Why didn't the boys get the speedboat to beat Stephen and Viv?

Because they would only gain an hour or so, there wasn’t much point. It’s not elimination.

RefreshingCandour · 08/05/2024 22:13

Really enjoyed tonight’s ep. So pleased the boys caught up and lovely that they are all now so close, time-wise.

Where are they next week? Any guesses?

I don't think 8,000 ducks can be topped this series.

Oh I wanted to see more of the ducks! How did they get them all out of the field and back home? More human herding but you'd need quite a few people.

Lollybridge · 08/05/2024 22:16

I'd think they'd head to Malaysia and Singapore then Indonesia.

Um Steven says shes slightly different but wont say how.. wtf? why not? (tosser)

He might not even be able to articulate it.
A bit like when people can tell something looks a bit "odd" in a picture/animation, but are unable to explain exactly what.

Lovemycat2023 · 08/05/2024 22:17

i really enjoyed the two younger teams working in the family businesses (the guava farm and the shrimp paste) and I think they did too. I know the jobs are a bit manufactured but it seemed like good experiences and the boys did well to find a few hours work as well when the bus wasn’t too later in the day.

SoupDragon · 08/05/2024 22:19

The ducks were amazing. (Luckily I spotted the typo where I'd put dicks rather than ducks. The penis park was weeks ago...)

And pink dolphins!

They showed the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur so off to Malaysia

My dad had a stroke some years ago, aged 59.

His personality changed, it was subtle mostly but as a previously very placid person he became quite quick tempered, again it was subtle,
He hated any mention of it too, it really riled him which fuelled the fire!

prettybird · 08/05/2024 23:01

I still find Stephen really rude and annoying.

Both the siblings and the boys have really grown on me.

Dh and I are 64 and 63 respectively (although he's 65 next month Wink) and we are not old yet Confused and still have loads of adventurous travelling left in us Grin

BestIsWest · 08/05/2024 23:01

DH says he would pay to do the duck-herding.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 08/05/2024 23:35

Gosh Isobel couldn't look more insincere when she says that she’s enjoyed the day with her mum and thinks their communication is improving!

prettybird · 08/05/2024 23:56

I remember the first time I went to South Africa as a teenager (mid 70s), being horrified at the long drop toilets in the Kruger Shock

I also remember hating, when I went to visit a French pen friend, and later, spending my year in France as part of my degree (late 70s/early 80s), the squatting loos in some places there.

But I coped Grin

MrsLargeEmbodied · 09/05/2024 04:24

i must say none of them look particularly tired do they,

Funny, so did mine!

NoWordForFluffy · 09/05/2024 07:25

Isobel is at that age where she thinks anyone above about 50 is old, so she comes from that annoying perspective! In addition, Eugenie clearly struggles a bit and possibly does mention being old(er) when she's not able to move at any great speed. I imagine her comment relates to both of those factors.

Also, the race to the checkpoint wasn't contrived yesterday. They were genuinely close together.

CaptainMyCaptain · 09/05/2024 07:08

Mine too. How weird!

As much as I'm not keen on Stephen, I'd like him to be there when Isobel next comes out with her "old" bollocks...

NoWordForFluffy · 09/05/2024 07:26

Both Stephen and Viv have referred to themselves as old though!

Cattyisbatty · 09/05/2024 07:37

I thought it was a good episode yesterday and we saw a slightly less annoying Stephen.

Loved the ducks and dolphins!

BoredAuditor · 09/05/2024 07:43

I like Stephen and Viv! Not much at first but they're growing on me.

But still want the boys to win.

Wonder if it's OK to refer to yourself as old, but not OK when your patronising daughter does it...

I'd say you don't get to be upset at being called old if that's how you refer to yourself, no!

I don't think Isobel is patronising. They clearly have a difficult relationship (Eugenie makes constant digs about Isobel) for whatever reason. I think it's very much six of one, half a dozen of the other between them. It makes for awkward TV though.

Oldmansissnoring · 09/05/2024 07:57

Eugiene was in awe of her daughter’s abilities in the first episode. So now it would help if she could make a big effort and give her praise instead of the looks and comments which her daughter has probably learnt from her and possibly holds her back now. Lack of regular decent sleep may be showing with Eugiene but somehow not affecting the others. Viv seems so chilled! Her comment that Stephen won’t say how she’s changed was maybe not how she meant it but to me it sounded the alarm bells because it made it sound like he knew stuff he was holding back which good or bad I’d be very frustrated by.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 09/05/2024 08:05

What I see with Eugenie and Isobel is a mother who nervously babbles, and a daughter who in return looks vacant and expressionless. I can't put my finger on it, but it's really unnerving. Perhaps she's just learned to keep her mouth shut from previous experience. That said, there was a conversation between them on Tuesday nights episode where Eugenie asked Isobel a question, then they cut there. Are the team making more of the mother / daughter tension by editing? Idk. I hope there isn't some massive back story that's been kept till the last episode or something.

Note to RATW team: that shtick is getting really dull, now.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/05/2024 08:09

Do we know how old Isobel's brothers are? I'm wondering if Eugenie had them when she was younger, then there was a significant age gap before having Isobel? Might explain the different relationship with the brothers which has been alluded to.

And he got so upset talking about it he could barely speak. May be he just can’t.
