the traitors supposedly meeting after hours must get exhausted!

martinisforeveryone · 06/01/2024 11:52

Yes, here's a quote

US host Alan Cumming may have given the secret away in an interview after the first season, as he spilled where he and the US contestants sleep, who film in the same castle.
“Spoiler alert: None of us stayed in the castle,” he revealed. “None of us. [The contestants] all stayed in the airport hotel in Inverness airport. How glamorous — you come to Scotland, and you stay in the Inverness airport hotel,” he told Daily Beast.
Although, it’s not clear if the UK contestants stay in the same accommodation, what we do know is that they all stay in individual lodging, with no contact with the outside world.

BBC game show The Traitors is filmed in stunning castle you can hire for events

New BBC show The Traitors has landed on our screens and fans immediately want to know what castle The Traitors is filmed in

There's a link upthread to Claudia also saying they're not in the castle. Each player is 'man-marked', she says - so each has their own minder with them at all times off-site - and no phones. Also, the castle has extra accommodation on the estate, advertising wedding rooms for 'up to 40 guests'.

What podcast is everyone listening to?

Think Ross's "So it turns out Diana is my mother." will be one of my favourite Traitor quotes

crabbyoldbat · 06/01/2024 12:18

I assume that Brian voted for Paul because he didn't have any suspicions/idea, and everyone loves Paul, so it's an obvious throwaway vote.

Motives for traitors voting for Ash - 1) they want to appear 'on side' with the faithful, drawing attention away from themselves, 2) she's arousing suspicion, they've heard this directly, and have mentioned it amongst themselves (though actually this doesn't matter, as she's not able to dob any of them in, and hasn't, as far as we know, particularly been pally with them. But they don't realise this), 3) sacrificial - a win cheering up the faithful, who may get distracted and less observant for a while.

I thought that was such an odd turn of phrase, like he had only just found out!

And it might be me seeing something that isn’t there but might be that they want the middle aged woman out of the group. Then you would have three men of similar age. Harry and Paul are very similar, but Harry hides it better.

Alan Cumming said the of the US one that they all stayed in the airport hotel in Inverness!

There are a few hotels in Inverness about 40 minutes away which might be used. Not sure if there is anywhere closer with enough rooms. I suspect why they arrive at breakfast in threes is because they are driven up in the cars. I imagine they also want a big enough hotel that they can put the players in rooms which are not next door to each other and the crew / drivers etc take the rooms in between to prevent them having any comms. They may not even know who is in rooms near them at the hotel if they are taken up one by one and banned from leaving the room unless crew are with them.

It would be a long drive for the traitors to be driven down to Inverness in a three with 2 faithfuls and then have to travel 40 minutes back to do the murder and then 40 mins home to bed. I imagine the traitors' tower is actually a room at the hotel they are using (or a local function room etc) made into a set as the tower. Then production just need to collect them from their rooms and take them there. No commuting time and maybe 10-20 mins to agree on a victim?

Be one of those quiet people who doesn’t get noticed.

yes, although that’s why the Brian sheep thing worked so brilliantly as he obviously tried that tactic, and it spectacularly backfired

It backfired because he got so wound up about it. It was him who drew attention to himself in the round table and created all the drama. If he'd been more like Mollie and just shrugged it off it no one would have not even been thought about him later.

No one has mentioned Mollie at all at the round table and she was quite happy to accept she was a sheep. She has admitted she is going to address this going forward but unlike Brian didn't feel the need to have a hissy fit in front of everyone. I think he's someone who just can't cope with any perceived criticism.

Like a lot of PPs I had never noticed Brian at all in the first two episodes. Obviously part of that is editing but also because he hasn't said anything worthwhile.

CaveMum · 06/01/2024 13:04

@AnImaginaryCat The “Uncloaked” companion show is what they are calling a “visual podcast” so you can either watch it on BBC2 and iPlayer or listen to it on BBC Sounds. The “listening” version has extra material that is not on the “watching” version so it’s worth doing both.

Something like that, I agree. We also have to remember it's not necessarily screened in a linear manner and little bits and pieces can be filmed any time and edited in where the programme makers want.

Shrine is the podcast I'm listening to @AnImaginaryCat I first got into them from Line of Duty, but they've branched out. I like their excitement and enthusiasm, although can see that some people might find it overwhelming.

I don’t like Paul an all. And Harry.
The way he was licking his lips when Claudia picked him….

Agree, Mollie played correctly, Brian, totally overreacted – but the fact, the producers picked them out as the two sheep was what was interesting, because it would’ve bought them to the others’ attention – people may start looking at Mollie in a different light now, especially with Brian gone( orI imagine going – obviously I don’t know)

I think it's OK to want to be a traitor - it's part of the game - but yeah, if you want to stay likeable to the audience, it doesn't help to be too obvious about how much you're loving it.

If you don't care about being likeable to the audience, then it doesn't matter! But I think most people playing would want viewers to root for them.

MsMcGonagall · 06/01/2024 17:36

They make it seem like they stay til midnight... but I remember reading about the first series, that it is earlier than that when they all leave. So the traitors have got plenty of time to double back and do their murdering discussions.

burnoutbabe · 06/01/2024 17:41

The murders meet Claudia outside the castle - we saw that?

So I reckon they just drive around the block and do filing right away. Plus other cast have to do all theit speak to camera shots that eve I t.

So I reckon off to "bed" very early to get all the rest done.

Edited

Paul and Miles are both 36, but Harry at 22 is a lot younger. I think his relative lack of maturity might catch up with him in his traitor role, but who knows?

CountTo10 · 06/01/2024 17:45

@periodiclabel It wasn't the producers choosing the sheep. It was the group themselves. They were all given questionnaires earlier with the questions about their fellow competitors. But you're right. I think it may start to concentrate the 'quiet ones' more. Also Paul brought it up at the round table that maybe they they should look at the quiet ones then Brian just lost it 😂

burnoutbabe · 06/01/2024 17:48

Remember the quiet English man who practically made it to final 5 in Australia without actually appearing on camera bar in voting sessions and background!

That was the ultimate "under the radar"

TitsInAbsentia · 06/01/2024 17:48

But if they thought about the responses to those questions/polls a bit more carefully, you'd only really need 2 or 3 votes to be most popular or most sheep like if the voting was scattered, it's not like everyone voted for the same person. Can be read in to far too deeply, and clearly that hit hard for Brian. I think for Paul too, he was loving the most popular vote.

TheFifthTellytubby · 06/01/2024 18:03

Just my take on the "secret relationships" aspect... it would be quite possible for e.g. Diane and Ross to work entirely as a team with full knowledge of each other's status, as they could easily have agreed on a covert signal beforehand to indicate if one of them is selected or later recruited as a traitor ("if you see me wearing my red and blue patterned scarf at breakfast..." etc.). Whether this makes it less fair on the others, I'm not sure. It certainly makes for an interesting dynamic once the secret gets out! Maybe they're planning on incorporating it into one of the challenges (e.g. guess which two competitors are related and how) - maybe they were going to do it last year if the magician hadn't blurted it out at breakfast!

CaramelMac · 06/01/2024 18:16

Brian absolutely folded, didn’t he? It was painful to watch, he couldn’t really express what he was trying to say and being called a sheep REALLY bothered him, surely in this situation being seen as a sheep is better than someone who tries to lead other people!?

periodiclabel · 06/01/2024 18:18

Yes, what I meant was it was the producers’ clever idea to have them do this vote – they probably thought it might concentrate the contestants’ mind a bit more as to, who was keeping too quiet but actually had the unintended effect of freaking poor Brian out! They can’t have seen quite how strongly he’d react

RedToothBrush · 06/01/2024 18:26

I think it safe to say that Brian probably isn't cut out for The Traitors and it won't be long before he goes home if he isn't banished already!

I think it was one of the best displays of shooting yourself in the foot I've seen ever on Reality TV. And I watch a fair amount of it!

It was pure TV gold to see him just melt. But I can't help but think that the casting team messed up there.

You see someone in a cloak who's probably a member of the production team and those scenes could have been filmed at anytime
