I have just seen this in the newspaper. I am so excited, brand new host too.

Finally finished on catch-up. Glad to see Alex win GOTW, it was a much more coherent outfit than Luke's and reusing the original hems was a stroke of tactical genius.

For next year's RRR I'd love to see a "realistic transformation challenge". An off the peg/charity shop badly fitting item of clothing owned by a model simply refitted perfectly to them. Just for one week, no mad changes, a realistic length of time, and before and after to show the magical powers of altering a garment so that it fits properly. You couldn't do it all the time, because it wouldn't be the normal high impact telly, but I think as a one-off mid-series special it would be fine.

Have finished watching. I hate sewing Organza but i do kind of like the idea of using scraps to make quilted fabric. But. Bags that aren't lined need to have the seams bound, or at least finished. And that sort of bag really does need something to give it structure. Loved Pascha's hearts - some of them really did make good fabric choices.

transformation challenge? meh. that was just creating mess and waste for no good purpose. I really think that this week could have had a repair section - didn't they do that once? with visible and decorative repairs?

mtm - meh. Most of them were ugly. the 2 chaps in the bottom were the right choices (I'm not good with names) and i did love the use of the buttons on the waistcoat. (Unlike some i am not sentimental about my wedding outfit - but then it wasn't a posh, expensive dress) I loved the GOTW, and the one that was painted with the sponge (the lass in the Bell-tent-dress)

Agree it was Don's turn, will miss him, he had a lovely aura and was lovely. And i also agree that more time would be better.

I would much prefer them to have an extra 30mins so there was time to hem and finish. It would still be challenging to sew to a brief in a timescale, I don’t see why it has to be so time pressured.

I loved the information about Queen Victoria’s Honiton lace - as much a status symbol as her jewels.

I love the historical information bits with Amber Butchart - I'm torn between listening to what she's saying and admiring her style. She looks absolute perfection.

Have you seen her "A Stitch in Time" series. I'm pretty sure it's still available on You Tube.

It was fascinating - I hoped they would do another series (but they didn't 🙁)

You should watch , it was really interesting.

Oh - I hadn't realised you'd beaten me to it!

It's fabulous, isn't it?

Did Marcus have different colours in his transfo challenge because there weren't enough garments of 1 colour left unless you chose brown which Esme hates? I hate the way you have to be grabby to get the best stuff. They should just hand each person a pile

EvilRingahBitch · 12/06/2024 23:39

A wheelchair user in the Radio Times letters page has just suggested something I've been thinking for a while, that instead of doing yet another holiday/country/sport week they could do a disability adaptations week. It would require careful thought and sensory of course but I think it would be interesting and informative.

JessyCarr · 13/06/2024 02:25

Hope you don’t mind me joining in late. I can’t sew for toffee but love Sewing Bee. I am biased this year because I sort of know Pascha - or did when she was younger. So she is my favourite, but I think would have been anyway. Love to see a youngster with dressmaking skills.

Yes, I hate this too. So unfair.

I think that wouldn't work as choice of garments and fabrics is part of the challenge. It is not just about how well you sew but also your eye for colour, fabric suitability and design.

I've just rewatched and he says "They might say they aren't the same colour but I just chose the colours that leapt out to me" or something along those lines. It was a deliberate choice on his part.

I would imagine that they provide an appropriate amount of each possible colour.

pumbaasmiles · 13/06/2024 20:50

Just finished this weeks episode and I absolutely loved Alex's MTM dress. So pleased it won garment of the week. Luke's suit was bloody hideous!

2Rebecca · 14/06/2024 15:10

I thought they might provide enough of each colour but wondered if participants were limited in how many garments they could choose and some people might be greedy and choose all the yellow or pink garments. There are only so many colours. I'd be "everyone choose 2 then people can choose another 2 and the person who got last choice in round 1 gets first choice if they want more than 2 garments

Wilma55 · 15/06/2024 20:22

Do you think this bow is big enough for Esme?

DayIntarnishedarmour · 15/06/2024 23:44

Wilma. Not quite sure that would pass the Esme bow test. I mean it’s big but it’s not absolutely giant and obscuring half her body, so would probably need doubling to get the thumbs up from Esme. Beautiful elegant outfit though and great to see Catherine looking so well during the midst of chemo.

Are you a primary school teacher by any chance?!

2Rebecca · 16/06/2024 13:53

No. I just hate grabbiness and greed and show formats that encourage it, also sewing bee has all its diversity casting for colour and sexuality but still has "fastest person gets their choice" bunfights. I'm a GP so probably work more with people with disabilities due to illness or age.

SoupDragon · 16/06/2024 16:52

It's not "grabbiness and greed" at all though. It is all very good natured.

Wolfcub · 18/06/2024 21:02

Evening all

SoupDragon · 18/06/2024 21:04

India Week is a new one isn't it?

Binglebong · 18/06/2024 21:04

Hello hello.

Binglebong · 18/06/2024 21:05

Yes but they have had (I think) African and japan week previously.

Brefugee · 18/06/2024 21:06

Not entirely sure about this.
I am shit hot at Welt pockets now so I'd fancy my chances with a Nehru jacket

SoupDragon · 18/06/2024 21:07

I predict that this is going to be a shit show!

Binglebong · 18/06/2024 21:07

I love Nehru jackets. Would wear one if i could.
