As we truly don't know what went on ,I just don't think it's warranted to drag someone you don't know on Mumsnet.
Personally not I thing I'd do as I have a conscience and I'm not party to what happened, but each to their own 🤷🏼‍♀️

and yet you have very clearly called Michelle a bully on Mumsnet. 🤷🏻‍♀️

SoupDragon · 01/05/2024 12:26

Domnall and Francesca should both have gone home for that monstrosity of a cafe.

Soukmyfalafel · 01/05/2024 12:31

I like Michelle, I think it is the makers of the programme trying to coordinate the programme to flow in a certain way, and whoever that is giving the final contract that is the issue. They have too much influence on the result and choose people to go on the show because they are 'wacky' and dress like chimney sweeps, clowns and Cleopatra. I'm torn, because yes it's entertaining to see the wacky ideas, but equally it's frustrating to see people leave early when they have potential. I didn't dislike any contestants and I like that (generally) they all get on. If it began to get bitchy just for entertainment value I'd switch off. It needs to be more about the design.

This. We were all very supportive of Domhall at the time and there was much discussion about whose fault the teeny school chairs were. The banquette height tho was clearly Francesca’s mistake so IMO they were equally culpable and should both have gone. I struggle to keep quiet for the sake of sparing someone who would rather not witness conflict but it did seem like Domhall did not get to say what he wanted to say and was eliminated because he called out something none of us got to hear. If he had just left it there I think we would all be wishing him well. However, the timing of the post of the poem coincided with the week he was eliminated combined with the fact that it was a thinly-disguised incoherent ramble about the judge(s).

You are right @PippaJas none of us know him personally but we are allowed an opinion about his actions post-programme. I don’t watch Marvel so if there was a link, I wouldn’t have ‘got’ it. As was pointed out to Ben (who came on the first thread to specifically tell us all off for having an opinion) If you put yourself on national telly in a reality tv competition which involves taste and style you are inviting people to have an opinion about you.

You know what , I know when to stop.
Sometimes people don't see eye to eye.
Twisting one's words to get a set outcome has never really been my style.
I can't really say anything to stop the hate which is disheartening but if you want to continue that way on your head be it x

GrouchyKiwi · 01/05/2024 12:56

I don't understand when criticising someone's behaviour became "hate". Seems to be the way of things these days.

Domnall would have stayed over Francesca if he'd shown any culpability for his own actions. Francesca put up her hands and owned her mistakes; Domnall just blamed it all on Fran (and didn't even accept that the bonkers chair shelf on the wall was a terrible idea). If you don't own your errors you don't grow, so I felt it was the right decision. He's hardly covered himself in glory with his thinly-veiled insults on Instagram (talking specifically of the poem and caricature, not anything else). Whatever went on that we didn't see due to editing that was highly unprofessional.

Anyway. I have been reflecting on the two lodges last night. I agree that Matt shouldn't have bothered with filling in the grooves (though I get why he did) as he didn't have the time for that; the dark hallway wasn't very welcoming (I didn't realise that you had to walk into that until the judges came to visit!); and his sofa didn't work. These are things that come with experience.

Roisin just needed to use paint instead of wallpaper on the ceilings (and tone down that yellow) and I'd have loved what she did.

I can't find her line at La Redoute. Does anyone have a link? My google fu is apparently weak today.

I, too, like Michelle as a judge. She’s very considered which I appreciate.

I would have loved to have seen Anthony's designs for those lodges. Such a pity he didn't make the final.

JaninaDuszejko · 01/05/2024 11:58

I have to say I think the lodges at Blenheim they had to decorate were not that impressive, I wouldn't want to stay in them. They were much smaller than any other holiday lodge that has been decorated on this programme which didn't give the designers much to play with. There was only one place the sofa, bed, dining table could go so it became all about the decoration. Both Matt and Roisin chose a 2 seater sofa because the space was so small.

Also, this was filmed last summer but Sophie Robinson's collection with Harlequin was released on 1st Aug so I wonder if the contestants on IDMs get access to new collections before they are released or did Roisin just buy up everything as soon as it came out? All the wallpaper and lots of her fabrics in the lodge were from that collection.

I think you’ve nailed it re the space. Something about the final and series felt a bit off to me and it’s the layout side. That’s designing is it not? Choosing where to put furniture or adding a funky bar area in the lodge (I’m sure past series someone did one) etc etc. There seemed to be no option for any layout changes in the final especially. Everything had its (small!) place and they just needed to decorate around it. Sure Matt added some period columns and panelling but he couldn’t switch up layout of rooms etc. it very much feel like interior decorators program!

I agree that Roisin was choose as she best fitted the “prize” rather than the other way around. It’s a strange prize as well. I know interior designers do ranges but surely a newbie needs to design spaces not plates first?

I liked them both in terms of them seeming nice and hope both so well. Roisin was too flashy pattern colourful for me (prob ably on trend but I’m def not!) and Matts I really liked his style but always felt a little flat when shown the end program. I hope they both have good careers ahead of them though.

@GrouchyKiwi in case you didn't find it: https://www.laredoute.co.uk/brnd/la-redoute-interieurs-x-roisin-quinn.aspx?brndid=la-redoute-interieurs-x-roisin-quinn

(I'm quite grateful to Roisin because) I have now discovered that La Redoute do decent length casual tablecloths. It wouldn't have dawned on me to look for them here.

I’m loving the fact you have more than one category of tablecloth in your home tbf 😂

Doesn’t everyone? I have tablecloths for the summerhouse, tablecloths for afternoon tea and some for more formal eating…and I’m serious!😂

Oh yes. And lovely cloth napkins, I get lots of table cloths etc from them.

OutOfTheHouse · 01/05/2024 16:38

Like I said before though. Roisin was very good at buying stuff and putting it together, but that is a long way from designing wallpaper. It’s a completely different skill set.

Wasn't going to reply to this because as I said twisting one's words to fit a predetermined narrative is not something I enjoy engaging in.
But actually I was just stating a fact, didn't accuse anyone of anything like the rest of this thread has been at .Someone brought up Instagram and I simply mentioned the comments that are there for the public to see and were also rehashed in a recent news publication so it's no secret.I like to have all the facts available before commenting on something.

But as I said before, we don't know what happened so how can we judge people that we don't know based on one view.
If you don't like it that's up to personal opinion and that's totally fine.
Just like I think dragging a person's personality and declaring them as something when you don't know them is harsh. Again, I wouldn't want it done on me so I wouldn't do it to someone else.
I personally think there's a whole lot more going on that we aren't seeing but that's my own opinion.

LadyEloise1 · 01/05/2024 16:59

Interesting that Roisin's La Redoute (very small ) range has a velvet throw.
She very specifically said ".....I love velvet...." on the show last night.

I'm so glad she changed the curtains in the living room.
The ones she used were criticised by the judges but the ones she had initially planned to use were so much worse.
I'd love to know where her own dresses are from. There was one in particular last night that was lovely.

There was something in Matt's living room that I felt didn't work. I can't put my finger on it.
I couldn't believe how the flexes from the lamps were so visible and destroyed the look also.

Neither holiday chalet were to my liking.
It's a pity Anthony didn't get a chance.
Can you imagine what Ben's theatrical chalet might have looked like ?

Lampslights · 01/05/2024 17:00

That la Redoute range isn’t great, looks quite cheap so a bit tacky, don’t think they invested heavily in it. And she was heavily restricted .

in this I think matt ‘s more paired down style would have worked better.

Thanks madcats. Also good to know about tablecloths. You can never have too many. (My cupboard disagrees.)

Madcats · 01/05/2024 18:03

For those being rude about La Redoute quality, is that furniture or linen (be it table cloths or bedding)?

My tablecloth supply is dwindling but I think I have:
Damask (inherited from parents)
Christmas
Linen (but I've managed to shrink it, so a 3m replacement is tempting)
PVC coated cotton from teen's weaning years
Plastic from kiddy birthday parties
And an a couple of runners

Roisin's patterns would have been great on picnicware or T towels/trays/mugs.

JaninaDuszejko · 01/05/2024 18:38

I've not bought any furniture from La Redoute but I've bought bedlinen. The choice of patterns is good but I thought the fabric was quite thin in comparison to places like The White Company or John Lewis, very soft though. The biggest issue was the size of the opening to get the double duvet in though, it takes forever because the opening is far too small.

Theedgeoftheabyss · 01/05/2024 19:03

I think it bears wondering whether Matt was supported in his time management. Dyslexia is a very really impairment and it makes me wonder if he'd been able to flourish with a little practical support in making sure he could finish. I really felt for him.
