Anyone wanna join in with the pre-screening goss and hype?

Me first… SJP has posted her run through nameplate on insta. But so has this actor - a rumoured love interest for Miranda? What do we think?

Did she? I only recall that storyline for Samantha.

In early episodes, there was some queer coding in terms of how she dressed. She has also occasionally fought to overturn power imbalances (I think at work). She also has a same sex experience when she was growing up, a kiss I think.

Oh right so not dressing in a stereotypically female way and wanting equality at work means you’re gay now does it?

It can do.

greengreyblue · 29/05/2025 09:03

The point I was trying to make is that Miranda’s character was super sharp and funny in SATC regardless of her sexual orientation. The storyline in AJLT was not credible and she became a bad friend , wife and mother. Not because she changed sexual orientation but because of those things.

CharlotteRumpling · 29/05/2025 09:17

I had a problem with the ageism. The way all the younger people were oh so competent and confident, while Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte bumbled around like Rip Van Winkle.

55 -year-old Manhattan women know how to shut off their iphones, make podcasts and talk to black people without making fools of themselves.

westisbest1982 · 29/05/2025 09:26

I think that after decades of heterosexual relationships, Miranda became understandably vulnerable exploring the latent side of her self with Che, so I do understand to an extent why she became a lovesick puppy type. But it never rang true for me she let the adoration of Che go on for as long as she did.

I’m new to Now TV. What time will the series drop tomorrow?

I don’t know I’m afraid but I do recall Previously Now TV dropped it a bit later in the day than Sky.

There's a whole episode in the first series which covers people thinking Miranda is gay, and her being quite clear that she isn't. She then has another interaction in a later series which leads her to say she isn't gay. None of that means that she can't develop feelings for women later in life but the show explicitly looks at the way society reads her (wrongly at the time) as gay on a surface level.

Fighting to overturn power imbalances doesn't make someone gay.

Fighting to overturn power imbalances doesn't make someone gay.

I could say that about a million things. Besides, Cynthia Nixon said as much.

This was my recollection - Miranda being labelled because she had a career and had (shock, horror) short hair. If there was ‘coding’ in how she dressed it went over my head because she just looked like all of us working in an office environment in the nineties!

She wore quite a few ‘masculine’ outfits, unusual in the late 90s and early 00s.

I'm not sure what point you're making about a million things? I am really hacked off at how many things are being labelled as 'queer' rather than rebellion or feminism or activism or damn cussedness. I have not one ounce of homophobia in me but it feels like social history is being distorted into a weird narrative right now where every social movement is being merged into one.

Cynthia Nixon is one person whose own story is to a large extent being played out by Miranda. It doesn't mean that the original series always planned for her character to do this. It means that back in series one it was saying that a woman wasn't gay just because of what she wore or presented herself, and now, in what feels like a retrograde step to me, we are being told that actually of course she was all along. Straight women have long hair and simper at men obviously - we should have known all along.

It really wasn't that unusual. Trousers suits and waistcoats? They were fashionable.

I really don’t recall any ‘masculine’ outfits that Miranda wore at all. And clompy shoes were certainly de rigeur. I think I can safely say I dressed like Miranda at work and was a mix of Carrie/Samantha for going out in the 90’s and early 00’s.

She was a power dressing lawyer in the 90s which was in contrast to the others in more art / creative/ media based jobs.

Yep. I had short hair with a long fringe swept behind my ear. Clumpy loafers, colourful blazers, opaque tights.

That was Carrie being playful about being 'best man' for Stanford, so totally different to the point I've made about Miranda.

i hope John Corbett decides to bring his silver fox look for this season. Waaay better than the clean shaven Botox’d tighty-whitie ozempic look. And how fabulous does Bo Derek (his wife) look these days? She’s nearly 70..

sorry for the DM link but I can’t pretend I don’t read it 😂

Oh god he's looks amazing like that (a touch of the Jon Bon Jovi's) 😍Bo Derek has always been stunning, bone structure goes a long way & I'm glad they're still together

Netaporter · 29/05/2025 08:07

I don’t think she was ruined for turning gay - after all becoming a late life lesbian is a common occurrence these days - including Cynthia Nixon herself. I think she was ruined by being so cruel to Steve and for suddenly becoming a lap dog girl friend. Miranda was always attractive because of her assertiveness in life and her career. And she was kind - to Steve’s mum, Steve and Brady. The remarkable turn around in her character just didn’t ring true to me.

I think you're spot on there in fairness, she turned into a wet wipe with Che & that was disappointing, she used to be hardcore

I always had a soft spot for Steve so I was sad when she left him, I understand the rut but still...

You seem to have created a fixed narrative that suits your own life experience perhaps and can’t see anything else . Meanwhile, I’m looking forward to the whole show.

Scorchio84 · 30/05/2025 06:53

I watched it! Don't worry not even a tiny utterance of a spoiler...

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/05/2025 07:23
