This will be my 12th Doctor. I’m a big Doctor Who fan. Happy memories of Sat with my dad watching cyber men and darleks.
But what the hell has happened? I’ve just finished, well I managed 25 mins, before I couldn’t take it anymore the 1st episode with the new Doctor and sidekick. Awful acting with a ludicrous plot (yes I know it’s fantasy) but it’s never been this stupid. Can’t help but think the BBC aren’t bothered and think they can put out anything and we’ll watch. Russell T Davies should have his pens taken off him and spare us anymore pain.

I can’t be the only Doctor Who fan who thinks like this. Absolutely Gutted 😞

Can remember so many 'Uh oh, you pissed him off, now you're in trouble!' moments from Eccleston, Tennant, Smith and Capaldi.

Matt Smith standing alone surrounded by all of his enemies at once and telling them to DARE try it was hair-raisingly epic.

Ncuti (and I sorry to say it but Jodie too) just don't seem to have those moments. I don't think it is the actors necessarily, but the writing definitely doesn't help.

Ncuti's doctor hasn't even saved or solved anything by himself so far. He has displayed pretty much the opposite characteristics of the doctor for me. Fear instead of courage. Following instead of leading. Crying instead of resolve

Letting his emotions run wild when the doctor could never do this because worlds would BURN when he got angry.

Yes, I think they made JW's doctor a bit thick. She always seemed to be bumbling about, clueless.
NG also isn't coming across as on top of things - stepping on land mines, fairy circles, Rogue's trap. There's lots of running and leaving poor Ruby to get on with it by herself. I do like him though, hope he grows into his potential.

I found him pretty impressive when he was warning of what would happen if the mine blew him up in Boom! Beautifully calm under pressure.

I thought JW was written and played like a ditzy little girl though she did get dark moments or moments of gravitas but unlike some of the other cast she couldn't pull them off.

Ruby does seem to be doing more of the grown up figuring stuff out bit partly I think due to NG being so absent in series though all I've seen so far is fun flirty doctor haven't really seen him walk into situations and just be in charge.

IMO the landmine he seem more scared and less in control than previous Doctors - more emotional less analytical. He doesn't feel old and smart and charming with a dark don't fuck with me vibe when he gets angry - maybe that's coming maybe that not what they want the doctor to be now.

I think the 'dark vibe' was supposed to be left with Fourteen (Ten Reboot) to heal from all the genocide and what not. Back to the madman in a box, but crazy-fun not crazy-twisted...

While the modern reboot with ninth doctor leaned heavily into the dark vibe I thought it pre-existed from some of the earliest Doctors.

I very much agree with this assessment - these characteristics along with huge curiosity carried though all generations - they were the doctor.

I don't know it's suddenly going to slot back into place with big ending or if it's the modern classic don't actually want to write this character and show so I'll change it and then blame fans when they stop watching.

I saw an interesting analysis on She-fi: ladies who love sci-fi on Facebook (good group - check it out!). I've stolen it here as i think they had already nicked it so I can't credit it to it's author. Not sure I agree with it and I only watched a bit of Capaldi and hardly any of JW but it does give good talking points.

Just watched The Legend of Ruby Sunday …

I’ve just watched this week’s episode… I’m not RTDs biggest fan by a long chalk and I’ve not really enjoyed this series other than 73 Yards, but I loved this week’s episode. Bloody cliffhanger though! I’ll be counting the minutes til next week now. Just hope it all wraps up nicely next week… First time I thought Ncuti really felt like the Doctor.

I agree, but I personally make a point of not even looking at this thread until I have seen the episode. Today I watched first thing, but sometimes I don't have time until much later in the evening.
