I've just finished watching this and enjoyed it a lot depsite some huge plot holes.

I don't understand something though and wondered if I'd missed something which would explain it. How did the nanny & her boyfriend (or how did Judith) know about the camera in the picture frame? Maya told the nanny about it AFTER seeing Joe on the video on the SD card. Was Eva somehow involved in the setting up of Maya? Maybe all this was explained, if so, I missed it!

....Also, did Eddie ever find out it was Maya's husband that killed his wife? Did the children even find out?

They would do,as the confession/confrontation was all live streamed.

Hibye23289 · 08/01/2024 15:25

@Twonewcats oh yes of course

I thought it rubbish.
MK cant act for buttons.
I fast forwarded ep 6 and half of ep 7 to hurry it up a bit. Too many plots running at the same time
It was so slow . H Coben is totally over rated . Dont know how its No 1 on NF

Agreed

cadburyegg · 08/01/2024 23:08

I think we were supposed to suspect Shane because of his weird behaviour but I think he was just keeping an eye on Maya because he was concerned for her, but also I do think he suspected her from quite early on.

I thought it was weird that the nanny was never arrested or questioned further about the pepper spray.

The series first kicked off with the deepfake on the nanny cam so that's what made Maya investigate further. Rationally she knew Joe couldn't be alive because she killed him but she doubted her own sanity and became suspicious of people around her.

They revealed that Maya had a hidden gun about half way through so I did think it might end up being her - they could have left that bit out I think!

Dustybarn · 09/01/2024 05:39

I couldn’t finish this. Maya was horribly cast - totally unbelievable as a combat pilot. It is like casting Victoria Beckham as a combat pilot….And Joanna Lumley who is wonderful was a bit of a caricature of the evil mother in law.

supercatlady · 09/01/2024 14:52

A bigger question is why she went searching for answers about who murdered her husband when it was her all along. I was wondering if the book has less black holes as I found it really disappointing

Agree. I’ve started watching it again now I know how it ends and I’m like ‘that’s doesn’t make sense’
Even in the first scene at the funeral, she has a flashback to screaming his name after he was shot

I did think she could think it was possible that he didn’t actually die though as she didn’t see his ‘body’ and I don’t recall whether he died at the scene or later on

Was the lawyer set up to say there was a problem with the death certificate? Otherwise what was all that about?

barkymcbark · 09/01/2024 20:36

Why did we have the story line about Claire being pregnant before she met her husband, and the dna tests and half brother. Just seemed a bit of a pointless thread and had no bearing on anything (unless I missed something).

I asked this and someone said it was so the sister, Claire, had a child to use to visit the private school!

WatNat · 09/01/2024 22:03

I really enjoyed the series but it did leave me with a few questions- the nanny cam was given by her friend in secret so how did they know to alter the footage? Also that friend I think was the mum to PJ and the coach was her ex husband- this was touched upon but never really taken any further unless I got that bit wrong? The whole Claire and Corey connection didn't seem very convincing to me and Claire having another son and his dad but then nothing coming from that relationship but going into detail about him being wealthy etc. Why didn't the other police officer arrive at the forest when Corey was being chased and why did he presumably go along with letting Maya go when Sami had him (who wasn't an officer anymore but still had handcuffs) and why did Sami stay with Corey and not Maya at the house? Why did Maya take a loaded gun and not do the same trick with using the deactivated gun or at least wear a bulletproof vest?! Her death seemed unnecessarily harsh to leave her daughter. Why was Shane made out to be shady and untrusted by Maya when he had nothing to do with any of it. So many questions and so much over thinking on my part!

WatNat · 09/01/2024 22:04

Yeah I think that's the connection too

WatNat · 09/01/2024 22:11

Good point!

StartupRepair · 09/01/2024 20:13

I assumed it was a set up from the family as they didn't want Maya inheriting anything because they thought she killed Joe.

SingaporeSlinky · 09/01/2024 23:33

I think the problem with the death certificate was part of the family trying to set up Maya, trying to mess with her so she’d slip up. Like the weird call from the sister-in-law pretending she had seen Joe.

Weird that the little girl had to grow up knowing her dad killed her aunt, her mum killed her dad, and her uncle killed her mum.

I was convinced that Maya would be wearing a wire in the final scene, or at least a bullet-proof vest, but I think they made it fairly clear at the end that she couldn’t live with the guilt of the civilian deaths and all the flashbacks, so she was prepared to die.

StartupRepair · 10/01/2024 01:53

It was such an unnecessary death.

StartupRepair · 10/01/2024 01:54

And Lily having a baby at 20 seemed a bit much.

pottypotamus · 10/01/2024 03:05

If Judith wasn't involved in the Nanny Cam being intentionally placed in Maya's house, how did she know just by looking at the digital photo frame at the end that she was being filmed?

A normal digital photo frame would not have a secret camera. And she seemed to recognise it as soon as she saw it and was instantly horrified?

pottypotamus · 10/01/2024 03:12

Also would you recommend the Harlen Coben series that are dubbed in English. I think there are a couple. I've seen all the ones filmed in English.

HpfromAus · 10/01/2024 10:19

Agree - the photoframe was a blip in the storyline.
Shane, I believe, as a military policeman, was looking out for Maya, probably a bit suspicious of her, too.
The half-brother was a red herring. His presence also helped the family with their grief.
I see these issues as typical of producers trying to convert a novel to a series. I'm sure the boom holds all the answers!

tabbymctwat · 10/01/2024 10:35

Biggest problem for me - why didn't they start investigating Joe's death until after his funeral??? It felt as if they just suddenly realised being shot dead in a park was a bit unusual about a week after it happened!

Other most annoying issues:
Nanny should have been arrested for assault
Shane was pointless
Half sibling storyline was pointless - big song and dance made about the dad, but then it just went nowhere
MK very unconvincing as a helicopter pilot
Why didn't she go to the police once Joe killed her sister? Why kill him and then make it impossible to ever get proper justice without implicating herself?
If she was livestreaming the whole final showdown, why take a real gun? She could have taken the fake then gone to prison for murder rather than die, which is surely preferable rather than have your daughter potentially one day be able to watch your murder online??
Sami was the worst detective ever, and what were the pills for if he didn't start getting symptoms until after he took them?

There are many more but those are my main bugbears!!
