I feel like I haven't had a series in a while which has really gripped me and made me eager to watch more.

Any suggestions? I have Netflix, Amazon prime, Disney + along with usual BBC/ITV etc

Usually watch dramas/crime thrillers etc. but open to most genres. Thanks!

As well as lots that have been mentioned above I just downloaded and watched The Killing from about 2011 and Deadloch which is on Amazon Prime.

Severance is also one of the most gripping shows I've ever seen.

Also Mr Inbetween and After the Party.

Shōgun was absolutely amazing! Best thing I've seen for a few years. Also really enjoying Money Heist.

Really enjoyed Designated Survivor on Netflix

I watched the first 2 episodes of The Lady in the Lake and the rave reviews apply. Fantastic cast, production, music ….it’s very brooding, intense, nuanced and although racism is very much to the foreground (60’s Baltimore) I don’t feel as if it’s battering you with a big clunky stick. Natalie Portman & Moses Ingram are brilliant.
@reframefeelings ditto Severance ! Also was thinking of The Killing the other day, with 1 weekly episode (no streaming!) I never missed it as the tension ratcheted up so much ! And it was truly shocking then.
Jealous of Shōgun but absolutely can’t justify another subscription….

Not a current series but Orange is the New Black gripped me from beginning to end and is still my favourite US series from recent years. So many great characters and storylines.

For a completely different theme, try Seaside Hotel on 4. Follows a group of people who stay at the same hotel in very rural Denmark each year. It’s lovely- funny and moving and with people you really get to care about. Starts in the 1920s, with each season covering another summer.

Just finished 'The Defeated' on Netflix. Set in Berlin right after the end of WW2. Fascinating portrayal of the city split by British, US and Russan sectors. One huge bombsite which a NYPD cop goes to to help set up a fledging Police Force. Who has the power in the city? how it's negotiated. Really interesting setting and powerful storyline re cop's brother who went AWOL from US Army. I know there's probably massive inaccuracies, but its been hugely though-provoking.

I don't think it is yet. I watched it another way.

@colouringindoors I second Godless-an enthralling western packed with British stars. I have never been as gripped by anything as Narcos-the story of Escobar v the DEA. Wonderful leads and gripping stories.

Willmafrockfit · 21/07/2024 10:18

i was gripped by baby reindeer

it is such a good watch

We are totally hooked on a series called "under the bridge" on Disney plus. It's a bit sad and disturbing, but very interesting. Based on a true story I think, about a young teenage girl who gets in with the wrong crowd and something terrible happens to her.

hideawayforever · 27/08/2024 21:24
