Oh shut up Hope.

We had a perfectly-boiled caterpillar in the school cabbage once. We sent it back. It wasn’t hispi cabbage either. Outrage on both counts!

We also had a decent gypsy tart. The puddings at my first primary school were a high point. At the second one the pudding was always yoghurt or fruit. I like yoghurt but it doesn't count as a pudding.

I'm sure Shitwell's school would have had much better food than mine, instant mash three times a week.

You'd think so, but DH went to a very posh school and instant mash was very much standard.

Posh! we had spam in batter, (tempura spam), beetroot in vinegar , ( organic heritage baby beet pickled in Japanese miso), and mash, ( confit potatoes).

We had a Scottish dinner-lady who used to ask if anyone wanted 'a wee drop of potato' as she wielded the scoop

We had mash served in an ice cream scoop

I wonder if using an ice cream scoop will make my children appreciate mash.

I loved the chips at my primary school. And then they had tuna rolls that tasted amazing and no matter what I do I can't recreate the taste.
