Just started watching Eric on Netflix. Benedict Cumberbatch is excellent. Subject matter dark.

I thought this was absolutely brilliant.

I also thought the use of the puppets was beautifully done.

I'm not sure what we are allowed to talk about here. I think I can say that at one point I was thinking that the ending was a hallucination. So we had to get right to the end credits for me to be sure.

a pp has referenced a practical issue that contributed to my confusion.

Arconialiving · 16/06/2024 21:49

Surely it's been out long enough now to properly talk about it @EmeraldRoulette? I've watched it all but have no idea what you're talking aboutGrin

EmeraldRoulette · 16/06/2024 21:52

@Arconialiving I thought the end might be Vincent imagining things while on drugs

I think it's all right to say that.

Did I miss what happened to Yusuf or was it intended that we will never know?

SocksAndTheCity · 16/06/2024 22:00

I also wanted to know what happened to Yusuf, @EmeraldRoulette . I think he was the only one missing from the epilogue montage, although I'm sure it was deliberate 🤔

Arconialiving · 16/06/2024 23:14

I didn't even consider that the ending wasn't real - his ex was heavily pregnant and his work partner killed himself so all seemed realistic enough to me.

iwantavuvezela · 16/06/2024 23:22

another one who loved this

FoneHomeET · 17/06/2024 09:18

Great soundtrack.
This was the second major Netflix series this year to feature Nico's These Days.
Bonus points for naming it

I thought the same as you re the hallucination

Finished watching this last night and thought it was excellent. Beyond the main storyline - the cruelty and ignorance around Aids was handled really well.
Acting was fabulous.
I loved the soundtrack particularly as I was a teenager in the 70's and loved 10cc whose "I'm not in love" was being listened to by Edgar in the first episode and then played out the last episode. Lead singer was Eric Stewart. I like to think Edgar was such a fan he chose that name because of Eric Stewart.

HRTQueen · 21/06/2024 14:09

This is excellent so far (just finished episode 2)

I love the little clues (or maybe not)

it’s very atmospheric it reminds me of the New York from Starsky & Hutch, Saturday Night Fever (both late 70’s), Fame before it was cleaned up

BC is excellent he reminds me of an actor I can’t think who it’s annoying me, even the way he alters his glasses maybe someone will know who it is

Noddedoffagain · 21/06/2024 18:03

Best thing I’ve seen since The Wire. Absolutely brilliant. Everything about it was brilliant. Loved the soundtrack. Really original writing. Captivating acting. Very talented group of people. Hope we see more from this combination - female creator and director and mostly female producers. Dark subject matters but not complete heavy watching.

FooFightersFan · 21/06/2024 22:23

I finished binging this today. I wasn’t sure if like it half way through the first episode, because Vincent & Cassie both seemed slightly unbearable, but I got hooked.

I particularly liked the references to, what I perceived, of going to ‘hell’ or hitting rock bottom: Edgar going to the maintenance guys basement to draw a then going underground, maybe because he was sad about his parents’ relationships and his own relationship with his dad. Vincent going underground and confronting his demons. Physically battling with his psyche.

my jaw hit the floor when we found out about Marlon.

Yes I was shocked when they showed what Marlon had been up to before his untimely end. Poor boy! How did he get mixed up in that seedy club Lux in the first place?!?

pasta · 27/06/2024 21:36

This didn't completely grip me but I loved the depiction of NY and I thought Gabby Hoffman was amazing.

CatMumSlave · 05/07/2024 07:06

@MattDamon

Benedict was a pleasure to watch, as usual. Anyone else spot Roy (Pam's boyfriend) from The Office (US version)? 😁

Oh god I wondered why I recognised him

CatMumSlave · 05/07/2024 07:38

I've just made a spoiler thread but noticed people are now talking about it.

😂😂

HaveAWordWithYerselfWouldYa · 10/07/2024 11:58

Am on Ep 3, cant get passed BC's character going to The Lux nightclub when his kid is missing!! Whatever nutter he is, this wouldn't happen

qwertyasdfgzxcv · 16/07/2024 22:20

Benedict's accents are phenomenal. He really is an outstanding actor. I've always liked him but my admiration is sky high

HaveAWordWithYerselfWouldYa · 17/07/2024 18:33

Yes, I agree about the accents. The one he did for Eric just sounded like it wasnt from his body! So deep and throaty

whinginglittlefucker · 28/07/2024 14:44

@FoneHomeET ha ha I'm a bit behind, Netflix like 'These days'One Day featured Nic's version. The Jackson Browne original is on the After Life Soundtrack.

Willthiswork78 · 25/08/2024 11:28

I've just binged this and I think it's one of the best things I've ever watched.

diddl · 04/10/2024 16:25

I've only just watched this.

I had the feeling that Edgar didn't quite feel comfortable with his Vincent so was hiding behind Eric.

Ledroit-fabulous!

Clarabell77 · 19/10/2024 20:40

Decided to watch this after reading the great reviews on here and felt compelled to warn others off. This is pure and utter drivel, strung out for longer than necessary, weak plot, holes everywhere, stereotypes galore and unlikeable characters throughout.

Can’t believe someone compared it to The Wire! Not a chance.
