This will be my 12th Doctor. I’m a big Doctor Who fan. Happy memories of Sat with my dad watching cyber men and darleks.
But what the hell has happened? I’ve just finished, well I managed 25 mins, before I couldn’t take it anymore the 1st episode with the new Doctor and sidekick. Awful acting with a ludicrous plot (yes I know it’s fantasy) but it’s never been this stupid. Can’t help but think the BBC aren’t bothered and think they can put out anything and we’ll watch. Russell T Davies should have his pens taken off him and spare us anymore pain.

I can’t be the only Doctor Who fan who thinks like this. Absolutely Gutted 😞

TBF, Moffat has openly admitted the debt to TTTW. Nifenegger name checked The Girl in the Fireplace in Her Fearful Symmetry and of course Moffat hid a Tardis key in a copy of TTTW in Listen.

I will have to watch that episode again now!

Jenny is also out there, and I bet Georgia Tennant would be up for a return.

I really hate the fact that the Time Lords have been wiped out again without having a good modern era vein of Time Lord stories. Not just the Master.

PuttingDownRoots · 22/05/2024 09:15

An episode where Jenny, Clara and Me all meet the Doctor would be interesting.

Sorry what's TTTW?

But look at the sweet married couple bickering in this Neil Gaiman extra...

How have I never seen that before. I love Eleven and River.
RTD has written It's A Sin recently so he obviously still has it...I'm hoping it gets better from here in. S1 started off with some pretty shaky stuff. I'm not entirely convinced by either of the leads yet.

thecatsthecats · 22/05/2024 12:47

I love River and 11 too, but River and 12 was surprisingly sweet too. In spite of her bravura, River had some tender lines.

"You don't expect a sunset to admire you back."
"When one is in love with an ageless God, one tries not to show the damage."

The Husbands of River Song is one of my favourite episodes ❤️

Yes! I loved River and am surprised there's so much anti-River feeling! she worked well with DT AND MS for me. I always saw her as a convincing love/companion for the Doctor.

So far am unconvinced with the new season but the next episode, 73 Yards? looks intriguing,

SheilaFentiman · 22/05/2024 23:21

River and 12 are beautiful, so poignant.

MissTrip82 · 23/05/2024 00:24

Quite enjoyed Boom. Ncuti was excellent.

This series has a lot of potential I think. I was disappointed by Jodie’s doctor but otherwise have enjoyed all of the doctors of the modern era.

beguilingeyes · 23/05/2024 07:23

The Husband's Of River Song is a work of art. I could watch it on a loop. That scene where she realises who he is....sigh....

SheilaFentiman · 23/05/2024 07:44

Yes!

It’s a moment of calm, they have finally met at the same point in time for them both. Twelve honestly looks at River with love, whilst Eleven was often trying to get away from the inevitability or was posturing in ignorance of their full history. In a way that was true Eleven, but must have been difficult for River.

PuttingDownRoots · 23/05/2024 08:32

I'm glad they got their night on Delirium together, pretty much at the same point in their stories together.

I love how incredulous 12 is that she doesn't realise who he is, and then that simple, understated 'hello Sweetie '

MercyDulb0ttle · 23/05/2024 10:22

Aneurin Barnard is in it soon. He’d make an awesome Doctor.

KomproMatilda · 23/05/2024 10:39

He looks very Hollywood!

(But I guess after Jodie and Ncuti the Doctor might revert to being male and Caucasian for the next thousand years …)

Macbeff · 23/05/2024 12:56

Very excited about this week’s episode after reading some spoiler free reviews.

The chemistry between them is perfect. I loved this episode so much.
Adored Alex Kingston from the get go. River was my favourite character throughout.

The Last Night on Darillium | The Husbands of River Song | Doctor Who

There are stories that suggest the very last night the Doctor and River spend together are at The Singing Towers of Darillium but will they live happily ever...

I am now thinking back to the Library episodes. How hard it was for River to realise that the Doctor had no idea of who she was and what they would share together! But she knew that it was her time and she gave her life for him!
And the Doctor, going from not knowing a thing about her, to being devastated at her loss.
Really, this has got to be the most incredible, beautiful story arc ever!
