Strictly Come Dancing '24 Thread 1 : Who will be our celebs and Pros?

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 13/07/2024 20:45

Starting a new SCD thread for chat prior to the series as the last is about to fill.

These threads are usually helmed by @PolkadotsAndMoonbeams and I normally deputise, but I haven't seen her around in a while

This thread will discuss who has been chosen for the show, but not who has been paired with who as that's a spoiler for the first show.

This is a NO SPOILER thread

@Bluffinwithmymuffin whatever🤣🤣!

I was simply stating facts you are the one on your high horse not me…stating it wasn’t the top story to have a dig at me…

This Morning had it as their main topic today when they talk about the headlines making the news 😊

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 17/07/2024 09:05

It's not top story in the Mail, it's just there. The issues with certain pros and participants need to be addressed and dealt with of course, as it seems they are being - but I see no reason why a successful show of such longstanding should be cancelled, and I highly doubt it will be.
Sure, the problems have probably ruined the show forever for some people; if that's the case, they can just stop watching.

I agree. I don't want it to be cancelled as it fills a much needed cosy gap during the cold winter nights. Agree with those who want it to go back to basics & enough of the emotion / mawkishness but definitely want it to continue.

marshmallowmix · 17/07/2024 11:26

I like the show but it needs a revamp if it is to continue...given the recent stories that have come out re Amanda, Zara etc

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 17/07/2024 11:30

@marshmallowmix
Not to "have a dig" at you, or downplay what you were saying, etc etc... that's just your interpretation. I only pointed out that what I read is on page 17 of the actual paper, so not the main story.

Moving on... @Arconialiving, let's hope the powers that be do finally take note of what many pps have been saying on these threads for years, and go back to basics. Maybe the nostalgia show @ChessieFL mentioned will be the start of that. Hopefully Strictly's got many more joyous years left in it yet.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 17/07/2024 11:35

Ooh, the invitation to apply for tickets to the prerecorded pro dances has just come up on the BBC website...

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 17/07/2024 11:36

@marshmallowmix I think our app’s priority is what we usually read. Yours has dance news because it knows you like dance. Mine has dogs.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 17/07/2024 11:56

Thinking about it, what the papers say is only a small part of it anyway. I guess the viewing figures would have to plummet and consistently stay in the gutter before the BBC decided to pull the plug on it, similar to what happened with the X factor on ITV (if I've got that right).

MeAgainAndAgain · 17/07/2024 12:28

ChessieFL · 17/07/2024 10:19

Apologies if everyone already knows this but I’ve only just seen it - BBC will be showing the first ever episode of Strictly as part of a ‘summer nostalgia’ series. Not clear exactly when it will be shown though - a Saturday night starting from 27th July.

Shame it’s just the first episode, would love to watch the whole of the earlier series!

www.express.co.uk/showbiz/tv-radio/1922563/brucie-tess-daly-strictly-come-dancing-summer-nostalgia/amp

Well that will be interesting, a view into how it started, the standards of dancing, the amount of gushing etc!

I remember Natasha Kaplinsky’s bracelet flying off during one of the dances, I think that was the most scandalous thing to happen!

Then, after it’s shown, can we please get on with the next series TONED DOWN like it started all those years ago?

There is a point where things are enough. Why are we always hankering for more?

I’m really truly sorry if your granny died but prime time Saturday night light entertainment family viewing is NOT the place to talk about it.

EsmaCannonball · 17/07/2024 13:21

No, the only trauma inspiration I would allow the celebs to keep is DeadNan. It's tradition. It's also why they need to keep the cast from being too young and fit. There's been quite a few LiveNans creeping in these past few years and it's just not the same. If they're looking down on you from row three of the audience and not heaven, you're doing it wrong.

😂This made me laugh.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 17/07/2024 13:31

Natasha Kaplinsky's bracelet... hmm. I thought the first series scandal was the rumours around Natasha's partnership with Brendan, which is what broke his engagement to Camilla Dallerup? Grin

Wheresthebeach · 17/07/2024 13:33

Agree the endless tragic video segments needs to stop and the dreaded couples choice. Less emotional manipulation and more dance please.

only only good thing about the videos is it gives me a chance to restock the snacks

That goes for Dead Husbands too.

Sorry not sorry.

I do like the tabloid terminology; 'person of interest,' as if Benson and Stabler are on the case. If I had to bet I would go for Artem or Brendan or James but, then again, I would never have guessed Graziano so it could be anyone. Let's hope not lovely Ian or Tristan. We know that Tristan stayed good friends with Jennifer Gibney after the show and generally seemed not to care less about the whole thing.

There's now a short video clip of James being annoyed at Georgina, so I wonder if the tabloids either know it's him and they're dropping breadcrumbs, or whether they've no idea and are trying to out them

Lentilweaver · 17/07/2024 17:29

Would they be so pressed about James though; he left ages ago. Though if I had to bet on anyone, it would be him.

FailBetter · 17/07/2024 18:32

The early footage of Brendan Mr Angry Cole and James Anger management candidate Jordan are not nice viewing - their bad boy rep was built on them being antagonistic and rude so either could be framed as verbally abusive.

However, those incidents are already in the public domain and, what's worse for the BBC, were aired for public viewing not castigated.

Therefore the most likely candidate is Artem and the person who will have reported him is Fern Britton. She went to the press and it was reported upon and he denied it. Artem is in the US, still a pro on DWTS, married to Nikki Bella (an ex partner) and has kids. I doubt he will have any fucks to give unless Stateside then sack him (again - he did have his contract not renewed one time when he claimed votes were rigged, which they may well have been).
Whether Fern can sue the BBC in a group action or ask for footage to sue Artem separately is another story, especially as he does not live here. Unless Carter Ruck are just going for a job lot.

Artem will not have complaints from Kara (they ended up in a relationship) or Natalie (used to be a dancer) and I doubt that Holly will care (millionaire husband, before going far right used to be lackadaisical and laughed at being in the dance off). Fern, however, said he kicked and shoved her so I'd be amazed if she hasn't contacted them.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 17/07/2024 18:48

Agree @FailBetter

EvilRingahBitch · 17/07/2024 19:32

Yes I can't see Holly complaining about bullying, it would be far too snowflake-y for her new brand.
