This will be my 12th Doctor. I’m a big Doctor Who fan. Happy memories of Sat with my dad watching cyber men and darleks.
But what the hell has happened? I’ve just finished, well I managed 25 mins, before I couldn’t take it anymore the 1st episode with the new Doctor and sidekick. Awful acting with a ludicrous plot (yes I know it’s fantasy) but it’s never been this stupid. Can’t help but think the BBC aren’t bothered and think they can put out anything and we’ll watch. Russell T Davies should have his pens taken off him and spare us anymore pain.

I can’t be the only Doctor Who fan who thinks like this. Absolutely Gutted 😞

It’s a two parter , I think we will have answers next week

PuttingDownRoots · 15/06/2024 17:57

Glad we watched that early, that would have been nightmare material before bed!

KomproMatilda · 15/06/2024 17:59

Well!!!

Second viewing (so I could enjoy it with my Ma (who was obviously there when I first watched in 1963, and when her grandchild first watched Christopher Ecclestone reach out to save Billie Piper).

So much better second time around!

AprilPoisson · 15/06/2024 19:36

Can we discuss it yet?

ladyflower23 · 15/06/2024 19:55

I've just watched! Thought it was really exciting and was also quite scared 😱
Still not 100% believing Ncuti as the Dr but maybe I just need to spend more time with him. Think that was the best episode of this series 👌

PuttingDownRoots · 15/06/2024 19:58

How long, in Earth time, is this supposed to be after the bi-generation?

zump · 15/06/2024 19:59

Don't see why not - it's finished isn't it?

I enjoyed this episode more than some of the others. Always love Kate and the Doctor was better in this too.

Mrs Flood said "there's a storm coming". I still think Flood has to be linked to River and/or the Ponds. Ruby has snow (frozen water) and the Doctor keeps crying: loads of links to water everywhere, so I'll be disappointed if this is a red herring. Do we think that Susan is River's child?

The woman in the hood looks so like The Traitors, I'd love it to be Claudia Winkleman 😅

KomproMatilda · 15/06/2024 20:16

More likely to be Davina McCall!

zump · 15/06/2024 20:19

Oh, is Davina in The Traitors too? (I've only seen one episode.)

SheilaFentiman · 15/06/2024 20:27

@PuttingDownRoots Rose was 16 and at school in The Giggle. So I would say 3-5 years… except UNIT employed a blinking 13 year old genius!

PuttingDownRoots · 15/06/2024 20:32

That was sort of my point @SheilaFentiman... Rose didn't actually seem mature enough to be working in a responsible position. She was acting like a school girl, running off giggling holding hands.

motheronthedancefloor · 15/06/2024 20:37

did anyone else notice the RUBY in the dogs head?

I'd also love a connection to the Ponds / River. The name 'Mrs Flood' has no other meaning that makes sense. And she knows what a Tardis is. OMG what if she's grown up Amy???? Cause Amy went back in time didn't she??

It would be absolutely hilarious if Ruby's mum turned out to be Claudia Winkleman 😂

Loving Anita Dobson in this, she's brilliant, and can't wait to find out who Mrs Flood really is. I love the Ponds so would love it if she was connected to them in some way.

Oh sorry!!

Rose said something about Donna being on another floor so I would be tempted to say it was bring your DD to work day… except Rose seemed to be taking a pretty active role!

ElleLeopine · 15/06/2024 20:51

It's going to be interesting to see how the Doctor resolves everything next week. I did think that all the tech did a lot of the heavy lifting in this episode.

SheilaFentiman · 15/06/2024 21:30

I’m annoyed by child prodigy Morris AND by Rose, tbh. Who would put a 13 year old on a frontline desk in unit, no matter how brainy?

OccasionalHope · 15/06/2024 21:39

I think Rose must be a few years older now, closer to the age of the actor.

I loved this episode.

PuttingDownRoots · 15/06/2024 21:42

I think it could have worked with it being Rises first day or doing shadowing in various departments to learn the ropes.
But its a minor quibble... I like UNIT bringing the old companions together.

I'm pleased that I stuck with it after Soace Babies as its definitely improved over the series.

UrsulaBelle · 15/06/2024 21:45

Fab episode. Love that the voice of Sutekh is the same actor as in 1975. He’s now 91 but still does a great scary voice. He also voiced the Beast in Satan’s Pit.

I reckon Mrs Flood is a time Lord of some sort. She said she’d been hiding away, which is what the Doctor said Time Lords sometimes do with new faces. So maybe the Master or the Rani?

InMySpareTime · 15/06/2024 22:05

Why did "only essential staff" include Maurice? (a child) and Rose (who has only been sent on inconsequential postings so far), and Ruby (a civilian)? Was there anyone less essential than those three?

I noticed NG was wearing two necklaces, and one had a Ruby in it.

To meIt was very much like Charlie and the chocolate factory with Willy Wonka or Ghostbusters with it's effects

SheilaFentiman · 15/06/2024 09:21

Is anyone going to watch the finale in a cinema?

I am.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 15/06/2024 22:19

I liked that episode. Really quite scary.

As a Mrs Flood theory: Sutekh is from the Egyptian god Seth / Set, who is mentioned as the anagram solves itself. Seth murdered his brother Osiris and his wife Isis crys enough to cause the Nile to flood. Some kind of tie in with that is possible. Still not sure if she is good or bad and I don't want anyone linked to Amy and River to be bad.

I was raging about the safeguarding failures of a highly risky military group employing a 13 year old boy! Totally inappropriately.

PinkFrogss · 15/06/2024 22:20

In one of the specials last year Rose was crocheting (?) alien toys and selling them to a collector. I wonder if that plot point will be relevant next episode.

Would love for Mrs Flood to be related to the Ponds!

SheilaFentiman · 15/06/2024 22:29

Martin Belam is also worried about teenage labour 😀
