"No, but as an Asian myself, I find it really annoying when people anglicise their own names to make it easier for white people to pronounce. I have seen his name spelt differently on different media."

He's bloody English, he was born in Manchester 😅. And you've not seen him write his name as Jas anywhere Confused

Such arrogance! Traitor all the way

MotherofGorgons · 27/01/2024 11:55

His name is Jaz Singh. Though of course all Singhs are not Sikh, All Sikhs are Singh though.

He can spell it any way he chooses; I just said Jas seemed more logical.

lizzowhiz · 27/01/2024 11:56

I did have a moment (when the camera shot zoomed in on Mollie starting to write 'Harry') of thinking - wow, she really has played a blinder, keeping her head down, never voicing her own opinion, just echoing others, faking an infatuation with Harry so he won't doubt her loyalty and then applying logic to chuck him under the bus and share the winnings with Jas/Jaz (!) who really deserved it as he'd played a blinding and far more risky game.

But no, what an embarrassing disappointment that she really hadn't had any strategy all along, and didn't even have the wits to capitalize on Jas/Jaz's strategy

I will take this as a compliment. I would love to be a Traitor. Though I would make a shit job of it.

Aside here: does anyone know when this is filmed? I feel like the outside shots looked like early autumn (or even the summer) and that would make sense due to Scottish winter weather being so unpredictable. Plus Claudia is v tied up with Strictly in the approach to winter. Yet if that's the case, how is leakage avoided? I wondered if everything except the final round tables is filmed months ago and then the denouement was a few days ago... but that would collapse the tension and intensity.

august isnt it
autumn in scotland
then they had to go back to work and never mention it!

Yep. I know someone who was involved in filming (not a contestant) and it was done in late summer.

To be fair with the spellings, they presumably don't see each others names written down very often, so why would they know? And they can't really ask each other how to spell their names can they, it would be a bit obvious!

WriterOfWrongs · 27/01/2024 12:02

MotherofGorgons · 27/01/2024 11:46

Jas/Jaz is most likely Jaswinder. He is Sikh. So Jas.

Except it’s not, because that’s not how he spells it…

Presumably names would have to be written somewhere on schedules / room allocations though? Even if just for the morning / evening pickups

The last mission was quite amusing, notably the way the team was magically all harnessed up to abseil within seconds of arriving at the clifftop (and presumably the time for harnessing etc didn't come off their time limit?) and the camera team studiously tried to keep the helpers who had to be there out of shot. However, it was noticeable that an extra body suddenly appeared at the top when Andrew got into difficulty.

I was also sniggering slightly at the fact that it was the two big strong men who were prostrated with seasickness on the boat.

They must also have stopped the clock while safety equipment was put on and safety briefings given. I bet the whole thing took hours!

Mollie and Evie were amazing at the abseil and cave and it was absolutely hilarious that neither Andrew nor Harry was able to help with raising the sail at first but the women (one of whom don’t even have two fully-functioning hands for goodness sake!) were straight in there hauling it up.

He got the shield and showed it to a few people so they knew he had it (Mollie saw him get it so she already knew). The next morning, after recruiting Ross, he explained the fact they were all there at breakfast by him having the shield, saying the Traitors must have tried to murder him and failed. Then later he said the Traitors couldn't be anyone who knew about the shield, because if those people were Traitors, they wouldn't waste the murder. It pointed the finger at those who hadn't known.

What I can't understand is why nobody, even the smarter ones like Jaz, Zach, Jasmine or Evie, ever questioned whether Harry got the shield DESPITE being a traitor? It's as though they were all under the illusion that traitors were not allowed to get shields. Yes, it was certainly a smart ruse and covered up the fact that there had been a recruitment, but the others must have known that traitors could also get shields and they should therefore have considered the other scenario to explain why there had not been a murder that morning... i.e. there had been a recruitment. Easy when you're watching it on TV, I suppose...

Yes, I'm not saying they never see them, just probably not that often, and nowhere you can check when writing down a name on a board if you can't quite remember in a stressful situation!

I rewatched episode 1 last night to brief DS before the final- and I noticed that for the first mission each of them had their name on a yellow armband over their wetsuit. Makes sense as there were so many of them at that point, and they had only just met.

pinksheetss · 27/01/2024 12:12

I think it's insane how much people get annoyed at Harry, especially if you were in the game and faithful. You literally sign up to the show knowing that at any point you could be made a traitor also, people just get salty they aren't a traitor

Harry played a great game and the only one to really strategise. Molly coasted through, Jaz didn't follow up on his suspicions, Andrew bottled it for most.

I also don't think Harry ever intentionally meant to get close to Molly and manipulate her, and if people do think that they they clearly didn't watch the show properly.

The only deserved outcome really was Harry winning

Jaz did. It was one of the first things he said after Harry revealed it to all...that a Traitor could still get a shield.

It must be so hard. So fast moving, so intense, and everything could be a bluff or double bluff, and trying to make all the right alliances at the same time.

Turkeyhen · 27/01/2024 12:22

For those that didn't listen to Claudia's show on Radio 2, she said that when Harry took the shield in the cabin mission and came up with the whole shield ruse, she and the producers were gasping - so it wasn't manipulated by the production team.

WriterOfWrongs · 27/01/2024 12:25

Thanks @Turkeyhen - a nice little tidbit!

SlightlyJaded · 27/01/2024 12:26

Whether you were happy or not with Harry's win, on reflection, I'm glad Jaz didn't vote for him when Andrew did.

Whatever the mechanic for unlocking a tie break - coin toss - whatever, that would have been a disservice to whoever lost. Imagine going the whole game to the final and then losing out on anything other than banishment or minder?

QuarterPastThree · 27/01/2024 12:29

Mollie was honest, decent, loyal, trusting, honourable and faithful to the end.

You really can't get better qualities in a person, can you?

Agree completely, but I am still frustrated that Jaz didn't attempt to team up with Andrew and Evie to take Harry out at the round table while there were sufficient numbers for Mollie's vote not to matter!

laclochette · 27/01/2024 12:34

@QuarterPastThree I don't know....these are the qualities that let genuinely nasty people (rather than, to give Harry credit, people who are just adopting these characteristics due to being in a game) get away with it. Critical thinking is a good quality too.

MadeOfAllWork · 27/01/2024 12:40

Someone said upthread that there were 200 people involved in the production.
That really isn’t that many when you factor in camera operators, editors, sound technicians, hair and make up, all the people they needed for safety in the various missions, directors, drivers, lighting crew, catering, security.

MotherofGorgons · 27/01/2024 10:37

The only person who robbed Jas is Harry. He managed to convince them all he wasn't a traitor. Pretty much everyone would have voted Jas out rather than Harry.

I watch both The Traitors and Survivor, and S Asian men are always voted out first for being sneaky, unreliable, devious, patriarchal etc etc. As are older women. The pretty, young, malleable women always get into the final.

It shows how group prejudice works. Jas did well to survive into the final.

I watch Survivor too, or have done a lot. I can only think of one or two S Asian male contestants in the US version, if by S Asian you mean of Indian or Pakistani ethnicity. Many more male contestants who are of Korean, Chinese, Japanese or Vietnamese descent.

I haven't watched the last two seasons but they came out after the Diversity Initiative, so there would be somewhat of an irony in the S Asian men being voted out on a prejudiced basis. Not saying it didn't happen though during those seasons though.

Who are the S Asian Survivor contestants you're thinking of?

Flamme · 27/01/2024 12:50

ILostMy20s · 27/01/2024 11:23

No thanks. There are very few women this series that would've been any good as a traitor.

Traitors should be chosen because they're the best option to fill that role at that point in the game, not for their gender.

The women weren't ever given the chance, as the men kept recruiting more men. People like Charlotte, Evie, Jasmine and Diane could all have been pretty good.

I did mention to my DH and DS when they were feeling sorry for Andrew and Harry, that women with morning sickness every day have to just get on with it.
