Starting a new SCD thread for chat prior to the series as the last is about to fill.

These threads are usually helmed by @PolkadotsAndMoonbeams and I normally deputise, but I haven't seen her around in a while

This thread will discuss who has been chosen for the show, but not who has been paired with who as that's a spoiler for the first show.

I was sad when Nina Wadia went out so early. She seemed fun, and I think could have gone further

I hope I express this properly. A bit of a generalisation, but S Asians are often too shy to prance about in sequinned trousers, and quite a few come from backgrouds where being a doctor/lawyer/engineer is everything, so seeing them do samba rolls is a particular delight! I really enjoyed Krishnan's dad's gobsmacked expression last year. Apparently he is a prominent radiologist, as is Krishnan's mum, and Krishnan had a lot of pressure to go into medicine.

What about Rishi Nanavati from Materchef 2022? Yes, I'm sure many of you won't have heard of him before and that, I didn't until I discovered his Instagram account of unique and wonderful recipes.

Anyway, Strictly have been casting their celebrity net further to include social media influences and reality TV contestants, and I quite like him.

I love Archie Panjabi. I have the scene in The Good Wife where she takes a baseball bat to the car of the bloke threatening/ undermining her saved and frequently replay it thinking of my ex husband and how much I wish I had done this to his car!
Agree she is too big a star though.

He's been mentioned on these threads before but Amar Latif seems totally lovely and is an ITT-established Strictly Superfan. I was hoping he'd be asked one day.

He's got nothing in common with Chris McAusland except the obvious, and the fact that I'd be delighted to see either of them take part (maybe not the same year, and not consecutive years)

Sajid Javid might be a good pick. I'm not a Tory but I've got time for him - less divisive than some politicians, and he's not a practising Muslim so less likely to have a problem with the content.

I'm genuinely keen on Alok Sharma as well but he's not a big enough name.

Sadiq Khan gives me the impression that he'd do it like a shot if he ever leaves the job.

That Michael Portillo and his globetrotting jollies have got a lot to answer for. You think you've vanquished MPs but then they keep popping up doing punditry and travel documentaries and cookbooks. I guess, given the amount of high-profile ones who stood down or lost their seats, we're about due an ex-MP. Thank god, Jacob Rees-Mogg will be too busy with his new reality show. Jeremy Hunt actually had a sprung dancefloor installed in his house and took lambada lessons so I think we should thank the people of Goldalming and Ash for that near miss.

I would love Sadiq Khan. He has a twinkle in his eye. Or maybe Tulip Siddiqui?

Oh god not Alok, he was our MP and he was well known to be a bit of a dickhead. His record of how he voted was abysmal and he ignored the needs of the urban bit if Reading and only visited the leafy outskirts.

That's a shame, I'll bow to your superior knowledge of his qualities as a constituency MP. I liked him on climate issues though.

Hannah is very tall. Her career post-lasso seems to be going very well, I can't see why she would have the time or lack of other work that would allow her to do it.

I like Hannah but her height is potentially also an issue and this definitely isn't on her radar as something she needs to do now that she's broken into Hollywood
