So SouthWest Ben has the Starter, who will win Fish, Mains and Dessert…? Will there be fighting over the freezer? How many more flames and medals will the judges have to pretend to be surprised by?

It wasn't no visuals, it was no flamboyant visuals. In the heats there was Melissa's golf course, flaming puddings, a tack box, pillars of feasts etc...

I'm glad the flavour was the most important thing but I'm sorry the theatre wasn't there.

Logistically I can see why they didn't do the pre-dessert, given the chef wasn't even in the country until the guests were. They'd have had to have a whole 'nother chef just for that - which, granted, it's always nice to see someone make it to the banquet but I can see why they didn't.

I'm currently trying to book Kirk's Plates -booking opened at 6. Crashed by 5 past......

Us too! If we can't book for the first few months we'll wait. Their servers are clearly struggling this evening.

@CurlewKate I managed to get a Sunday lunchtime booking in early October for dh's birthday. Something to look forward to later in the year!

We're going to London in June and I was really hoping to get a booking as they were originally meant to be opening in spring! Glad it's so popular though!

We've got a table for July 27- my birthday- so worth persevering. So pleased for them it's busy!

Went to Plates last night for a fundraiser to support a fight against cancer. Here is a shot I grabbed of the kitchen - featuring (L-R) Ben Marks, Tom Shepherd, Kirk Haworth, Adam Smith, Kate Austen. The food (tiny taster portions, but plenty of them) was awesome. It was a an evening of great fun and great flavours, very happy to get tickets and support!

might have said it before but Adam Reid at the Midland is a great experience. You actually get proper food including his famous bread and butter and with the drinks package you actually get proper measures

we even saw Adam himself to apologise when the waiter dropped some drinks near us. He seems to be a regular visitor to the restaurant unlike some chefs
