My theory about the filming logistics is this (based on nothing btw).

At the end of the day all the contestants go off to a Travel Lodge or somewhere nicer with any luck. The whole place is booked out for the show.

The vox pop room and murder room, which are the same place, is not in the castle at all but is a set.
The turret where the traitors meet is also a set. Both of them are in the conference room or event room of the same hotel.

All the contestants go back to the hotel where they are collected from their rooms to go to the turret if they are a traitor.
They also film the vox pops at the same time, with careful coordination.

The murdered person is told they murdered in the morning before everyone else is collected for breakfast.

The clips of them in the bath/shower/knitting etc were done either before or after the filming of the show.

The clips of the traitors outside the castle etc are either filmed at another time, after the main filming has completed. Or it could be other people under the cloaks.

I am signed up with an extras agency (I am based in Scotland). Middle of August we had a casting call for an unnamed "reality show filming north of Inverness" looking for around 20 people of both sexes and all ages to play through "tasks and games" which would later be played by contestants. It was SO obvious that it was for the traitors, doing a dry run for the producers before the contestants did the games. The money was OK at about £120 a day plus food, BUT you had to get yourself to Inverness and they weren't paying accommodation.

So I declined.

@Nesbi The main thing that made people suspicious of Paul is their complete surprise that he survived and Meg didn’t, as they thought he was so popular that he had to be the main target for murder.

Yes this is the key logic piece I think. Paul is so popular that he'll never get banished. Therefore the only chance the Traitors ever had to get rid of him was after the dungeon - instead they murdered Meg who was already under suspicion and had no real backers/buddies...

If you think he's a Faithful that's really hard to explain.

That's why it is so likely - logically - that he must be a Traitor. But no one wants to admit it and he's a master of deflection and manipulation...

I don't like the guy but he's playing a hell of a game!

I guess Paul could say that he could be murdered at any point, but the Traitors didn’t do it that night either because they wanted to mess with everyone’s heads, or because Meg was on to someone and was actually more of a threat.

I think unless something happens to put the spotlight on other people he will go soon. As we saw with Johnny, they just want names to focus on and Paul is a big enough name for people to suddenly decide he needs to go. Even if lots of them don’t think he is a Traitor, he is still a threat as a potential winner so what do you have to lose?

Twonewcats · 12/01/2024 18:49

I find it fascinating how the tasks almost always seem to be done in lovely weather.

MamOfTwo · 12/01/2024 19:01

Mind if I join you good folk? Looking at the clock and willing it to be 9pm so have to accept I Am Invested! Really want Paul to become undone this episode. A query - if two Traitors end up in the final undiscovered, would they split the prize money or would they then get pitted against each other (ie one says 'share', one says steal' type scenario)?

what do you mean, it's always like that in Scotland. 😁

Stowickthevast · 12/01/2024 19:04

@Bargello I read a Reddit post by someone who had been a game tester for the show so it sounds like it may have been that.

It sounded fun getting to try all the different tasks, some of which they said took far longer than they've been allocated on the show.

The timings are always so suspicious with Charlie firing the catapult with 10 seconds to spare last night.

Nesbi · 12/01/2024 19:10

In other countries’ versions they have run the games several times and then spliced the footage together to make one exciting game. No idea if that happened in the UK version though.

IGotItFromAgnes · 12/01/2024 19:14

I’m not sure the games have been exciting enough for them to have done that @Nesbi

MaggieFS · 12/01/2024 19:19

I'm curious about the off set logistics too. In the UK version, the players obviously leave each evening. I agree with pp, it wouldn't be surprising if the video room is off site, and the traitors' lair is a set, even if it's portrayed as being up a tower. I would guess both are on site though.

In the US version, it's shown that they go up the stairs to bed and come down in the morning, plus various shots of people in period bedrooms, in pyjamas and so on. But it was an article about the US version which said they stayed at an Inverness airport hotel. However 45 mins each way seems ridiculous.

Also the Land Rovers don't have proper licence plates, so either they're changing plates at the gates, or the Land Rovers never leave the castle grounds and they all just pile into a coach!

Bargello · 12/01/2024 19:22

The castle is in a very rural location near Alness. If they are staying off-site, plus the crew, then it'd have to be Inverness as it's the only place big enough near by.

Nesbi · 12/01/2024 19:24

@IGotItFromAgnes - Fair point 😄

MaggieFS · 12/01/2024 19:32

@Bargello Fair, I hadn't thought about crew numbers.

If you look at the credits I think there is something like ‘set cars’ or something like that. I suspect that they take them to the end of the drive and put them in a coach.

I’m convinced the turret is a set. If you look at the brick work looks fake. Also compare it to the dungeon, which was on site, it just doesn’t feel right.

And if it’s a set then it makes sense to have it near where they are staying. If Inverness is 45 minutes away they would have to take them there, wait for everyone to go to their rooms, then drive them back to the castle, film the stuff in the turret and then 45 minutes back again. So it would be 3 hours at best from when they go to bed.

Apparently it was filmed in June last year, we actually did have a lovely June, right up till the schools stopped at the end of June then it completely disappeared! The sun did come back out once the schools went back again. 🙄

theconfidenceofwho · 12/01/2024 19:51

happinessischocolate · 12/01/2024 17:02

If the traitor get voted out they just get replaced by more recruited traitors, so surely if you really suspect someone as a traitor youre better off making friend with them and keeping on their good side and then when 🤞 you get to the final, call them out then.

As pp said staying in is winning, regardless of who is getting voted out .

I'm new to the show, so how does this work? Surely voting out the Traitors is pointless then if they just make more?

I'm really hoping Paul goes as he seems horrible. Can't understand why he's so popular! Diane is my favourite!

lljkk · 12/01/2024 20:12

I love Paul's cocky malevolence, in same way I enjoyed Amanda's amused cackles last year.

Amanda was on radio today, R5 maybe? Talking about her experience. She said that they spend up to 12 hours/day together. And only topic they talk about is really "Who do you think is a traitor?!"

That sounds more like the corporate awayday from hell - no wonder everything gets magnified.

I am finding it increasingly amusing how determined some posters are at seeing the traitors as bad guys. Everyone who signed up agreed to play either role, nobody is inherently good or bad if they are playing the game well in their role.

Yes and then they are being edited in line with the narrative the producers want to portray, including the archetype the producers want the contestant to be portrayed as.

Eg, Charlotte as flirty, busty minx

The producers aren't necessarily going to be focused on showing us Paul repeatedly being pro-actively empathetic and kind to his fellow constants for example. They have a limited amount of time per episode and there are some set pieces like the mission and round table that they have to include.

JaneJeffer · 12/01/2024 20:29

I don't know why people like Diane after how she treated Anthony which was way worse than anything Paul has done!

And they have the benefit of already knowing what happens at the end. They presumably then build everyone's characters around that.

Strewth - what a job, having to plough through all that footage.

WriterOfWrongs · 12/01/2024 20:38

@bendypines exactly, they'll build it with all the footage in, and what a mission that must be. At least they 'win' and get to keep all the silver for that mission though Wink

To add to what I said earlier, I can see why Paul was chosen for the show and then to be a traitor. Because I think he went in with absolute clarity of what archetype he'd play. He also has been on Reality TV before and clearly wants to be, so he's probably more likely to do what the producers ask.

@JaneJeffer I agree with you. I definitely think how Diane took against Anthony unfortunately looked racist. Even though in the footage of that incident we couldn't hear what he was saying, he didn't come across as defensive and aggressive as he has since.

I agree with this and shudder to think what it would have been like to have had her as a teacher if she'd taken against you randomly at the beginning of the year.
