @BiscuityBoyle

People said much the same thing about Nadiyah winning Bake Off and I didn't believe that either.

They are directions in music, meaning to play softly. You can use piano to modify a noun (adjective) for example the sound of something or a verb (adverb) for example how you are making the sound.

Absolute nonsense. Lukes last three outfits were easily the best in the episode. They should have won the party dress too. It was much more structured and technical. It's offensive to downplay a worthy winner. And only lazy people and daily Mail journalists throw woke around like it's an insult.

Why the trigger with their choice of pronouns. How does that impact on your life.

"Woke" in what way? They've had gay men in the final before. Hardly new or groundbreaking.

Drag is irrelevant given there was no actual drag in this programme. It's almost like you're looking for something to be offended about.

the whinging about drag and pronouns is tedious. It's a sewing programme.

@CaptainMyCaptain totally off topic , but Nadiya has done so well for herself since the show. I'm really pleased for her as she's representative of so many young mums that lose confidence in their abilities when they have small children. Her speech on winning made me cry!

I agree and she totally deserved to win with or without a hijab.

Samcro · 27/07/2024 17:04

Just watched it .
thought Luke was the right winner.
sad that threads about entertainment shows always become unpleasant and predictable.

FriendsDrinkBook · 27/07/2024 17:17

@Samcro yes. Luke was the best on the day and had the best range of skills.

I hate the unpleasantness on these threads. The stuff about Brogan a few years ago made me stop posting on the sb thread. These people are human beings , and I think that's forgotten sometimes.

PickAChew · 27/07/2024 23:48

I think I've just spotted the inspiration behind the back of last week's MTM in one of my Burda mags.

Well I think that looks bloody ridiculous, but perhaps I have no taste.

It would be useless in the rain. She looks a bit pissed off in it.

NashvilleQueen · 28/07/2024 09:35

It was the right result on the final episode but the overall standard has been so far below the others that it's hard to invest in them in the way I have in the past.

The final MTM this year pales in comparison to the genuine gasp at the skill of Asmaa when that dress unfurled in her final.

I don't know whether his feels like they've reached an end point with the series. I don't need them to keep finding new challenges. I'll happily watch them make basic garments week in and week out tbh but I do want them to prioritise sewing skills over anything else.
