There was something distasteful about seeing this cocky young lad win against a young disabled woman.

I think it stems from centuries of women being take advantage of/manipulated and made to feel like they have to please others.

But at the end of the day it was a game. And he did well.

I feel like there might be one or two good series left before it overthinks itself. And everyone is trying to be a winner

i didn’t get that at all. I definitely didn’t see Mollie as disabled. I thought she was young, beautiful and strong. On the day Harry outwitted everyone. That’s how to win. I wish him well.

NonPlayerCharacter · 28/01/2024 10:31

It must be a printed letter, otherwise people could guess the handwriting...though I suppose it doesn't matter at that point.

LadyWithLapdog · 28/01/2024 10:32

They have to add the name on the letter, I think?

LadyWithLapdog · 28/01/2024 10:34

Though once you’re spotted to be recruited as a Traitor you’re a dead man walking. Either too loud, too clever, too much personality etc. You’re either getting banished or murdered. I think the only option is to join the Traitirs.

BonnyBo · 28/01/2024 10:36

i don’t know if it’s been talked about before but do they ever discuss the fact that as they’re waiting for the last two of three contestants to come in for breakfast, it‘s likely that those left were in contention for being murdered, given the editing of the show?

Feels like it could give additional insight into the traitors’ thought process!

Bouledeneige · 28/01/2024 10:37

Wouldn't one of the attractions of the game for clever but honest people be that you get to play at being a villain for a few weeks? I think at heart I'm a very honest person and I don't believe it would ever be in my best interests in my personal or professional life to be a liar but I wouldn't mind playing a traitor and seeing if I could win.

Now I would never sign up because I wouldn't want to be on TV and get all the publicity. And seeing some reactions I certainly wouldn't want to because if I was any good everyone would be hating on me and casting aspersions on my character in real life.

Actors get to play parts but seemingly not contestants on a TV game!

Bouledeneige · 28/01/2024 10:38

We see them write the name in on the letter on the show!

Turquoisesea · 28/01/2024 10:42

@Bouledeneige 100% agree!

Turkeyhen · 28/01/2024 10:46

I don’t think they get to keep the letter although I only have one example to go from (avoiding spoiler)

Turkeyhen · 28/01/2024 10:48

Bouledeneige · 28/01/2024 10:38

I always wonder if their handwriting could give them away in this scenario - but I guess the traitor would be at pains to write plainly and not misspell the name.

LadyWithLapdog · 28/01/2024 10:58

I’d love to take part, but I don’t think I’m fit enough for all that running. C25K beckons.

Given some of the name misspellings at the round table, that could easily be a give away - but at that point it doesn't really matter does it. Once you've got the murder letter you can't exactly go back and reveal who the traitor is!

Jaz played it so well. He did nearly have it. Mollie robbed him.

People saying
• he spoke too late - well, that's how he got to the final
• he didn't have strong convictions - he wasn't informed, he accepted he might be wrong, he knew he was going on guesses and intuition (so admirable in rl to acknowledge you might be wrong)
• He wasn't influential- he didn't know who to trust. He was trying to get the balance right as to not get too much attention (again- that's why he was in the final) + the guy does not know how to manipulate; the few times he tried to voice his theories he was dismissed (def racial and cultural bias at play too). People saying his points weren't made clearly and was convoluted - he wasn't clear himself, he was guessing, he was careful not to sound like he is 100% sure because he wasn't and that could get him banished/ murdered...

And when I said Mollie robbed him -
Andrew gave it to her on a plate. He was a traitor, he was naming a traitor. Harry said he is sure Jaz isn't a traitor- how would he know if he was a mere faithful. Jaz brought up H at the last banishment quite convincingly- enough to plant some seeds there for her. He pre warned her to pay extra attention and approach with curiosity- she didn't. And of course, H wanting to end the game when J was proving he was a faithful by asking for a final banishment...
But she didn't want it to be true and she lost Jaz the game he played so well. She said she doesn't trust him and he does suspicious things, (while Harry was telling her she is 100% not going to be murdered!), and I really think it was because he looked and talked different to the people she grew up around. Such a shame.

It was a Harry and Jaz final for me, and sadly M was a little pawn who just tipped the scales in H's favour.

Edited

I'd be Miles, standing on the outside shouting instructions or just looking into space and pretending it's all not happening

What if it’s a recruitment letter though …

@H34th Fantastic post. I 100% agree with you.

H34th · 28/01/2024 11:30

I think one of the comments mentioned that when you have informed minority v uninformed majority, the minority almost always wins.
It's a bit sad, because our societies are built this way - the minority on top have the full picture and power, and the majority just blame each other and blindly follow the most manipulative.

Pretty much this.

I think how you view it is probably determined to an extent on which personality type you are.

Those with Harry's easy popularity and group influence will not understand why Jaz didn't go in harder but those that are more quiet thinkers without the big personality influence will much better understand what's it's like when you can see through someone that's popular but absolutely see how it will backfire on you talking against that person. Subtle and careful seed sowing is the only approach you have to avoid everyone turning on you.

I think Jaz played it almost flawlessly with hand he was dealt. Harry made some mistakes but got away with them all.

Barry was easily the best traitor and Jaz was easily the best faithful. Either winning would have been a "fair" outcome and I think the fact that in those circs the traitor won out is a reflection that the traitors ultimately do have more information and power in the game.

Both J and H can, and probably do, feel they played the best game they could with the way the game played out.

autienotnaughty · 28/01/2024 11:37

@crumpet excellent point it's easy to forget there's a whole lot we don't see and it's edited to tell a story.

Barry was easily the best traitor - nah, Barry was rubbish.

"Barry was easily the best traitor - nah, Barry was rubbish."

Yeah good point. He was so rubbish he got cut out of the edit!

noblegiraffe · 28/01/2024 11:45

Barry flew under everyone's radar.

JaneJeffer · 28/01/2024 11:49

Barry was a better traitor than Ashley at least

Dotellhimpike · 28/01/2024 11:51

"I think how you view it is probably determined to an extent on which personality type you are"

I'm the personality type that views it as just an entertaining TV show, not to be taken so seriously.
