The smoking room

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/03/2008 21:58

oh God - I loved Thirtysomething ! I loved Hope

Tatties · 30/03/2008 22:00

Making Out - does anyone remember that?

I am loving the Lakes reruns atm, loved it first time round too.

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/03/2008 22:10

Cracker when Christopher Eccleston was in it

prettybird · 30/03/2008 22:19

PaddingtonBear1 - yes I meant Babylon 5 . Agree with you about the first 4 series being better than the 5th. Got the impression that they knew they weren't ging to be able to finish off the story arc properly, so they tried to tie up the loose ends quickly - and unsatisfactorily.

harpsichordcarrier · 30/03/2008 22:41

does anyone remember a series about an aristocratic family living in a stately house/manor house
and their relationships with a working class family working for them
sort of a COld Comfort Farm vibe
I loved it but can't remember much else about it
anyway it finished very abruptly and no new series was ever made

Clayhead · 30/03/2008 22:43

Wow, Making Out, didn't it have Margi Clarke in it?

fishie · 30/03/2008 22:47

the cedar tree?

i read buffy s8 comic book last night, it didn't help.

UnquietDad · 30/03/2008 22:50

prettybird - don't see where else Babylon 5 could have gone. The 5-year story was wrapped up. Not quite as its creator would have liked - there were a few glitches along the way - but it's as close as possible to a "novel for TV" with a beginning, a middle and an end. (Did you see Series 5?)

Agree about Sapphire & Steel - that still had mileage.

I'm just getting into Buffy now, 10 years late - I still have 6 seasons left to enjoy! Same goes for X-Files.

BigBadMouse · 30/03/2008 22:53

Flame - I thought I was the only one who knew who OMri Katz was . errr....he has been on a uTube 'production' fairly recently - um...not something to watch with DCs present or ILs etc .

He's sooo lovely though

OMG yes, The Cedar Tree, used to watch it when I came home for lunch in Junior School, also:-

Sapphire and Steel
Life On Mars
Spaced
Six Feet Under
The Sopranos
Frasier
The Office

Bomper · 30/03/2008 22:57

Oh and The Sullivans

marina · 30/03/2008 22:57

Making Out - it also had Mossie Smith in I think

And we liked Common as Muck, about the bin-men

But the one I really wish they would bring back was Rescue Me

Lilymaid · 30/03/2008 22:58

Harpsi - was it the Cazalets by Elizabeth Jane Howard? BBC televised part of the series of books then stopped and never finished it?

skyatnight · 30/03/2008 23:53

Oh...a lot that have already been mentioned and probably loads I can't think of. It's not so much that I want them to come back, rather that they were important to me at the time and remind me of my 'yoof'. Some have been repeated and it's the ones that are never repeated that you miss the most. Thank God for youtube.

Blake's 7
The old tv series of the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.
Quatermass
Poldark
The Secret Life of Us - Australian?
The Likely Lads
Upstairs Downstairs
The Tomorrow People
Reginald Perrin
Rising Damp
Cagney & Lacy
Starsky and Hutch
Bouquet of Barbed Wire (It was a hot summer and made an impression on my young mind!)
Citizen Smith
The High Life (Dearie dearie me - very like last year's UK Eurovision entry!)
Flambards - the music was very distinctive.

Vaguely remember The Cedar Tree - eons ago, along with Crown Court!

I remember Eerie Indiana.
Lots of American series, many already listed.

harpsichordcarrier · 30/03/2008 23:59

no, not the Cedar Tree
much more recent, maybe mid 1990's?

Flame · 31/03/2008 00:06

That sounds so wrong BigBadMouse

I do now have a hankering to watch Hocus Pocus...

prettybird · 31/03/2008 00:14

UQD - maybe it was 'cos Series 5 seemed to be so sketchy compared to the previous series. Being really geekish, even now dh and I refer to some of the themes in B5 - eg the use of a major terrorist act to justify a major crackdown on civil liberties - sound familiar

Wasn't happy at the end of Sapphire and Steel either.

Boco · 31/03/2008 00:17

Knightrider
Dempsey and Makepeace

Aitch · 31/03/2008 00:27

the cazalets was lovely, i thought. the blonde girl is in Gavin and Stacey now, in fact she co-wrote it.

i miss Homicide: Life On THe Street and Oz. man, they were good shows.

girlfrommars · 31/03/2008 08:28

Gavin and Stacey was written by James Corden (who plays 'Smithy') and Ruth Jones (who plays 'Nessa').

CitroenDrivingFootballMum · 31/03/2008 08:32

the house of elliott

i have videos

i will now leave to a chorus of incredulation...

MrsMills · 31/03/2008 08:35

The High Life with Alan Cummings. This was when he was still ´married´to Saffron Burrows I think

CitroenDrivingFootballMum · 31/03/2008 08:36

red dwarf
