Anyone wanna join in with the pre-screening goss and hype?

Me first… SJP has posted her run through nameplate on insta. But so has this actor - a rumoured love interest for Miranda? What do we think?

It's pretty funny how a few of us know so much about NY rental issues from watching Friends! Actually, I am pretty sure in the LA episode of SATC, Miranda made a snarky reference to her friend (the one who chewed his steak but didn't swallow) writing for a NY based sit com where the characters lived in a huge and impossibly cheap apartment.

Yes she did, I re-watched the LA episodes last week!

PurplebeadedFendi · 01/06/2025 13:01

I agree.

I am continually confused about where Miranda's money went. Given that she made partner early in the SATC series (series 2 I think), she'd have been a fairly senior equity partner by the start of the movies and easily on 7 figures by the time she left her first firm in Movie 2. Granted she moved to another firm that was a bit more friendly at the end of the second movie, but I doubt she took too much of a salary hit.

Miranda had a lovely Manhattan apartment for years and probably made a lot of money on the sale, even if she had a mortgage, They bought the house in Brooklyn quite a few years before the area really took off and house prices soared. Never sold it/upgraded, Steve did all the work on it - as he yelled at her in the last series! Had the house for at least 17 years. I would be amazed if it had a mortgage or anything other than a very small mortgage when they sold it. I would have hoped she'd have put in place all the necessary legal measures to protect her equity on divorce, since Steve appears to have paid in zero (name not on the mortgage), as well as having a decent pre-nup in place.

Steve's bar was financed by Aiden, and there's no suggestion Miranda sank any money into it. For that matter, where did all Steve's money go?18-20 years of running a successful Manhattan bar - he must have made something.

One child. presumably privately educated. Not at college, so no funds spent there. Granted they had to pay for Magda's salary for years and Mary's care fees at the end. But still, that's not going to burn through a top lawyer's equity share to the extent that they are struggling for money. I don't understand how they ended up in a position where Miranda was having to sofa surf post Che, and is now living in a Airbnb and not buying a place of her own.

I love this analysis! Surely she's got some money. They should explain it I feel!

Scorchio84 · 12/06/2025 15:40

YES!!! & the sale from their now gentrified Brooklyn gaff must have been astronomical so even if the proceeds from her apartment sale went satright into their family home she & Steve would still be quids in? Plus Steve has that new Coney Island place on "the shore" was that used with equity from "Scout" or his proceeds from the family home sale?

I'm totally going back to watch the L.A. episodes later after the boss goes to bed thanks @Carriedoesntlivehereanymore 👠💅

Doubleraspberry · 12/06/2025 15:44

Are we meant to see her as the only financially relatable lead? Because (other than Nya and, eventually, Che, both now gone) everyone else in this series is unimaginably wealthy.

I heard a good analysis during the first series on one reason why the reboot didn't hit home enough. They've introduced 'diversity by numbers' (this was from someone young and diverse themselves) which doesn't feel authentic but centre the entire thing round the extremely rich, so how do they really feel they are really representing how people lead their lives better this time round?

Love your tag name.
However, Carrie NEVER wears nail polish. I noticed for a long while that we never got shots of SJP’s hands and when we did …no nail polish.
I’m really not that obsessed…..

God you don't get much for your money in NYC do you? It's horrible inside!

TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack · 12/06/2025 16:02

@PurplebeadedFendi I don't think Carrie was ever a very nice friend. She demanded they lend her money after spending all hers on shoes, she sent Aiden to help Miranda when she fell and was naked on the bathroom floor and she always prioritised men over her girlfriends.

TheSecondMrsCampbellBlack · 12/06/2025 16:10

I love the fact that all of the die hard SATC fans on here are really invested in the details, like WHY doesn't Miranda have any money and how Carrie couldn't have afforded her original apartment (rent control, we all know)

I don't like Carrie deciding Big wasn't the love of her life after all, he absolutely was, all of us who watched for years and years know it.

I reckon that was a "cancel Chris Noth" move

Yes, I think you are right. But they obviously saw something in her, allowing their worlds to revolve around hers, and she was occasionally supportive and she was, I suppose, fun. But she made her living off writing about them, and she judged them all in a way she demanded not to be judged. And she was an utter bitch many a time. To Charlotte in particular over her post divorce wealth and in both the movies (laughing at her toilet mishap in Mexico like a frat boy, being horrible to her when she clearly had PND in movie 2).

Not only could Carrie have not afforded her apartment, she could not have afforded any of her clothes, shoes and bags! Writing a weekly column in some minor NY tabloid, I'm surprised she could afford food!

I read that series 1 of AJLT was supposed to include a lot more of Chris Noth in flashback/ghost form, but they had to cut all that out when he was cancelled. I do actually think it's sort of in her character to devalue her time with Big Devaluation is a big part of narcissistic personalities and also part of the cheater's script. She has to justify what she did to Aiden, and she's sort of shifting the blame onto Big rather than accepting her own decisions. I think in her mind, Aiden will never be anything other than 2nd best in real terms, and she can't accept that, so she needs to devalue Big to allow Aiden to "win".

She really wasn't you're right! I thought it was "funny" when she fell while running down to her alarm she fell & rang Miranda.. Miranda should have sent Steve if she still had have had that option

That was a shitty, amongst many shitty things Carrie did over the years

We ALWAYS got shots of Carrie’s hands! Remember all those impassioned hand-to-chest gestures? I loved that short, non-painted look.

I knew I’d find a thread on here, I hope I can join you. I gave up on AJLT the first time after a couple of episodes but after chatting to a mate I gave it another go and binge watched it all and am now hooked.
Im now rewatching SATC from the start while I wait for the next episode to come out. The difference between season one of this and the new version is so apparent.
When did SATC stop doing the thing where Carrie ‘breaks the fourth wall’ and looks at the camera to talk to the viewers? I’m enjoying that in SATC season 1 but can’t remember it lasting too long. I wonder what she’d be saying if it was still happening now.
Looking forward to seeing what you all have to say tomorrow - I’m quite an early riser so will probably watch the latest episode before I go to work in the morning

greengreyblue · 12/06/2025 20:10

Think that stopped by series 2 . I’d forgotten about it but I rewatched all of SATC before AJLT series 1 came out and found it a bit cringe to have Carrie talking to me.

CowTown · 12/06/2025 21:31

Series 1 of SATC was very experimental—they filmed the whole season before the first episode aired, which meant that they had no idea how it would be received. The fourth wall/talking directly to the camera never happened after season 1. The same fate with the quick “man on the street” interviews with the character’s name/age/profession labelled on the screen as they gave their opinion, ie “Dan, 32, Investment Banker”.

And because nobody knew who they were yet (no episodes had aired), there were no connections yet with fashion designers, so they were unable to borrow any designer brands, and certainly couldn’t afford to buy much with their costume budget during their pilot season.

The episode with the lamp turning on; the cuts were really obvious. At one point, alone in her apartment, she snaps ‘this isn’t healthy’, as though she’s talking to someone. It looked like an obvious place for a flashback or Big apparition.

rereturner · 12/06/2025 21:54

Yes I’m further in to season 1 and the fourth wall has vanished now but I kind of liked the rawness of the first episodes plus the ‘man on the street’ stuff (Is Skipper the only character who appeared in those?). I’m enjoying re-watching them though and fully ready for next ep of AJLT v soon

This has been discussed loads on Reddit too, but it's never been said on the show that Miranda doesn't have any money. She stayed with Nya because her apartment was so close to the campus and Miranda was exhausted moving between Che's flat and her place in Brooklyn. She's currently in a NY Airbnb so clearly has plenty of money for that!
My guess is Miranda will get a new place later in the series now her life is more settled. In the last two years she's quit work, become a student, split with Steve and become a later life lesbian, moved to LA, moved back to NY, fast tracked at Human Rights Watch and had easily cured alcoholism. Not rushing to buy a flat when her life has been changing so much is the most sensible thing she could do.

CowTown · 13/06/2025 06:45

I had a flashback to when Carrie went to Cali on her book tour to follow Big.

S 3 Episode 3 review

Generally wasn’t loving this week’s. I want the writing to be at wk1 standard (minus any palm -licking antics)

Fashion notes
LTW and Seema win again this week with some very stylish wear. Charlotte also got some decent outfits. Loved Carrie’s silk/watercolour print kaftan (off to google) and this week SJP has a beautiful tan and some really great hair. Miranda has better outfits too.

Storyline
It seemed like a bit of a ‘setting up’ episode for Carrie. And I’m now annoyed about why Carrie is pandering to the massive manchild - who appears to be controlling his kids too - surely at least two of them are adults yet he can’t tell them his GF is staying over? WTF? Also, it is clear he does not approve of meds for Wyatt - what about a thank you to Carrie?

Loved Ryan Serhant cameo and Seema’s storyline. Plus do we think she’s going to visit ‘the home of the whopper’? 😂

Anthony had some poor material to work with this week. As did poor Harry (although I did love ‘we’re committing Harry-Carrie’ ) I mean - a grown man pissing himself? Unless this is foreshadowing Harry having prostate cancer, it was pretty lame tbh.

Glad Miranda looks like she might be getting a decent love interest - but got a feeling it’ll be a twisty storyline.

Not sure what they were doing with LTW? They made her look like a spoilt child. Who seriously can afford to take 8 years to make a documentary without a rich partner ? And why would she assume Grace could too?

The cars didn’t get great storylines either - A brown S class would be the kiss of death on the forecourt - one which has been smoked in would be utterly unsaleable and I can’t unsee the truck as anything other than ‘the wanktruck’ 😂

On the upside, Shoe lives on to see another day with a new rather fancy scratching post.

I’m now off to glam up for a photo to renew my drivers licence because it expires this month 😉

Interesting theory re Big/Aiden.
Why was Chris North cancelled?
Unrelated, but I think he and Kristen Davies were a couple for a while?
Charlotte has always been my favourite…love her clothes, her hair…not so keen on the current tweakments!
