I couldn’t see a new thread so thought I’d make one. Yup another boring one… Anyway looks like Konnor has bagged himself a Lollipop though I’m surprised the candyman didn’t get in there first (ugh). We haven’t had half as many games, the hideaway is perma open and no one’s going in there. No real discussions or code words around how the relationships are going on the chemistry front. What’s going on?

She wasnt racist towards Josh. She was frustrated because he was being gaslighted. She was trying to explain hie loyaly was misguided.

Agree with the racial undertones, particularly with Sean not getting his head around the fact that Josh chose Mimii over Grace.

I meant Joey... not sure if I put Josh though 😂 When he was telling him he had a good girl in Jessy and he came across really lovely. Joey just cut him off and told him he didn't need his advice and looked awful as usual. Clearly thinks he's so much better than Reuben when Reuben is worth 1000000 of him.

@CellophaneFlower agreed! I don't know if Joey thinks the way he speaks to people comes across well? The way he speaks to Grace is absolutely horrid and he just continues

Oh sorry, I get what you mean now. A few episodes ago, Josh told Reuben to shut the fuck up and stop getting involved, or something along those lines and it was totally uncalled for.

I didn’t pick up on Jessy being cross with Mimi. The later conversation between J and J whereJessy was completely exasperated that Joey couldn’t see that he had failed to keep the “secret mission” secret by telling everyone about it, I felt showed her sticking up for Mimi IMO.

I do feel the way she spoke to Josh was very uncomfortable and disrespectful whether it was unconscious bias or something more is debatable but either way it didn’t show Jessy in a good light.

I agree that Cairan’s Mum was definitely lukewarm re Nicole.

I don’t think Ayo’s brother/cousin was out of line in saying what he said. He was right to call Ayo out on his poor treatment of Mimi and it was refreshing to see someone say what they felt about compatibility with a partner. That said, he will only have seen what we have seen and there will be a lot of contact and interaction between A and J that won’t be apparent to us.

I agree with PP that neither Jess nor Mimi is a good fit for Ayo. I am surprised though by how much more animated Mimi is around Josh. Her family made that point too. I worry that Josh may be a bit controlling but on the other hand it might just be that the poor bloke has had to contend with constantly being told that Mimi’s head is elsewhere.

Yeah I’m pretty sure the male relative who came to see Ayo was his brother. They had mentioned it on aftersun earlier that he was going in and I think they had shown a clip of him saying what he said about Mimi being more compatible.

I felt that Josh didn’t want to retaliate because a tall , black man arguing with a pretty , blonde white woman would have been an issue . I think he handled himself well

You’re spot on @Lampzade irrespective of her motivations I felt he knew he couldn’t react towards her in a certain way and I felt bad for him. I understand Mimi is less confrontational and not criticising her staying more quiet as that’s her personality, but if that was me I’d have spoken up very robustly on behalf of Josh knowing he isn’t able to defend himself properly against her.

Agree with that bit. I just didn't think it was his place to say Ayo is better suited to Mimii. Ayo's a grown man. If my son brought a girl home for the first time, I wouldn't say "oh nice, but I prefer your ex".

Let's just hope he felt he couldn't blow his top at ANY woman, regardless of their colour or how pretty they are.

Yes... my point is perhaps he didn't feel he could as she's a woman, not as she's white and pretty.

He asked, first thing he asked "hows the sweets?" (or something) but meaning business.
They unenthusiastically said "fine".

And I, and others, are saying we think he had to be extra careful due to his race AND gender, and hers.

We can’t say for sure but it’s a pretty reasonable assessment of the situation.

There’s good reason for thinking that as many black men have reported being in this kind of situation and how they had to act given how they were /would be perceived and how the white women was perceived.

I think the jessy and josh thing stemmed from the pie task, josh didn't give a proper reason to pie her. Maybe this influenced her reasons to retaliate when he was questioning her partner instead of his own, after all it was his partners actions that caused it

I haven’t been on his social media pages so I hadn’t spotted that other people were saying similar stuff. I mentioned the racial undertones here because I don’t know anyone else who watches Love Island (other than my long suffering DH who disagrees about the racial tones) so to see that others might have caught the same vibes stops me feeling like I’m going insane to have felt that way too. We can all disagree about whether or not there are racial undertones because what we see is influenced by our personal experiences but it’s been good to see that I’m not the only person who sees racial undertones and my feelings about what’s been going on don’t exist in a vacuum.

Ayo's family were quite rude in that meeting and it was unnecessary to mention who they preferred, especially this close to the end.
It would be great if jess recoupled and won it but it's too late for that

Love island definitely isn't for my age group, I'm assuming their target audience is similar to the contestant age. I'm double some of their ages

I’ve just had a look at Joey’s insta page and he is getting a lot of vitriol. I think it’s fair to say he has behaved awfully but a hate mob undermines the message that his behaviour is abusive and instead allows him to sees himself as the victim.

In other news - why do you all think Joey is still so obsessed with Grace? I’m baffled by it. He never misses an opportunity to criticise/ demean/ antagonise or insult Grace. Why?!

He seems happy enough with Jessy. He was the one who moved on. I don’t get it unless it’s simply that he thought she was going to be heartbroken and is now annoyed that she isn’t. Or does he still like her?!

I don’t really warm to Grace - I don’t like her schadenfreude - but she’s handled herself brilliantly over Joey and comes across as classy and calm. I think I’d have snapped long ago! 😬

I agree with what you mean, I am loving this thread! It is great to discuss it all as we all have different perspectives.
