Anyone wanna join in with the pre-screening goss and hype?

Me first… SJP has posted her run through nameplate on insta. But so has this actor - a rumoured love interest for Miranda? What do we think?

She’s not my idea of a feminist either @Holluschickie

I just feel a little disappointed that SATC was touted at its launch, as groundbreaking, with women rewriting the rules on sexual politics. It feels like Samantha and Miranda became successful in their fields, and were fiercely independent, but Carrie needed a Big or a Petrovsky to give her the lifestyle she craved.
I’d have loved to see her become successful in film, (but Matthew Mcconaughey ruined it for her) 😂

greengreyblue · 11/06/2025 07:45

Carrie has been successful- a column, books and a podcast. I’d take that.

Doubleraspberry · 11/06/2025 08:01

I heard an estimate on the value of house at around $20m. That’s not coming from book sales! (The floor plan posted above is just a part of a townhouse, for $5m.)

westisbest1982 · 11/06/2025 08:04

It was always one of the more ridiculous aspects of SATC that Carrie could afford to live in that house in that part of Manhattan when she earned not that much.

Lottapianos · 11/06/2025 09:17

'Harry is also bothering me. Yes, he used to embarrass Charlotte when they met but he was sharp, funny and had a bit of swagger. Now he's a doddery guy who acts as if he hadn't been out in public before'

I agree. The character should be much more substantial than he is. They had Steve acting like a 90 year old in season one as well!

PurplebeadedFendi · 11/06/2025 09:27

Just like Monica's apartment in Friends, Carrie's apartment was subject to statutory rent control, which meant these incredible properties had low/affordable/capped rents. Carrie's apartment went "co-op", meaning that the landlords were selling off the apartments into private ownership, the existing tenants being given first dibs, with the apartment owners sharing the freehold and the rights over/responsibility for the common parts - the co-op*. Aiden bought the apartment as Carrie couldn't afford it, as well as the one next door. And then, as we know, she had to buy it off him when they split, using Charlotte's ring money as a downpayment, because she of course was constantly broke. The part I am amazed at is that she managed to pay her mortgage, but I suppose she got her job at Vogue and the book deal not long after becoming a home owner. The shoe shopping didn't stop though!

*(You see these co-ops in action in scenes with Miranda, when Dr Robert applied to buy the apartment in her building, and Samantha, when one of her late night assignations lets in someone who attacks her neighbour).

MonkeyTennis34 · 11/06/2025 15:00

What exactly is Aiden doing in Virginia that might take 5 years??

ILoveBrum · 11/06/2025 15:07

Waiting until his son has finished school @MonkeyTennis34

Carrie is massively successful - agreed that Big’s money is what had made her uber-wealthy but she’s still an extremely successful writer and marrying a rich man isn’t unusual (in her NYC circles).

I've been pondering Carrie too. Miranda was the big obvious character change in S1 and 2 (not just becoming a lesbian but her actual personality). She is clearly becoming more Miranda like again now.

But Carrie is the disappointment. She was always selfish, fickle and self absorbed but now seems to be a caricature. I have a feeling she is closer to what SJP is in real life now. The carefully curated lady of 'culture' living in a huge NY townhouse with a cat.

I would love it if she cheats on Aidan on with the hot gardener though. Who I think is Trey from the OC?

They also shouldn't have written Big out of it completely. It's so odd. He was the absolute love of her love, her husband, and now she acts as if he never existed. It's so unrealistic. And I don't think Aidan would be comfortable living in a house bought with Big's money.

I googled what Big would approximately be worth once and it was circa 50m they reckon.

Harry is also bothering me. Yes, he used to embarrass Charlotte when they met but he was sharp, funny and had a bit of swagger. Now he's a doddery guy who acts as if he hadn't been out in public before. Not a tough NY, infighter lawyer.

I'm a die hard SATC fan. However bad it gets, I don't think I'll ever stop watching it! I first watched it on paramount in 1998 when I was 16 - I've absolutely grown up with it! It's good to get it all of my chest!

I completely agree. What have they done to Harry, he was so sharp, witty and pretty smooth. He just seems like a buffoon. Like you though I will never stop watching, I have been a fan from the beginning and need to see how it ends.

It's crazy how the scene from the film when Carrie asked big to touch himself was quite sexy compared to that train wreck scene with Aiden in the first episode this season.

She has Big’s inheritance. NY had rent control up until recently so many apartments were a ‘freakin’ steal’ according to Chandler Bing. 😂

I don’t know why I said house, I meant the apartment in the show in the west village, but I remember the logical story of how she paid for it thanks to the explanation from @PurplebeadedFendi

Her apartment was rent controlled - just like the one in friends - so affordable. She only decided to buy because Aidan wanted to.

She had to buy because her building went co-op so if she didn't buy she would have had to move out. Aidan just had the money to buy when she didn't!

Yes I recall - I think the comment was more about how she was there in the first place. Then she realised she’d spent the equivalent of a deposit on shoes. At the time, I realised I’d done the same 😂

She sold bestselling books (multiple) but regardless, I’m not saying she was rich like Big, just that she did earn her own money too. Anyway, she’s a rich widow - why wouldn’t she spend / enjoy it as she’s entitled
to that money!

Of course, but for me it throws a new light on her relationship with someone who treated her appallingly for the best part of a decade.

It’s also fine to earn enough money for the life you want just….yourself. Then you can marry whomever you like,

Crikeyalmighty · 12/06/2025 10:11

@westisbest1982 I had a friend around 1998 who had a very nice large 1 bed flat just off portobello road ( housing association) - not your typical thing either- nice Georgian conversion - these things did exist and were somewhat easier to get than they are now as a youngish single woman - how times have changed

Holluschickie · 12/06/2025 10:12

I dont think Carrie would be as interested in Aiden if he wasn't now rich.Though he seems remarkably tight-fisted as well.

Carriedoesntlivehereanymore · 12/06/2025 11:34

I think spending all Big’s money as his widow would have been fine, if she hadn’t decided he was a ‘big mistake’. It kind of trashes what they had and all those years of build up and I wish the writers had not put that line in to justify her taking up with Aidan again. She could find love again without erasing however many years of her life!

I totally agree. And I doubt very much that Big would have begrudged Carrie getting together with Aidan. This is all about Carrie and her need for constant worship from the "one true love." She can't get it into her head that love might come at different times from different people, and that if it ends, it wasn't a waste of time but a journey that ended before she starts on the next one. I'm pretty sure Aidan doesn't think his time with Kathy (and his kids) were a waste of time, and he would be awful if he did.

PurplebeadedFendi · 12/06/2025 11:44

It's pretty funny how a few of us know so much about NY rental issues from watching Friends! Actually, I am pretty sure in the LA episode of SATC, Miranda made a snarky reference to her friend (the one who chewed his steak but didn't swallow) writing for a NY based sit com where the characters lived in a huge and impossibly cheap apartment.

TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack · 12/06/2025 14:17

I was expecting to hate this and didn't. But!

Aiden scene in the car, ewww and eww, get me some bleach! He licked his hand as well, it was horrible

Miranda is more believable this time because she's working as a lawyer and seems less of a sap

The Charlotte dog story was pointless, just why? Who cares? And why don't we see more of Harry? I love Harry.

Love Anthony and "it's ballet not Grindr"

I loved Carrie's dress at the beginning and the lovely house. I reckon she's going to be torn between the hot young gardener and Aiden.

Ah at Lily in love. And wtf re the tutor, would they really go to those lengths? Someone from NYC will be along now to tell me that yes, they would!

Lisa is so beautiful and I like her storyline. I wonder if Michelle Obama will do a cameo?

I'd love more Seema too, she's fabulous, the matchmaker woman can fk off putting her in pastels
