Just seen my first advert that it's back!!!! Japan to Indonesia starting 10th April, brilliant, my absolute favourite!

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 24/04/2024 22:19

Steve is the stereotypical Superior British Person.

Youtwodeserveoneanother · 24/04/2024 22:23

Why no China? That was skipped over very quickly.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 24/04/2024 22:25

Eugenie really seems to dislike Isobel but I can't work out why and tbh I think Isobel feels the same. The dynamic between them seems really off, unless it's just how's it edited.

I didn't like James lying, it's just mean and unnecessary.

Stephen is awful, ugh to sticking signs into peoples space. Grim.

I think the boys are brilliant, I'd like them to win I think.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 24/04/2024 22:18

Bit heartless?!

I cried my eyes out, so heartbreaking 💔 to lose your mum age 5yo and how he spoke about his mum. She'd be so proud of him.

Why would you cry over a stranger?

I don’t watch the programme for sob stories. We all have them. I prefer to see the race.

SoupDragon · 24/04/2024 22:31

Why would you cry over a stranger?

Because a child losing their mother aged 5 is heartbreaking.
Because a mother knowing they will not see their child grow up is heartbreaking.

Not everyone is heartless 😉

SoupDragon · 24/04/2024 22:34

I think understanding who the people are goes a long way to making it more enjoyable. Who wants to see 10 strangers running about with no understanding of who they are and what makes them tick?

Good lord. I agree that the back stories can be dull, (we get it Bridie, you are dyslexic) but to not be moved by Alfie’s story you’d have to have had your heart replaced by a swinging brick in a bit of string.

RadoxMoon · 24/04/2024 22:36

Oh bloody hell, just because I am not interested in people’s stories doesn’t make me heartless.

We all watch things from a different perspective.

RadoxMoon · 24/04/2024 22:37

Anyway can we get back to discussing the show?

NigelHarmansNewWife · 24/04/2024 22:39

I didn't find tonight's episode as interesting because it was pretty much about how quickly they could leg it down Vietnam without actually experiencing very much of it.

RadoxMoon · 24/04/2024 22:42

I agree.

Vietnam is on my list of places I want to visit, so I’d hoped to see more of it.

I definitely didn’t fancy the night buses though.

OutOfTheHouse · 24/04/2024 22:44

I thought some of the night buses looked quite swish. I’m sure I’d think differently if some bellend had stuck a sign saying ‘please help’ through the curtain though.

EvilRingahBitch · 24/04/2024 22:49

valjane · 24/04/2024 21:58

I agree. Steve's only a couple of years older than me but they act like they're ancient.

Tbf after 16 hours (or whatever) sat in a Vietnamese third class train you'd probably feel ancient. And I guess that the heart-attack/stroke put the kibosh on their previous exercise regimes.

Lollybridge · 24/04/2024 22:52

Vietnam is interesting and beautiful but tonight's episode was all about getting to the checkpoint to avoid elimination. Trains are slow there, not sure why they didn't ask about bus timings. Long distance buses can be quite lux and comfy.

Why did Bridie and her mum decide to stop and work at the fruit market when they're pushed for time? They do seem to have had a relaxed attitude about it all but place more importance on their relationship and experiences.

RadoxMoon · 24/04/2024 22:54

Why did Bridie and her mum decide to stop and work at the fruit market when they're pushed for time?

I suspect they assumed that either they were so far behind they were going home anyway, so it’s an extra experience, or that the taxi would make up more time than it did.

I think the implication was that Brydie and mum were working in the wee small hours before catching the first bus of the day, so they weren't losing time. But it wasn't 100% clear.

It does a bit tbh...

What other perspective is there when a 5yo loses their mum (and I'm assuming only parent given Alfie was raised by his nan) to cancer....

But yes let's move on 😉

Doingmybest12 · 24/04/2024 23:17

Isobel and mum still saying they didn't have a map but then we saw them looking at a map seconds before. Not sure how they manage without.

Ifiori · 24/04/2024 23:21

Gutted to see Stephen and Viv through but it did seem like Sharon and Brydie were having a tough time.

Eugenie is doing my head in now a bit too - her and Isabel don’t seem to share a sense of humour or even at times much empathy for each other. Fair play to James I think for keeping him and Betty competitive, they had a lot of time to make up and did need to race this week.

Warming toward the boys more and more. Wonder if the editing did Alfie dirty in the first episode…?

55Sainz · 24/04/2024 23:31

Viv reminds me of Jacqueline from Benidorm! Took me 3 episodes to finally click!!

Newestname002 · 24/04/2024 23:38

RockaLock · 24/04/2024 21:06

Does anyone know why they had to skip the China leg? Did China decide they weren't going to allow the filming or something?

Yes - I think I read that China wouldn't allow filming so they had to miss it out. . 🌹

Newestname002 · 24/04/2024 23:54

@CaptainMyCaptain
@jay55

He's vile. Poking his sign through people's curtains on the sleeper bus. He should have been thrown off.

Agreed that was incredibly rude. He doesn't seem to care for good manners or other people's boundaries. I was rather hoping they'd be eliminated on this segment. 🌹

MrsLargeEmbodied · 25/04/2024 06:14

i dont really want to see isobel and her mum's bad relationship which was hinted at next week.
i hoped bridie might give her map to them

Aslockton · 25/04/2024 06:35

All those saying ‘just buy a new map’, where would you buy a detailed world map in your town quickly? Now buy one in a South Korean city or Vietnam and it is all in the local language not English. Not much use.

I imagine the film crew have a map that they can make notes from and draw their own version, but not keep. How else would they know where border crossings are?

That's who it is! My DH and I kept saying that she reminds of someone and we were wracking our brains as to who.
