Starting a new SCD thread for chat prior to the series as the last is about to fill.

These threads are usually helmed by @PolkadotsAndMoonbeams and I normally deputise, but I haven't seen her around in a while

This thread will discuss who has been chosen for the show, but not who has been paired with who as that's a spoiler for the first show.

I don’t recognise a number of those pro names. I got into SCD the year Ann W, Pamela S, Patsy K and Gavin H were on it. I was quite late to the party! It’s still one of my favourite seasons.

This will be her eighth

1 Rev Richard - early boot (Gone in a Flash! - ah ah!!)
2 Joe - finals
3 Dev - too early boot (crap cha cha)
4 Max - that Simpsons routine
5 Robert - withdrew and wouldn't come back for the final either
6 Tyler - curse of the wig (salsa)
7 Bobby - finals

This is somewhat tongue in cheek but looking at that list I wouldn’t mind watching “Strictly Senior” featuring older, heavier, slightly crumped , ex professionals …

… they presumably can still teach well? But the celebrities wouldn’t be under the same pressure to keep up with them 😀

I'm not sure Matthew and Nicole were a visa marriage actually — I've seen a video of them years ago (like a "meet the English Latin champions" type thing) where they seemed very sweet together and sincere about falling in love through dancing.

Perhaps I'm just not cynical enough!

Strictly Middle Aged Spread - might be a hit

I saw a YouTube video, maybe with Shirley Ballas, and she picks a rather fat man to show some steps to everyone else and he’s very good, it turns out he’s an ex champion or something. She obviously knew that, that’s why she picked him. So yes, any older, unfit, coming out of retirement dancers would be fine by me.

Found it! It’s Shirley and Michael Chapman, proving you don’t need to be young and slim to have all the talent.

They make a great pairing and I cannot take my eyes off Shirley’s superbly neat feet!

I used to watch ITT all the time and it was pretty obvious when the pros didn't care if they lasted more than two weeks/ and once voted out.
Almost relief that finally week 3 or 4 they no longer had to continue with said celeb.
Yes celebs were often not great or very middle of the road or lacked time to train, but it always came across as rude to me.
Gorka stands out, Brendan of course, Anton. They were quite open and not enthusiastic with their celebs in the interview s.

I just watched the Shirley video oh .it's fantastic isn't it, I love Shirley I'm a big fan.

The only shocking stuff is the abuse/ violent behaviour. Everything else has been over scrutinised on here and DS over the years about Every little sign of chemistry or lack of. Everything picked up on. Going on very little sometimes, but that's Internet forums.

I'd read about Sophie Ellis Bextors husband before and thought he seemed insecure and needy.
Texting her constantly throughout the day and worrying he wasn't her future.
Wow. He should have dated someone less profile back in the day if he was really that insecure.

Yes I thought that odd in respect of Sophie's husband becoming upset when she didn't reply to his texts. Very needy.

Yes, I think the stuff about SEB's husband says a lot more about him and their marriage than the show. Plus, he should have been a fan of the show then he'd know the likelihood of Sophie running off with Brendan was slimmer than an Italian whippet.

As for pros wanting to be voted off, I guess we should remember that some of the celebs are so obviously only in it for the paycheck and that others don't exactly seem pleasant themselves. It's not all one-way horribleness.

I agree with this. There’s been plenty of celebs who have made it clear they didn’t want to be there and were contractually obliged (EE cast members and BBC newsreaders specifically). There were also others who clearly had no time to train due to other workloads so you have to question why they signed up in the first place

Absolutely yes to this! I'm so bored of every tiny thing being dredged up..yes the abuse from Graziano was awful and completely unacceptable but seriously, any tiny thing being dredged up is getting ridiculous now.. the media just needs to leave it alone but of course they won't..

Well, after tomorrow's interview with Amanda (and findings of the investigation into Gio??) we should soon safely be on the early August train of announcing the new contestants?

Massively.. I'm hoping once the show starts it will blow over. I'm so fed up of seeing a new thing in the media everyday..
