This will be my 12th Doctor. I’m a big Doctor Who fan. Happy memories of Sat with my dad watching cyber men and darleks.
But what the hell has happened? I’ve just finished, well I managed 25 mins, before I couldn’t take it anymore the 1st episode with the new Doctor and sidekick. Awful acting with a ludicrous plot (yes I know it’s fantasy) but it’s never been this stupid. Can’t help but think the BBC aren’t bothered and think they can put out anything and we’ll watch. Russell T Davies should have his pens taken off him and spare us anymore pain.

I can’t be the only Doctor Who fan who thinks like this. Absolutely Gutted 😞

Just rewatched The Girl in the Fireplace and I notice Moffat has MdeP die at 43 when Wikipedia says 42.

<taps nose>

Tardis
Rummikub · 25/05/2024 00:11

Who is MdeP?

Pixiesgirl · 25/05/2024 03:16

Bah didn't like this one either, don't like either of the leads, wooden plus Ncuti looked liked a boden model. Story didn't make sense or have a decent ending. God's sake, no TV to look forward to.

Madame du pompudor @Rummikub i think (hated that ep too) I did enjoy

Pixiesgirl · 25/05/2024 03:18

*this program I swear haha

Rummikub · 25/05/2024 04:36

@Pixiesgirl thsnkntou
off to google.

I think one if my favourite episodes was about the origins of the cyber men. Where there was a ward full of them saying “pain” repeatedly. Disturbing though.

Rummikub · 25/05/2024 04:37

^thank you^

SheilaFentiman · 25/05/2024 06:28

Yes, Mme de Pompadour

KomproMatilda · 25/05/2024 06:35

Shall I watch Ep 4 now or is it worth saving till this evening for the broadcast?

Foggyfield · 25/05/2024 07:40

Really mixed feelings on episode 4.

Loved the setting in the beginning. Briefly thought it may become a favourite episode.

All fell apart though in the second half, weird politics thrown in again that didn't fit with the episodes theme at all, and quite a few plot holes. Certainly wouldn't rewatch which is a shame.

Dc wandered off again before it started, seemed to have completely lost interest after episode 2. They raptly sat and watched the majority of new who with us previously.
They did ask if we can all watch the Matt Smiths seasons again together instead though.

KomproMatilda · 25/05/2024 07:57

Grin I spent part of yesterday rewatching The Doctor’s Wife, (skipped The Rebel Flesh because I’ve always found it too scary,) The Almost People, and A Good Man Goes To War. The end of The Almost People is etched in my mind for all time - and A Good Man Goes To War is so incredibly rich with wit and reference and humour and horror - it stands up to comparison with any great sci fi film. Of course that was a Moffat episode - I’m sadly learning to lower my expectations for new era RTD so am prepared to be disappointed later.

Cheesecake53 · 25/05/2024 09:34

I quite liked episode 4.

AprilPoisson · 25/05/2024 11:23

Me too. I missed Ncuti but the episode followed other stand-alones whereby Millie Gibson got to display her acting chops.
I haven't been enthralled by her thus far, so it was good to see what she can do.
Only annoying part of the episode was not knowing what was being whispered to each person.

TripleDaisySummer · 25/05/2024 12:56

Lots of unaddressed threads just left - though companion can act.

I didn't like the pub scene as it seem to hit every prejudiced trope my FIL comes out with against the welsh - price gouging -£5 for a coke - , hostile massive chip on shoulders - (only thing missed was them switching form English to Welsh in spite Hmm) which is not my experience. Even as a young woman with an obvious none Brit co-student doing fields work over hills in north wales locals very quickly started checking up and looking out for us.

It seemed very similar idea to Donna Noble turn left episode though not as good.

On DC didn't want to watch - other did but wasn't impressed.

Susan Twist - there must be a big thing coming and the neighbour again -Mrs Flood. It was much better than first two but that's a low bar to jump over.

PuttingDownRoots · 25/05/2024 17:06

For DD (11yo) who is working her way through the Whoniverse... has anyone watched the spin off "Class" and knows if it would be suitable for her? I've watched 15 minutes, heard one swear word. She doesn't mind a bit of peril. (But doesn't like "relationship" sort of stuff).

Binglebong · 25/05/2024 17:09

Sarah Jane adventures would be.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 25/05/2024 18:16

I really enjoyed that

A real throwback to The Girl Who Waited and Rory.

Spoilers were mentioned - either a callback to River or she can be expected

Ponderingwindow · 25/05/2024 18:31

Hated episode 4. There was no science. There was no explanation. We were supposed to believe in magic.

JewelleryCat · 25/05/2024 19:04

I’m watching episode 4 now, finding it quite boring

KomproMatilda · 25/05/2024 19:40

So …

That was one of the most magnificent things I’ve ever seen.

There was a point where I applauded.

I may cry later.

My God. It was extraordinary.

Thank you Mr Moffat. I feel blessed to have seen that.

Gunnersforthecup · 25/05/2024 19:43

I thought there were interesting elements to that, but I agree it would have been better if there were an alternative explanation for the particular timey wimey stuff that was more... scientific.

Samcro · 25/05/2024 19:48

Please can someone explain what that was about

KomproMatilda · 25/05/2024 19:55

I don’t think it needed extraneous ‘science’. I’m assuming we will eventually come to understand how it coheres with the rest of that particular story. (Trying not to spoil!)

It’s because it’s that character - and the TARDIS - that things happen. As in, it could only be them.

I loved every second. And believed it all.

(I see what you mean about the similarity to TGWW, @EineReiseDurchDieZeit - but it didn’t give me the same feeling. I’ve never stopped feeling devastated for Amy, whereas this left me filled with hope.)

SoupDragon · 25/05/2024 19:56

I really enjoyed it.

BananaSpanner · 25/05/2024 19:56

I thought the lack of explanation about what was being whispered was poor.
Why would she send her own mum away? What would that achieve?
Where did the doctor go?
I feel I should know this but who was Marty and what was her relevance?

Annoying.
