This will be my 12th Doctor. I’m a big Doctor Who fan. Happy memories of Sat with my dad watching cyber men and darleks.
But what the hell has happened? I’ve just finished, well I managed 25 mins, before I couldn’t take it anymore the 1st episode with the new Doctor and sidekick. Awful acting with a ludicrous plot (yes I know it’s fantasy) but it’s never been this stupid. Can’t help but think the BBC aren’t bothered and think they can put out anything and we’ll watch. Russell T Davies should have his pens taken off him and spare us anymore pain.

I can’t be the only Doctor Who fan who thinks like this. Absolutely Gutted 😞

I'm betting Rogue is The Master.

The Ring will be significant.

Binglebong · 10/06/2024 20:50

Interesting....

Can anyone tell me who Rouge played in Glee? I keep seeing it referenced but don't recognise him.

JaninaDuszejko · 10/06/2024 20:52

Jesse

@AprilPoisson @Rummikub @Treaclewell

I am the least observant person and never pick up in these type of themes. Didn't notice a single blue rectangle in 73 yards either. But I love your observation and think you might be onto something. Eiyher that, or you are better at patterns than the showrunners! Have added in ones for the rest of this full series. I don't remember back as far as the Christmas special.

  1. Space babies
[ ] Ruby steps on a butterfly
  1. The devil's chord
[ ] There's always a twist at the end - dance steps. Also potentially a reference to Susan Twist, although she is Susan Triad in episode 7
  1. Boom
[ ] Doctor steps on a landmine
  1. 73 yards
[ ] Doctor steps through fairy circle
  1. Dot and bubble
[ ] Lindy learns to step without instructions?
  1. Rogue
[ ] Doctor steps into Rogue's trap forcefield [ ] Rogue steps into the trap field to push Ruby out
KomproMatilda · 10/06/2024 21:24

Fabulous, @SprigatitoYouAndIKnow!

Rummikub · 10/06/2024 22:02

Stepping into/onto does seem like a theme.

ladyflower23 · 10/06/2024 23:13

My list is:

  1. 73 Yards
  2. Boom
  3. Dot and Bubble
  4. Rogue
  5. Devil's Chord
  6. Space Babies

Have found this series hit and miss but season finale looks promising!

Rummikub · 11/06/2024 01:51

I'll be amazed if we don't end up with a Jollyolidaymarypoppins Step in time song at some point then! Wink

Me neither bingle, he was recurring/lead of Vocal Adrenaline

Enjoy!

He looks so young there. God, I used to love Glee. Haven't revisited it in years because of all the real life tragedies/Mark Salling tainting it for me.

@AprilPoisson

Yes, Glee completely tainted for me also

RedYellowPinkGreenPurpleOrangeBlue · 11/06/2024 19:38

I've give it a few episodes now, and sadly, I have to say...

I'm done. I have no interest in it anymore.

Same. I've really tried. It just isn't Dr Who any more for me.

It perhaps doesn't help that I recently started a rewatch of the Tennant/Smith years and the difference is just too glaring. Who at its best has majesty and tragedy and depth and warmth and fear and happiness and humour and grief and in those years, also Capaldi's, it has it in spades

This series has none of that, it just plays with those big things briefly, if it bothers at all, and moves on.
.
Part of the problem is finding the right Doctor, and that of course is subjective, but I found both JW and Ncuti very miscast.

zump · 12/06/2024 08:43

I'm still watching, but I'm not buying into Ncuti's portrayal of the Doctor. It's disappointing but he always seems bewildered and what's with the crying all the time? I think he's cried in every single episode so far.

I want the Doctor to be highly intelligent and in charge of the situation. Ncuti looks like he doesn't really know what's going on.

Agree with this. I was really excited about Ncuti''s casting when it was announced and because of this, I started watching again this season - after drifting away over the last couple of seasons or so.

But his portrayal is all very vulnerable and I'm finding it a bit disconcerting, tbh.

PuttingDownRoots · 12/06/2024 09:17

It feels like hrs hardly be in it this season. And hardly ever with Ruby... they're separate.
But was that filing conflicts with all his other stuff (Barbie, Sex Education, and Masters of the Air looking at his Filmography?)

I like him when he's on screen though. I think it does take a while to adjust to a new Doctor. I hated Capaldi at first but he really grew on ne.

SheilaFentiman · 12/06/2024 09:21

Deffo some conflicts - that led to 73 Yards being dr-lite.

SheilaFentiman · 12/06/2024 09:22

i wonder if there will be a tear/melting snowflake connection in the finale

TripleDaisySummer · 12/06/2024 10:14

what's with the crying all the time? I think he's cried in every single episode so far.

I think there must be some overarching reason for it - not least because some reviews are quoting RTD as saying it's because gen z aren't afraid of emotions and emote more.

However that sound like misdirection because there are more emotions than constant tears and my own teens are that generation and don't constantly cry and would be irritated by implication they do.

ABirdsEyeView · 12/06/2024 10:21

I think NG is basically still Eric from Sex Ed but with less sex.

Beamur · 12/06/2024 10:27

I'm loving the new series having not really watched since David Tennant. DD liked JW though despite the shocking stories. NG is as ever, charming and magnetic on screen.

KomproMatilda · 12/06/2024 10:34

@Beamur - watch the Matt Smith era, for him and for the story arc Steven Moffat created around his companions. Honestly life enhancing.

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 12/06/2024 11:39

Yes, you definitely need to watch the Matt Smith ones!!

beguilingeyes · 12/06/2024 11:59

I came to Nu Who asked a previous Eccleston fan, loved his Doctor. Couldn't bear Tennant...which makes me a minority, I know but Matt Smith swiftly became my absolute favourite Doctor. Such an old soul in a young body
Plus I loved the Ponds and River. Couldn't stand Clara though, but still.

SugarPlumFairyCakes · 12/06/2024 13:59

I've tried, I really have. Loved Dr. Who since Tom Baker, have the DVD's of the original series's, also happily re-watch Chris Eccleston onwards. Hated Timeless Child story arc and Jodie's companions, but persevered, like Ncuti as an actor.....but actually fell asleep during Rogue. Have never ever done that before ...even made it through Space Babies (albeit with a WTF is this expression throughout). DC's have no interest in watching at all now. So disappointed, but I think I'm out
