This will be my 12th Doctor. I’m a big Doctor Who fan. Happy memories of Sat with my dad watching cyber men and darleks.
But what the hell has happened? I’ve just finished, well I managed 25 mins, before I couldn’t take it anymore the 1st episode with the new Doctor and sidekick. Awful acting with a ludicrous plot (yes I know it’s fantasy) but it’s never been this stupid. Can’t help but think the BBC aren’t bothered and think they can put out anything and we’ll watch. Russell T Davies should have his pens taken off him and spare us anymore pain.

I can’t be the only Doctor Who fan who thinks like this. Absolutely Gutted 😞

I think this might be in the wrong place 🙂

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 03/06/2024 15:13

Yeah I'm confused too lol

Treaclewell · 03/06/2024 15:18

A poster said there isn't any logical reason for skin colour prejudice, but there was in the Middle Ages. Peasants were dark of skin through having worked outside, and nasty things were written about them. The blue bloods stayed indoors so their veins looked blue through whigte skins. It's easy to evolve the more extreme racism from a basic premise like that.
Nobody trod on anything this week. (Or did Lindy when navigating sans Bubble?)
I expected more of Ricky after seeing his name in Radio Times. Same class of naming as Ruby (and I always get a reminder of the Stones with her!)

Rummikub · 03/06/2024 15:21

Is that how blue blood started?

“I expected more of Ricky after seeing his name in Radio Times. Same class of naming as Ruby (and I always get a reminder of the Stones with her!)”

ooh, good point!

I thought RS looked like a young Bowie.

I wonder if Ruby’s birth surname will start with a C when we find out!

MissTrip82 · 04/06/2024 07:18

Really enjoyed this episode. Well-directed.

I don’t love that we’ve had two episodes with minimal doctor when it’s a short series though. I want to see more of NG.

PuttingDownRoots · 04/06/2024 09:22

I liked that episode.
I thought all the residents looked very similar... pale skin, hair colour, even the eyes. Ruby could fit in... the Doctor was complete opposite. So the racism wasn't a complete surprise.
Being stuck with your head in social media seemed very cautionary. I don't understand how they can forget how to walk though...

Definitely need more doctor though!

motheronthedancefloor · 04/06/2024 09:55

Is "mummy" everyone's mummy? like a creator?

KomproMatilda · 04/06/2024 10:07

Fantastic thought, @motheronthedancefloor!

Maybe not a creator but like Jocelyn becoming Nanny to all the Space Babies? Only by design - a pre-recorded message for all the Finetime youth?

Laughingravy · 04/06/2024 10:14

To me main story was a sort of allegory on how our youth are getting so totally drawn into in an artificial digital world, at the whim of influencers and often almost devoid of curiosity and free thinking. A warning if you like. The 16 yo in this house is all over Youtube and online gaming but 'Let me Google that for you' is a constant refrain when he asks for answers to the simplest of questions or wants to know how to boil an egg.

The racism was, for me, something of a side bar and it could just be interpreted as total mistrust of those outside the bubble. How Ruby approached Lindy was much more in keeping with Finetime users, so familiar enough for her to listen. And yes her face fitted. It would work regardless of which Doctor it was.

So I was given to understand.

motheronthedancefloor · 04/06/2024 10:18

and "gone to the sky" - not another word for 'heaven' but something else?

Is she The Master / Missy?

Edited

Ooh, yes, great idea @motheronthedancefloor

Susan Twist's age came up on screen and it was 62. I got excited but then I realised Dr Who turns 61 on 22 Nov so that's not it :D

interesting!

Pastelbuttercream · 07/06/2024 18:23

I’ve just rewatched the Van Gogh episode. I found the ending really raw and emotional, shed more than a few tears. Anyone else?

SheilaFentiman · 07/06/2024 18:28

Oh that’s is beautiful. As is The Doctor’s Wife

PuttingDownRoots · 07/06/2024 18:31

DD hasjust made it to Family of Blood. I'm feeling a bit teary already!

BritishBeatleMania · 07/06/2024 18:41

I’m on The Fires of Pompeii. I forgot who quickly you whizz through DT’s companions when you’re binge watching!

Think that double episode has to be my up there with my favourite evers.
Brilliant.

KomproMatilda · 07/06/2024 21:17

It was a bit splendid. Especially the ways he found to punish and contain them.

Very tempted to watch the new episode at midnight tonight …

GardenMusings · 07/06/2024 21:32

Oooh does it literally come out at midnight?!
