Now fully at Live TV pace.

Will it be a traitor in the kitchen with a poisoned chalice?

I watched the Australian one last year and was struck by the huge difference in how strategic and 'game playery' they were right from the second they got there.

I started series 2 of it last night and they are even more tactical and aggressive right from the off. It's brutal! They are all so much on their guard and are not forming friendships - more allegiances and groups to get certain people out right from the start. More canny and tactical for sure - but I actually prefer the UK one (not just for that reason - they don't have Claudia or a castle for a start) . It's all too much too soon.

I like seeing the friendships develop in the UK one and it's seems more natural.

That said the UK ones are far slower to suss out the traitors!

AnImaginaryCat · 15/01/2024 07:14

Yes, you would have thought it being series 2 the players might have been more clued wouldn't you?

Yet still we have even the very basic mistake of "100% Paul is faithful" based simply on the fact that person likes Paul and so assumes all his actions are genuine.

Question everything (especially what you own unconscious biases are), assume nothing.

Lowin2024 · 15/01/2024 07:21

Exactly. I roll my eyes every time one of them says “X is 100% faithful” or “I trust X 100%”. It is literally the game not to trust anyone!
They also make the mistake of attributing personality traits to traitors and things like no X is too kind, too quiet etc. Almost forgetting that the traitors are not fundamentally awful people 😂

kenyaswhiterefrigerator · 15/01/2024 04:23

@QueenOfThorns

Fay from series one kept a list of who everyone voted for. She was killed shortly after revealing it though

Thank you! So perhaps they’re ALL doing it and no one dares say…

Holidayhell22 · 15/01/2024 08:04

Interesting post about using everyday people for juries.
They can then take their prejudices and unconscious bias and apply it to what they believe to be logical reason.
Why do you think male defendants are always advised to wear a suit, shirt and tie? Even when they live in dirty grey tracksuits and baseball caps.
We all form a basic opinion of people on first sight. Some people are better at adjusting their opinion based on evidence and facts.
Others allow other people too much influence. This is where gossip comes in. Some people give more credence to certain people’s opinion-social media influences anyone.? Other people are much harder to influence. These will be the people the traitors murder. The sheep type such as Meryl last year and Mollie this year will (or should) fair much better.
It always reminds me of The Weakest Link where the last contestant with the casting vote gets rid of the strongest player and takes the weaker player through.
It’s a fascinating in sight into human behaviour.

WriterOfWrongs · 15/01/2024 08:08

So much to catch up on!

Several of them may think it’s Paul but they’re pretending not to in order to vote him out nearer the end, which is a smart tactic. Last year apparently several thought Amanda was a traitor pretty quickly but sat on it.

The producers are playing a game of their own in terms of what they show us and when.

It is a good strategy. Only thing is you would be unlikely to recall who voted for who as during those round tables you don't know to focus on and commit their votes to memory. Certainly not at the early stages - way too many people.

Also
It's possible traitors are recruited later so she may be a faithful earlier then a traitor. So the voting won't necessarily reveal faithfuls.

They don't make it Crystal clear when trailers are recruited

Choux · 15/01/2024 08:35

The producers are playing a game of their own in terms of what they show us and when.

This is definitely true. So many conversations will have happened that we don't see. We see what they choose to show us.

And also we only see what the players choose to tell someone. If the person keeping a list of votes and other notes was killed for saying they had it, then no one will say they are keeping notes this year. But it could be that everyone is scribbling away as soon as they get to the hotel.

It's also important to remember that although the goal is to eliminate the traitors, it's useful to keep the traitors in as long as possible after you work out who they are. If Paul is exposed you may find he is immediately replaced and then the faithful are clueless as to who has just become a traitor. Best to keep eyes on the traitors you know / suspect while you try to suss out the others then do a 1-2-3 banishment once the numbers are 8-10 players. Assuming you don't look too smart and get murdered of course.

burnoutbabe · 15/01/2024 08:51

Faithful as well don't just want faithful to win, they want themselves to win.

So voting out OTHER faithful is a fine thing as it means you don't get voted out.

And share less money at the end.

If Diane is saying "Paul is 100% faithful" then keep her as a good ally. Useful at the end.

Swl · 15/01/2024 09:15

Hiccup on filming I think, Diane announces "there is no wine left" before they all go to the bar! She then stands behind bar with the apparent only remaining bottle Then stands waiting for the Chalice to chase her round the bar ???

No miles goes through and says “more wine has appeared does anyone want one” so producers were helping the traitors set it up.

MaggieFS · 15/01/2024 10:13

I agree that if you are faithful and pretty sure you know who the traitors are, the best tactic is to vote out loads of other faithful early on, so you don't get murdered and the traitors can't recruit. Claudia and they themselves add pressure (drama!) by the narrative of how many have/haven't been banished.

With regards to the producers choosing what they show, yes of course, but I'm less bothered on this show because there isn't a public vote. It's not like other reality shows where you feel people are being portrayed to play certain roles which then affects the outcome.

periodiclabel · 15/01/2024 10:32

Place marking. There's a hole in my life until Wednesday night!

Bluetrews25 · 15/01/2024 11:02

Really still struggling with telling Evie and Charlie apart.
I know Evie is the Scottish vet nurse and Charlie is the MH worker from Bristol with hearing issues.
But they have very similar hair, body shape and facial features (are they sisters?!) and until they speak I can't tell which is which. Or I'm just really unobservant. (possible)
Apologies to them.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 15/01/2024 11:42

The Oz season 2 version on daily motion is excellent. Problem is that you can just watch one after another so discipline is required (I don't have any)

As anyone else who has watched Season 2 will testify, One of the traitors on there makes Paul look like a fluffy kitten.

periodiclabel · 15/01/2024 12:01

I think there's been quite a bit of emphasis on Charlie these past few episodes in VTs, so she's either about to get the chop, be banished or be picked as a traitor, with Paul and Harry deciding they can quickly throw her under the bus

I too fear that this might be the end of the line for Unbrushed Charlie! She seems lovely but I don't think has much clue about who the Traitors are... Half-Brushed Evie is cleverer, she has said she suspects Paul but is keeping quiet about it to stay of his radar...

I'm interested (and gutted for Anthony) that when he made his case (not super well) against Paul, none of the others jumped in to back him... I think the really smart players are all still waiting and watching - keeping their mouths shut and focusing on not getting banished while they work stuff out?

This group includes Jaz, Evie, possibly Andrew (didn't he mention Paul once?) and possibly Mollie - the quiet ones!

ParsnipAndPoppy · 15/01/2024 15:01

What would we do in Jan without the Traitors… especially Dry Jan!

whosaidtha · 15/01/2024 15:18

So traitors is based in the parlour game mafia. So I think they should introduce the sheriff and villager characters. Would make it more interesting. The sheriff in particular would help give a clue.

I was wondering whether they could be cousins. What stumps you with the possible family likeness thing is the women's hair. The shape of people's ears can be a dead giveaway sometimes.

theconfidenceofwho · 15/01/2024 16:43

When I watch The Traitors, it always makes me think 'trust nae fucker' !!

(& sorry as I can't remember the name of the Scottish poster who said it on another entirely separate thread from a long time ago but this phrase comes into my head regularly about many things & especially frequently about The Traitors!)

MotherofGorgons · 15/01/2024 17:21

Just watched Anthony on the Uncloaked. He's adorable! Really funny. I think he could have been like Personable Paul if chosen as a Traitor.

Iheartwhitetshirts · 15/01/2024 17:38

I kept thinking Harry was silly to tell Paul that Jazatha Christie suspected him. He really should’ve kept it to himself and used it to oust Paul at an opportune time. But actually Paul made such a hames of it, it worked out.

I think Paul will be banished for sure and Harry will make the final. Rooting for Jaz to win!
