‘A beacon of hope’: Nick Grimshaw and Vicky Pattison on the reality show that’s ripping up the rulebook | Television | The Guardian

@NillyNoMates @TellingBone @Twiglets1 @theconfidenceofwho

Plus any other telly addicts MNetters/Celeb Big Brother twaddlers Brew Cake

Show starts Monday evening according to the Graudian.

I quite like Grimmy on Gogglebox, don't really know the others that well.
But it might be an interesting watch.
Alternatively, I end up not rooting for the underdog and rename the show Josh Must Die. Easter Wink

‘A beacon of hope’: Nick Grimshaw and Vicky Pattison on the reality show that’s ripping up the rulebook

The Underdog: Josh Must Win challenges a group of celebrities to secretly fix a TV series so the nerdy bloke wins – without him knowing. It’s a joyful, subversive ride, with the least likely reality star ever

I agree Dostadning, it just doesn't add up. I think it doesn't help that we have seen so little of the daily interactions between the players. It was all so rushed.

I too hope Josh is doing okay and that the friendships have endured through the big reveal. That will be the real prize for them I think. I wonder if they had to sign NDA type stuff? I'd love to listen to a podcast with just the final four revealing their true feelings about the truth of the show. I'm not interested enough about any of the others.

Well barring any other surprise shows coming up then I'll see you all for BB later in the year. 😎

BigBroMoFo · 09/04/2024 22:23

Will read that tomorrow Dostadning, too tired to be going down any rabbt holes now. Can't believe they've had that secret for a year! I'd have guessed it was done quite recently. Although thinking about it they had some lovely weather and it's been pissing it down for at least six months so it was obvious really 😆

Dostadning · 09/04/2024 22:40

Not a lot in the interview (from 6 days ago).
Just it was a year ago.
But I am watching all three on Jeanette's instagram now.

That was such an anticlimax

It just felt so.....flat

Dostadning · 09/04/2024 22:42

Any regrets?
Josh - no
Louie - no but Jeanette said he should have regretted the egg fight Grin
Jeanette - made a joke about regretting saying "ten, ten, ten"

Josh re the manipulation says he's fine, you couldn't manipulate the final and he think they gave their best in the challenges. Seems fine.

Casting - everyone was DMed
They had no clue
All promo was The Favourite
Jeanette did it because they were pushing the Have you got a talent? element (she sings and has a single out)
100 people auditioned

Power couple didn't speak to anyone after eviction
Myles and Louie weren't talking for a while
Louie thinks Dre and Maddy had a bad edit and Maddy was hilarious

Josh, Jeanette and Louie are (obviously) in touch but not in touch with the rest particularly

OP posts:
Dostadning · 09/04/2024 23:14

They never discussed their nominations but could guess what each other were thinking a lot of the time
No clocks in the house
They didn't do a vote to leave/least favourite
They only did a Vote to win
Because Josh got 3 and Jeanette 1 they were top two and Sofia and Louie went out

Fortunately, watching and listening to the instagram live meeting, I can say this doesn't seem to be the case.

However, despite them having a welfare producer and welfare assistant producer, I'm still stunned this got made. It has Lawsuit written all over it. Shock

That was weird and uncomfortable viewing. I hope they're all OK.

On the bright side, we've all just seen how Reality TV manipulates results.😬

SittingontheSidelines · 10/04/2024 09:43

Well that was very underwhelming. It was hardly designed to make Josh feel good about himself. They can't do it again. I really don't know what the point of it was. However I thought Jeanette looked absolutely beautiful in her silver gown last night. Her montage was fantastic. If she's not picked up and given some jobs from this then I'd be shocked.

FleurdeSel · 10/04/2024 12:10

I liked it. I thought they did a good job of explaining to Josh what the show was all about. He did seem like a good bloke.

Dostadning · 10/04/2024 15:34

He seemed more than fine on the live insta. Both Jeanette and Louie have singles out [eyeroll emoji]. Josh seemed happy with his win, the money, the experience on the whole, having Jeanette and Louie as friends/at least in touch and friendly acquaintances (whether or not the "three musketeers" is seen as lucrative or they have kept in touch properly, jury's out).

I have only just managed to watch the final. I was amazed that Josh wasn't an actor or in on it.

I find that final vote very unlikely but I guess we will never know

Dostadning · 11/04/2024 12:25

I also still find that vote extremely unlikely, 48 hours later.
A slam dunk unanimous 3 votes?
The only way it works is

  • if Louie thought Sofia was voting Jeanette and wanted to increase his own chances but not look like a traitor/hypocrite by voting for Sofia
  • Sofia thought the others wouldn't vote for Josh twice in a row
  • Jeanette wasn't sure which way Josh would vote

Alternatively, there was footage we didn't see/the edit was done well enough to sprinkle seeds of doubt when in fact much more had been said that predicted a Josh win. It still felt "off" though and although Louie said in the instagram live AMA that he wasn't angry in the final, his facial expressions (along with Sofia and Dre on the couch) suggest otherwise.
