I've just finished watching this and enjoyed it a lot depsite some huge plot holes.

I don't understand something though and wondered if I'd missed something which would explain it. How did the nanny & her boyfriend (or how did Judith) know about the camera in the picture frame? Maya told the nanny about it AFTER seeing Joe on the video on the SD card. Was Eva somehow involved in the setting up of Maya? Maybe all this was explained, if so, I missed it!

I just finished this. I think I'm too tired to find any plot holes except she seems to have willingly taken herself from her daughter's life but then again I don't think she planned to kill Joe and then she probably would have gone to prison anyway so maybe she thought she should do the right thing and expose the Birketts.

Tortoise2go · 05/01/2024 18:30

I thought it also weird when Maya found Lily jumping up and down near the bushes outside saying Daddy Daddy . What was then point of that scene ?

bananamangoes · 05/01/2024 18:48

Why didn't she just keep quiet about everything, enjoy her life as a rich widow and keep a low profile forever!

🤣

LouMorris · 05/01/2024 22:57

I still don’t trust Shane. He’s a wrongun.

beststepforward · 05/01/2024 23:28

I loved this! Best thing I've watched in ages!!

Not sure how the nanny came to find out about the camera - perhaps mya's friend was paid off to present it to Mya..

I think Sean became suspicious of mya when she got him to test the bullet so he put the tracker on the car

Mumofteenandtween · 05/01/2024 23:59

I’ve not washed the TV programme (still on episode 1 but not convinced by a British Maya) but I have read the book many times.

In the book Isabella guessed about the photo frame because Maya doesn’t put photos up then suddenly had a pre loaded digital frame.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/01/2024 00:33

Just finished it. Also couldn't work out the photo frame nannycam as it came from her best pal.

Shane - didn't understand all his creepy behaviour, but also, how did he not already know that Maya hadn't had the order to attack the white car - surely there was an investigation afterwards?

I thought the half brother thing was just a plot device to give Claire someone to visit the school with.

Also, I suspect Maya had a substantial wardrobe, why was she in those black trousers and cream jumper all the time? Liked her coat though.

KMREM · 06/01/2024 01:45

I binged watched it last night and had these exact questions. Too many plot holes. Now I wanna read the book but don't have the time yet. Has anyone read it? Please tell me the answers if they're in the book. Lol

Oldtadger · 06/01/2024 10:45

There are quite a few issues with the plot and the dialogue.
Det Kierce didn't want his medical condition on his GP's records so h went to a pretty high end private hospital and yet he convinced Maya he was skint. Plus, top end hospitals will NOT treat/test you for anything without a GP referral. I needed a referral to have a Covid test when trying to travel during the lock down.

Then we see the same skint detective driving in a pretty slick Jag. This was after he was suspended so it would have been his own car. Skint!

The roof scene was a farce. No Police person would chase someone into such a position of danger and, certainly, would not follow someone putting both of them in such danger.

Then there was the "Amercanising" of the dialogue - "Get in the trunk!" There were others. Totally unnecessary.

Harlan Coben weaves very complex storylines but often fails to spot obvious errors or flaws. This is the last of his series I'll watch. Pretty rubbish all-in-all.

teddycoat · 06/01/2024 10:52

YES! I had the same question. How did she know about the nanny cam?

Why did Mya investigate her sister's connection with her husband if she already knew about it and that's why she killed him? SHE KNEW already and this:

Why didn't she just keep quiet about everything, enjoy her life as a rich widow and keep a low profile forever! she basically kicked the hornets nest knowing she would be implicated. Did she really think her daughter would be better off as an orphan just to get one over on her MIL?- so stupid.

Ozzyskye · 06/01/2024 10:54

@LouMorris when we finished I said to DH "nah, I still think Shane did it all"

LyndaLaHughes · 06/01/2024 14:04

I think there were a lot of deliberate red herrings. The Shane character for one- I think we were supposed to think there was something shifty about him. The same with the plot line about the half-brother. It was all designed to confuse and mislead.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 06/01/2024 15:06

And why did she have a secret gun? If she was a legal gun owner, what was the motivation for having a secret one prior to knowing her husband was a wrong 'un.

Did the Detective actually get the bribe money?

thenightsky · 06/01/2024 15:24

Yes, I was shouting 'boot, its a bloody boot' at the TV.

itstimeforme · 06/01/2024 16:53

I did think Mya was going to appear at the end, and that she had planted fake blood under her jumper or was wearing a bulletproof vest Blush

Tortoise2go · 06/01/2024 17:05

Also wondering

why Maya shot Joe as opposed to going to the police about him shooting Claire . The hidden gun surely could be linked to the crime ?
How did the guns( the dummy that Joe had and the one Maya used to shoot him) get back to her house?

Also can you buy pepper spray in the UK ? And is it legal to use ? Wouldn't that count as GBH ?

Think About It GIF by Identity

I think we both have an instinct 😉. Maybe we should help out the police in our spare time?

SunnyWinterDay · 06/01/2024 18:11

Wasn’t it because she saw Joe’s car that Maya had to drive as hers was impounded? I wonder if that was the first time she had seen it since he was killed and thought he was back home.

SunnyWinterDay · 06/01/2024 18:14

Isn’t that what lead to maya finding the trophies and the name of the school her sister had visited with the half brother? She stopped running after Caroline at this point.

SunnyWinterDay · 06/01/2024 18:18

Fun fact - Michelle Keegan’s brother is the Deputy Head Teacher at my child’s high school. She has done some drama/acting sessions there with the students. Brassic has been filmed just around the corner as well.

bearfood · 06/01/2024 18:28

My questions for anyone who has read the book are around the ending with Shane at the hospital with Lily...it seems like he is the father then he's sat in the bed with Lily and she says 'WE are calling her Maya' like it's their baby...there's no other man in the room that I can see apart from Kierce and Eddie.
Also, Eddie was 'involved' in her up bringing we are told, but who actually brought her up as the main caregiver? Shane?

liverpoolgal82 · 06/01/2024 18:41

Bearfood - in the hospital scene she had a partner sat next to her in the bed. Shane was also there on a chair by the bed.

No you can’t buy pepper spray, it’s illegal in UK. So she should have been cautioned or whatever for that. I checked it ages ago and definitely illegal here

No. The mixed-up sister got that wrong.
