Watching on catch up as always. Yikes, no harm to Roisin who seems lovely but I hated nearly everything about her lodge. So oppressive and migraine-inducing. Stop wallpapering ceilings ffs. Matt’s was beautiful- not perfect maybe, but so much better for the context. He’s a designer and Roisin’s a shopper.

LadyEloise1 · 01/05/2024 20:14

I did feel at the time that Domhnall wasn't allowed to state why things didn't work out. I know there's a saying "when you're explaining you're losing" but it reminds of being in school and not being allowed tell the teacher what really happened and feeling your voice wasn't heard, wasn't worth listening to iykwim.

newnamethanks · 02/05/2024 07:58

I enjoyed seeing Roisin at home, she looked like she'd wallpapered herself along with everything else. I couldn't bear either of those lodges, I'd expect something a lot more in keeping with Blenheim and I doubt either will be kept. Matt has a long and successful career ahead of him. Roisin? perhaps.

newnamethanks · 02/05/2024 08:09

And Francesca. I assume she makes her own clothes? Or her dressmaker shares the same level of taste and talent as Francesca herself.

Alchemistress · 02/05/2024 08:53

I'm amazed that Rosin hadn't figured out over 8 weeks that what she needed almost every time was a saturated pastel colour to offset the brights, rather than another primary which would have worked by supporting the leading colours and patterns whilst still providing a high level of overall colour.

She has had moments of absolute brilliance but her colour theory needs work. Matt needs to lean into the luxe side of things more with layering and texture but I think they were worthy finalists.

I could watch interior design programmes all day... Grin

FirstPastThePostOffice · 02/05/2024 10:38

Matt’s designs were classy but not remotely cosy and comfy so he’ll be great for corporate spaces. I do like bright and colourful but Roisin’s was a bit toooo much. I can’t get on board with wallpapering ceilings. I’m glad she won though she seemed lovely. I’m surprised there weren’t more comments about Ben’s outfit - it was gloriously bonkers!

Im trying to imagine this. As someone who HATES pastels, I can’t even imagine it.

Can you link something that shows how it looks?

Wasnt there somebody this year who was pretty terrible and used pastels as her base for everything? She might have been the contestant Roisin chose to help her in the final?

Dulra · 02/05/2024 12:14

Anyone know what role Roisin had in the range in laredroute? Did she design the pattern/ colours or just source one and use for all the products?

Madcats · 02/05/2024 13:46

Teen and I need a new midweek programme.

I've bookmarked "The home that 2 Built" and "Scotland's Home of the Year" (and it looks as if there is/was a Welsh one).

Are there any other suggestions?

LIZS · 02/05/2024 13:51

Just watched final. Roisin's living area would give me a migraine but bedrooms were great. Matt using black again was too harsh but he did soften the edges more. His was the more classy, hers escapist. No feedback from the client or target customer again.

Am I misremembering but did previous series not include a challenge per episode, like an upcycling task or using a specific feature.

I saw an interview with her and she said she had 2 days with the team at La Redoute so I doubt she had much chance to do anything. It's not really as good a prize as designing a bar (like Monica last year) or a holiday let (Banjo and Lynsey). Lots of interiors companies do collaborations with influencers and it feels like a rather crap version of that. Not that it's Roisin's fault at all, it's La Redoute who are just using her fame rather that producing something that feels meaningful.

I think Matt will do well off the back of this.

He’s very commercially aware.

Absolutely. Reckon Kelly Hoppen will five him a job. (Or an unpaid internship)

jay55 · 02/05/2024 17:59

@LIZS yes they would spring an extra challenge part way through some tasks.

Seaside3 · 02/05/2024 23:40

I'm sure I read to apply you need 3 years if experience, but so many of them seem to say "I've only ever designed my mums loo". Which I can believe.
Can you tell I still have issues with the name of the programme??

Alchemistress · 03/05/2024 09:37

@Icehockeyflowers

Maybe my terminology is wrong, but to me a saturated pastel is a tint that has a higher volume of pigment compared to white, so that it's not as wishy washy as a traditional pastel is thought to be, but holds its own against brighter colours as opposed to fighting hue with hue.

Below is a quick example of what I mean. I think Roisin struggles with foreground and background in spaces because she's all foreground which is what makes it migraine inducing a lot of the time.

Tbh if I had booked one of the original cabins I would be disappointed, they were very bland.

I’m glad it wasn’t just me. I thought they were portacabins and was shocked. I don’t have loads to spend on holiday accommodation and get what I pay for but I imagine those cabins were expensive given their location. I’d have been incredibly disappointed. . Center Parcs style wooden lodges would be better surely,

Icehockeyflowers · 03/05/2024 12:05

Alchemistress Thanks for explaining. I’m not a pastel fan so not sure tbh. She did try that with her kitchen island I think when she painted it pale pink? I’d be more inclined to use a colour like Hague Blue but I didn’t like Roisin’s living area anyway and I can’t really remember it.

I think the pink in the kitchen showed this off really well, and highlighted the brighter colours.

Yes I can image it at school age, but writing / publishing revenge poems in your forties is very odd. I assume he is about 40+?

CharlotteStreetW1 · 05/05/2024 11:08

Does anyone think Ben had a hand in this? 😂

Hello fellow interior design critics…! look what I stumbled upon this very morning whilst perusing the Home section of The Sunday Times… Michelle Ogundehin’s very own house listing..

This is a master class in what happens when you remove the fixtures and fittings before photograhing house for sale….Lovely house, but definitely does not photograph well once bare…. ceramic tiles on the bedroom wall anyone? 😳

Oh. That's actually quite disappointing. Also, I wonder where she's gone.

EmilyGilmoreCardiganEnergy · 04/08/2024 10:07

Goodness!
I'm quite shocked by that, it's a beautiful house but a bit pedestrian inside- the bathrooms and that floral wall.
Totally get what you mean about removing the F&F making it look odd and awkward to visualise.

GrouchyKiwi · 04/08/2024 10:13

Uh. The garden area is lovely?
