I couldn’t see a new thread so thought I’d make one. Yup another boring one… Anyway looks like Konnor has bagged himself a Lollipop though I’m surprised the candyman didn’t get in there first (ugh). We haven’t had half as many games, the hideaway is perma open and no one’s going in there. No real discussions or code words around how the relationships are going on the chemistry front. What’s going on?

Yeah thanks, but I don't need your patronisation.

I like to give people the benefit of the doubt before I jump in and label them as something.

Sorry, which bit is patronising?

If you prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt maybe you should reconsider your comments about Joey and Grace’s dad too. Or just accept that other people might see things differently to you.

Erm, this part?

I wouldn’t necessarily expect someone who is not familiar with racial undertones to spot it though.

You are telling me it happened but I'm not aware of it.

CellophaneFlower · 23/07/2024 10:16

Saying Grace's dad should have stuck up for his daughter who has been clearly bullied, is also not in the same league as saying someone spoke to somebody in a certain way due to the colour of their skin.

Sorry, I have assumed you are white and I don’t think it’s controversial to say that a white person might not spot racial undertones.
Apologies if you’re not. Your ethnicity doesn’t really matter though, I stand by the fact that I saw racist undertones in Joey, Sean and Jessy’s interaction with Josh and, unless I’m mistaken, a number of other posters saw it too.

I think it was very odd of Mimi to hide on the terrace waiting for Ayo and it definitely gave flirty / romantic vibes. I actually have gone off her based on that and how she acted afterwards.

I do think it's nice that Uma, Mimi and Jess and all been so nice to one another when in triangles with Ayo.

MooonDreamer · 23/07/2024 10:19

More importantly why is last night's episode not on ITVX!!

That’s odd, the episodes are usually up quickly. I watched it late but I recorded it and watched the recording rather than streaming from ITVX.

fairydust11 · 23/07/2024 10:21

@ElderPrice thanks, it really did sound like Mimi.

@BellesAndGraces I didn’t realise I thought it was his brother & sister.

@Picoloangel his cousin said he preferred Mimi to Jess if that’s what you missed, he thought Jess was too needy.

Catlord · 23/07/2024 10:29

Loved Ciaran's, Mimii's, Josh's and Reuben's family and Jessy's parents. So lovely. Reuben's Grandpa wasn't there in person but he's my favourite.

Also loved Jessy's mum sticking up for Grace. What a classy lady. Not impressed by Joey but conveyed it very tactfully. Reminded me of Maura's Mammy re Curtis. That was a masterclass in saying you can't stand your child's partner without saying it

I didn't think Grace' dad necessarily hit the exact tone intended with Joey but I understand he wouldn't have wanted to go in there and not say anything thing to the man being an arsehole to his daughter so I was glad he spoke up

I felt for Jess. Ayo's brother was a bit sneery (gorgeous sister). It looked like Ayo telling Jess what was said himself. Hopefully just in case the video comes up or something so she isn't blindsided.
I think neither Mimii nor Jess are a great fit for Ayo. I reckon he can see they're both in the very attractive 'maybe' category but not quite true love potential and he's just trying to be as kind as possible now with a view to things fizzling after. If he pings back to Mimii and listens to his brother, that's really silly and unfair to her as she caught genuine feelings. He'd know if he had real feelings for her.

BellesAndGraces · 23/07/2024 10:44

I thought this too and read his interaction with Joey as a warning, but of course Joey interpreted it as “well, even Grace’s dad likes me”. Jessy’s mum handled Joey perfectly.

Nicole’s parents clearly love Ciaran, but Ciaran’s mum seemed a tad cooler about Nicole. I would be too though, she might be a lovely girl but she is also a nutcase and I don’t always like the way she speaks to him.

Mover2024 · 23/07/2024 10:51

I think the way Jessy spoke to Joey definitely had racial undertones. She didn't speak to Joey with the same level of disrespect. She said to Josh "this is your problem" - why isn't she telling Joey his problem please? At the time of the Grafties I mean. She was very dismissive and condescending towards Josh and it was disgusting to watch. It came across as if she thought she was better than him.

Also, Joey and Sean are in a state of complete and utter disbelief that Josh would choose Mimii over Grace. Again, racial undertones there.

Mover2024 · 23/07/2024 10:52

@BellesAndGraces I agree - I think Ciaran could tell they weren't sold on her either as he kept asking them if they liked her even when they said yes

Agree with all of that.

Joey really thinks everyone is planet to his sun.
Ceirons mum less enthusiastic than Nicoles.

BlackStrayCat · 23/07/2024 10:55

I think there are absolutely no racial undertones whatsoever and it is an irresponsible thing and a very damaging thing to say.

Have you seen Jessy speak to anyone else with that level of venom and disrespect?

I didn’t think about racial undertones but I don’t like anyone who thinks they are better than anyone else. This puts me off Jessie . She has revealed she thinks she is what she always wanted to be . A bit of a princess.

She doesnt like her. She compromised her boyfriend and he was publically getting blamed (and embarrassing himself) and Mimi was sitting there letting it happen. Basically downplaying the whole thing. Jessie was sticking up for her boyfriend.

So no. Jessie doesnt like Mimi and I have my reservations too.

Nothing to do with her skin tone FFS.

Lampzade · 23/07/2024 11:20

To be honest, I have been a supporter of Jessy on this thread . In fact, I had just posted something nice about her before the incident with Josh
I am always reluctant to call a person’s behaviour ‘racist’ just because they disagree with someone who happens to be black
However, I honestly felt that there were racial undertones and couldn’t for the life of me understand why she went in on Josh the way she did . I felt quite uneasy tbh
I felt that Josh didn’t want to retaliate because a tall , black man arguing with a pretty , blonde white woman would have been an issue . I think he handled himself well

Mover2024 · 23/07/2024 11:23

@BlackStrayCat I didn't say Jessy was racist towards Mimii or didn't like her. I said that she was towards Josh. I didn't see her being rude to Mimii?

I agree with this too. Josh was clearly frustrated but was restrained when responding to Jessy.

Catlord · 23/07/2024 11:27

I agree Ciaran's mum seemed very sensible and at arm's length with Nicole. I don't think they've written her off completely but I'm sure will want to see how she is in real life before giving things the stamp of approval. Interesting his dad said they might have traits in common though!

I wasn't sure if it was perhaps she was actually more angry with Mimii but Mimii wouldn't be a particularly easy person to argue with?

Anyway, I shall rewatch as tbh I was focussing more on Mimii and hoping Josh realised the extent of what she was up to.

CellophaneFlower · 23/07/2024 11:36

I just don't agree with the idea that it was 3 white people going in on 2 black people for any other reason than the situation they were arguing about.

Joey will go in on anybody. Jessy has misguided loyalty towards Joey, so was sticking up for him and Sean is just a knobhead who would defend Joey against anyone. Not sure even Matilda would be safe in that scenario tbh. Sean is also desperate to be "right" about his idea that Mimii and Ayo still want to be together.

I am warming to Josh a bit slightly, but I still don't like the comment he made to Reuben a few eps ago and he is quite defensive.

Joey hates Reuben, so I did cringe when he tried to offer Joey good advice. If he did this on purpose to wind him up, it was genius 😂

CellophaneFlower · 23/07/2024 11:42

Also, I hope the other pp's are right and it was a warning from Grace's dad. If so, I just wish he'd have been a little less subtle. I hope he gave his hand an extra tight squeeze 😂
