Doctor Who

This will be my 12th Doctor. I’m a big Doctor Who fan. Happy memories of Sat with my dad watching cyber men and darleks.
But what the hell has happened? I’ve just finished, well I managed 25 mins, before I couldn’t take it anymore the 1st episode with the new Doctor and sidekick. Awful acting with a ludicrous plot (yes I know it’s fantasy) but it’s never been this stupid. Can’t help but think the BBC aren’t bothered and think they can put out anything and we’ll watch. Russell T Davies should have his pens taken off him and spare us anymore pain.

I can’t be the only Doctor Who fan who thinks like this. Absolutely Gutted 😞

AprilPoisson My DS was really surprised by the snog. He said 'I don't care that they're blokes, but he's married!

😂😂really good point

PuttingDownRoots · 09/06/2024 23:31

DD did not like the kissing either. She doesn't like the doctor having relationships.

Rummikub · 10/06/2024 00:03

From
unleashed it seems there was a lot of chemistry that made ncuti giddy 😀

Neither the Doctor nor River Song interpreted their marriage as one of monogamy. Pay attention to banter as the ship is crashing during the Husbands of River Song. They are both calling one another out for other relationships, but neither of them are really upset. They could just as easily be arguing about what to have for dinner or who left the lights on in the combination swimming pool/library.

SheilaFentiman · 10/06/2024 00:19

Also… River is dead. She’s really dead. She’s been dead for years.

13 lasted a good couple of decades and River never met 13. Plus the Bill series for 12, after THoRS, added some more years.

This

the bill series had 12 mourning River. That is why he had Missy locked up in the vault. It was why he was holding still and teaching.

13 showed some signs of moving on, but still held back from experience loss again.

SheilaFentiman · 10/06/2024 07:24

Yy. Thirteen was more or less in love with Yas, and the point of the bi-generation was to shed the exhaustion and guilt of the doctor which held him/her back from joy and fun and whatnot.

KomproMatilda · 10/06/2024 08:29

God that was all so miserable and unbelievable … (13 + Yas.)

Treaclewell · 10/06/2024 08:33

For the confusion of two tall Byronic guys (though I see I wasn't alone) I'll blame the injection in an eyeball last Wednesday from which it had not wholly recovered. The other eyeball is more or less permanently fuzzy in the crucial recognition part of the retina.

KomproMatilda · 10/06/2024 09:15

Oh goodness! I hope the injection eventually proves as effective as possible, @Treaclewell.

(Less importantly, has your opinion of the episode changed now you’ve un-mixed the characters, or do you maintain a fundamental objection to the storytelling?)

SheilaFentiman · 10/06/2024 09:19

I think I would have also got confused, if i didn’t already know Jonathan Groff

  1. rogue
  2. 73 yards
  3. devil’s chord
  4. boom
  5. dot and bubble
  6. space babies

Nearly the same as mine which would be

Rogue
73 Yards
Devils Chord
Dot and Bubble
Boom.
Space Babies

Paul Forman and Jonathan Groff are both tall, dark and handsome but not interchangeable.

Paul played Lord Barton, a baddie (cad) killed by the alien at the start.
Jonathan played Rogue, the bounty hunter pursuing the alien.

I think they are both hot but as a past review stated, Ncuti's lipsync was absolute filth ! Grin I may have revisited that part more than is seemly.

Was that where he wouldn't switch Kylie off when he was showing what his "screwdriver" could do?
The singing and wink? Yeah love that bit 😁

The problem with that was Yas was dull as ditchwater and the actress who played her was not very good.

SheilaFentiman · 10/06/2024 09:59

I liked Yas. Broadly speaking, Chibnall did a bad job of show running for 13, IMO.

I meant in the context of the Doctor getting over River, though.

He's kind of singing and hip wiggling along and gives Rogue a little wink as Rogue's trying to snatch the screwdriver off the Doctor 🙂

😂Thanks for the clip!

it is still good.

They looked like they had a lot of fun with it too!

SheilaFentiman · 10/06/2024 12:03

Ohhhh, you are welcome ;-)

GirlOfThe70s · 10/06/2024 13:11

Just to add something about the race in Regency England comments, I don't watch Bridgerton, but was watching BBC breakfast news this morning and a black actor was on talking about the new series and his role in it. He said his character is based on a real-life, well-known black man who had a successful career, first as a boxer and then as a boxing promoter in Regency times.

SheilaFentiman · 10/06/2024 12:03

Had another watch 😀
might become my go to if I require cheering up

JaninaDuszejko · 10/06/2024 13:29

@GirlOfThe70s that would be Bill Richmond. In Bridgerton the equivalent character is William Mondrich, one of the few characters who is not a member of the aristocracy at the start of the show.

MrsToddsShortcut · 10/06/2024 16:18

I actually think my DS might have forgotten that River Song is technically dead, as she died in the very first episode she appeared in.

I grew up (over) analysing films like Terminator in a 'but does this make sense?' way but he hasn't. He's autistic but very literal so I think in his mind, because she appeared so often in subsequent series, that she was just alive.

Great point about the bi-regeneration and 14 walking away leaving 15 to start fresh - I shall point this out to him.

Anyway, never mind Jonathan Groff - I was so pleased to see Indira Varma again - she's one of my favourite actresses.
