Actually those all seem to be reporting on the programme rather than reporting on the trial at the time. I guess it's like someone said, it's so common for women to get killed it's often not reported on

dapsnotplimsolls · 10/12/2024 17:59

I wondered if it was deliberate, maybe her parents sought some kind of injunction to stop it being reported on. We still don't know her name.

I think you’re right. Otherwise her name would have been aired in the programme.

BadgersGalore · 10/12/2024 20:17

I'm not sure you can get an injunction if the subject is dead, in the same way you can't libel the dead?

I wonder if he still hasn't been tried yet.

Lalgarh · 10/12/2024 20:49

Might be different rules on anonymity in the US

Hels20 · 10/12/2024 21:26

@BadgersGalore he has definitely been tried. Found guilty of murder and got 20 years.

Victoriawould24 · 10/12/2024 21:50

Who made the first call at the very beginning that said something like ‘ I won’t call them’ and a car was sent to an address for it ?
Also odd they called the episode Jane Doe or something but they actually established who she was very quickly and her mystery identity wasn’t a feature of the episode.
🤔

purpleme12 · 10/12/2024 21:54

I thought they just called her that because they never revealed her identity to us in the programme

ItsMintUpNorth · 10/12/2024 22:10

I think the anonymity / lack of reporting must be because they were foreign nationals and it could be blocked or something.

LemonVerbeena · 11/12/2024 13:28

The family may have requested anonymity if they didn't want their loved one to be the subject of a TV 'true crime' style documentary.
I had some dealings with Channel 4 news a few years ago in relation to a tragedy a friend of mine was involved in. They did a few special reports about it however they were very sensitive to the wishes of the families of the deceased. The producer told me they would not have gone ahead with the item if the families had not consented.
However there doesn't seem to be a single mention of this victim's name or coverage of the investigation or court case anywhere apart from some re-hashes of the programme itself. That is extremely unusual in a murder case, even if he pleaded guilty. It suggests that there may be court ordered anonymity for this victim and her family for some reason.

There's a new scam where people's HOMES can be stolen via identity fraud if they are working away from home , and apparently there is no formal redress, only compensation from the land registry. Banks barely now pay compy for id fraud so it may be unlikely

There was a programme about that on BBC sounds. 5 Ways they Get You.
People selling houses that don’t belong to them and there is nothing you can do!

TheDowagerCountessofPembroke · 12/12/2024 15:08

I just watched the Murder of Jane Doe. He was such a bullshitter. All this falling asleep and carrying on with the blanket over him looking for a book to read. Fake puppy dog eyes. I’d get too annoyed to try and interview him.
I was in the jury on a case of child abuse, the child in question was now in her 20s. The accused held up the entire court every day fannying about with a wheelchair that meant all sort of special provision had to be made. The judge told us one day that there was medical evidence that he didn’t need it and not to be swayed by him acting all needy.

At least her parents got there before she died.

"I’d get too annoyed to try and interview him."

I suspect,@TheDowagerCountessofPembroke, that the police have seen every sort of behaviour under the sun and have got to the point of being bored or amused by the attempts at manipulation. Same with judges & magistrates who must have seen and heard it all before. A couple of my uncles and an aunt were in the police force, it made them quite cynical, but they had some good stories to tell.

They have my admiration for how they deal with these really annoying people without losing patience. There was one a few years back about a woman who was trying to hire people to kill her ex. She spoke in a pathetic poorly voice and sent back all the food because it wasn’t gluten free vegan. Then had an attack of the vapors and ‘needed to go to hospital’ repeatedly. She was in the back of a car at one point wailing whenever the driver went over a speed bump, asking him to slow down. I’ve never wanted someone to drive faster and more erratically in my life.

That was annoying. She was pretending to be in agony. 🙄

That was a standout episode and one I think should be used for training social workers, police etc. I have met many people like her in my career and usually there are sad reasons for their behaviour like serious trauma in their past but it doesn’t make it any easier to cope with unfortunately however much of a ‘trauma informed approach’ you try and take.
I love your username 🤗.

Toddlerteaplease · 14/12/2024 13:00

She sent the food back and then asked for a sandwich. I don't know how the staff kept their cool.

Compelling episode. I found it interesting that he was diagnosed as a narcissistic, I think they said, psychopath. Controlling, manipulative, enjoying having power over others. The poor woman knew that it was all wrong when you read her texts, I felt sad that she couldn't somehow have not met him when he flew to the UK. But I guess there are cases when women escape these men but there wouldn't have been a programme about it.
Unbelievable that his partner was being resuscitated and he was asking the police for help with his diabetes.

Oreyt · 16/12/2024 09:14

Not blaming her but if she had moved house within the last few days I wonder why she gave him her new address.

Also her family had received the SOS thing from her phone a couple of times that night so I wonder why they didn't try to call her or the police? Otherwise egat is the point having it?

The police were sent out after the first call (made by Jane) weren't they. So what happened between then and the second call made by Jorge?

Also they went into the wrong block and then woke up other people. How did they get the address wrong?

Those few minutes could have changed the everything.

Poor woman seemed to have been let down.

May have been that he charmed previous flat mates into giving him her new address.

Wasn't it some converted type hostel with a few entrances? Like 2 wings? Easy in the dark to get the wrong one or not know there are 2 branches to the building.

They went in through the front door of the building, but their section was down a side alley.

Could he have tracked her somehow with her phone or fitted a tracker?

Also the police casually asking if they had Jorges phone.

The detective said oh not sure might have been taken off him In custody.

Wouldn't you get hold of that immediately to do the checks?

And they didn't even check the body cam footage at first where he admitted it.
