Did realise it was on although was aware it was coming up soon. Maybe because I don’t have kids in school anymore.

Lenny Henry is 65 years old now! He’s looking good.

OP posts:

@Motherproblem101 We had Red Nose Day at our school yesterday- all wore red for money.

Hedonism · 16/03/2024 06:34

We turned it off during the Kate Winslet thing. Did that bit get funnier?

Rich people begging poorer people for money
No

Exactly, most of them are tax avoiders, guilt tripping normal people that can barely afford the weekly shop.

EndlesslyDistracted · 16/03/2024 06:45

We turned off after the toe-curling Mastermind sketch, the whole thing was a complete cringe. Apart from the real life stories.

GordoStevensMustache · 16/03/2024 06:52

David Tennant is not good at presenting is he? Stiff as a board!

He’s also strangely started to think he’s some kind of fashion icon. His outfits are even more cringeworthy than his presenting.

I only watched the last half hour and it was pretty awful. If Maya Jama is in something it's usually a sign that it will be. She's beautiful but just so try-hard and always looks so uncomfortable that I feel embarassed for her. God that Peter Crouch Summer football thing, I could still cringe.

It did used to be pretty good - or at least bits were. Wasn't it all about comedy/comedians "being funny for money" at one point? This seemed to be half arsed celebs and embarassed actors who.ought to really stick to being other people, for ridiculous amounts of money. The Secret Policeman's Balls I've seen absolutely hilarious clips of too.

And you are right, the fabulously wealthy (anyone who has done several Hollywood films must be millionnaires, surely?) asking the public for money just doesn't sit right, whereas you didn't mind so much with jobbing comedians who seemed the same as us.

It has raised a lot and that's great, I hope it genuinely helps lots of people. But the days of telethon fundraising need to be firmly kicked into touch.

shearwater2 · 16/03/2024 07:14

I don't mind David Tenant presenting or on TV doing anything really, but he should stay away from celeb bore fests like RND and the BAFTAs and make a factual programme about something he is passionate about.

british comedy has died a death since the 90’s.

i can’t think of a sketch show or show recently. We used to have blackadder, Mary whitehouse experience/newman/baddiel/punt/dennis, red dwarf etc

can’t remember the last time I watched a comedy show like that. Outnumbered maybe?

Obviously comedy is a matter of personal taste and not very episode hits the spot but Friday Night Dinner, Not Going Out and Miranda are all pretty good imo

I've never been a fan of any of the RND or Comic Relief type evenings

wubwubwub · 16/03/2024 07:34

Well, we've discovered that traitors contestants Mollie and Harry can't act

Willmafrockfit · 16/03/2024 07:37

it did raise £38 million which is amazing

erikbloodaxe · 16/03/2024 07:41

Lenny bent over and everyone licked his arse. Davina came close to giving him a good fisting too. Richard Curtis has become a grey mist.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 16/03/2024 07:49

It’s all so heavily scripted and rehearsed now. Where are the characters? Where’s the mayhem? It’s all so bloody obvious and cringe and has been for years.

peachescariad · 16/03/2024 07:53

Cringe Relief more like.....obviously glad they raised money but I think it's had its day....watched 7 minutes of it.....the desperation of trying to be funny was embarrassing.

faffadoodledo · 16/03/2024 07:55

The Pun Man (sorry can't recall's name) was very funny and very clever.

43ontherocksporfavor · 16/03/2024 08:00

Yes I liked Pun man.

43ontherocksporfavor · 16/03/2024 08:01

Davina’s shouty, straining delivery is not good.

8 I think. Who is Maya James and can someone lend her some tittape before her boobs explode.

Maya James! That’s her name - spent all night saying to DH, she’s really familiar. Those flipping shoes looked dangerous which I can only assume is why she seemed to not move (and we were saying similar about her boobs, that top looked precarious)

chosenone · 16/03/2024 08:09

It's a shame because intemmebrr it being such a big thing in the 90s and 2000s. Cars with red noses on and most places doing something for it. I think charity fatigue means that with us constantly donating via social media to various charities this does seem old fashioned 🤷‍♀️

I LOVE musicals and was excited to spot some actors in the cast that I've seen in other things, but bloody hell, that looks BAAAAD. The chap playing Geldof was painfully awful.

I saw it a fortnight ago and really enjoyed it. (I’m just slightly too young to remember Live Aid.). Bagged a £150 seat for £30.

Craige Els who played Geldof was outstanding (I was sat next to a lady that knows Geldof very well and said he did a good job of capturing him) and is actually a very accomplished actor. He was Miss Trunchbull in Matilda for years, and has done lots of TV. The run at the Old Vic all but sold out now and it’s transferring to the West End.

My daughter (13) watched the whole of CR for the first time and it lead to some very interesting discussions about the issues they raised. If nothing else I hope it brings her some understanding about how important it is to be aware of and to help others.

Newgirls · 16/03/2024 09:19

I think red noses and t shirts are considered not eco now which is a factor.

Maya Jama. I saw her being mobbed by young ones at Palma airport last year. Although she had massive sunglasses on indoors at night and was sat at the side facing everyone apparently trying not to be noticed 🤔🤣
I didn't know who she was. Half got her name from someone. Then Mumsnet helped me know who she was. She was very nice to the kids though.

Willmafrockfit · 16/03/2024 09:38

but they were wearing noses on the stage
it is less advertised i think, i saw a school boy with a painted red nose which i thought was sensible.
a colleague didnt like the hygiene aspect of the red nose for her dc

Snugglemonkey · 16/03/2024 09:39

I did not realise was on. I have not even seen any red noses this year!
